Starting at midnight on the 26th, Luceti and its inhabitants will find itself the focus of the Filial spirits, usually quiet and reclusive, now stepping out to deal with one of their own.

As promised, here is some additional information to help figure out how to play around with the spirits and interacting with similarly possessed people.

First off, each spirit has a certain time or place when they are at their most powerful. Consequently, characters possessed by them will enjoy these boosts and this in itself can be a deciding factor in what would otherwise be a stalemate. Here’s a quick run down:

Sona - She’s most powerful around lakes, rivers, and the ocean. Mostly this is concentrated at the southern lake.

Kipinn - He’s most powerful in high places, like mountain tops and the roofs of community buildings.

Faeren - She’s most powerful in the farmlands alongside things that grow.

Tsinku - He’s most powerful in the village itself, where technology thrives.

Eferin - He’s most powerful in the center of the forest where his heat may cause trees to burn. In fact, the upcoming forest fire may cause some trouble if his followers get too rowdy.

Hyt - It’s most powerful during the daytime under a bright sky.

Twila - It’s most powerful during the night time.

Nala- She has no domain and is generally welcome wherever she goes.

How possessed characters will deal with other possessed characters will depend on the interactions of the spirits themselves. A useful spreadsheet sums up these relationships. Those that have a friendly attitude to one another will generally allow ‘trespassers’ into their domain, but those they are not so friendly with may cause conflict.

Finally, to elaborate on Twila-possessed characters. Those with a natural affinity for darkness are likely to be possessed first. Once they have, they can try to recruit others less-compatible candidates to ‘join the cause’. Their goal is numbers. The more who are working with Twila, the better. Once they do, they’ll be inclined to act in their own self interest and if necessary, deal with others who try to get in their way. In the long term, the spirit Twila wants to stay this way, bonded to the Lucetians as hybrids, that way it cannot be imprisoned again. Think of it as pure survival instinct of an animal that’s spent way too long in a cage.

All isn’t lost. The other spirits may not be able to cage it again, but they won’t accept Twila reacting in this manner. Though it’s hard to tell what their beef with Twila is, they have an instinctive familiarity with the dark spirit and seem to act as its jail keepers.

They have the power to free people from Twila, but given their poor communication skills, figuring that out might just be a challenge. After all, the spirits can only communicate in shades of feeling and intentions, but not actually verbalize directions or marching orders. However, there will be a Malnosso post mid-event that will give everyone, possessed or otherwise, the info they need to turn things around.

[This particular Tsinku-ite is doing his daily exercises just outside his house to try and distract himself from the fact that his girlfriend is running around in a bikini almost 24/7, if Sheena's interested in a bit of friendly competition.]

[Interested? She'd be thrilled. Just seeing him go through the motions is enough to let her land (without hurting herself, she's getting better) on his roof and plop right down on the edge, chin in hands watching.]

That's the best you can do, huh?

[Edward glances sidelong at the voice, hands half-lowering for a moment, then he lifts them again, facing her properly.]

You think you can do better?

[corrinesbell]

Think? Please, I know I can do way better than that. I mean I guess it's sort of impressive, for power like yours.

[Pfft. Pfffffft. Them's fightin' words.]

Why not come down here, and I'll show you something new.

[corrinesbell]

Trust me, you're not gonna show me anything I haven't already seen. [Especially if they're talking lightning. Sheena is so damn familiar with it she could write the book about how it'll ruin your life.

And yet. She joins him without overbalancing and landing on her face.]

That a challenge?

You could say that.

[If it's just a friendly spar, he's not going to pull out all the stops right away, but he's not backing away from a challenge, either. Without further delay he rushes forward and lashes out with a punch, intent on watching how she responds. He doesn't know her abilities, after all, and it wouldn't do to get his ass handed to him by some strange woman.]

[corrinesbell]

[Sheena dodges back, turning with the punch and shifting the motion into a kick in return. Dodge and counter are a big part of her empty-handed style.]

[Edward shifts to block the hit with his right arm, letting the automail take the brunt of the impact. When they connect he makes a grab for her leg, trying to flip her.]

[corrinesbell]

[Go ahead! Flip her! She's busy realizing that her hit met with metal but she'll be able to spring out of the flip, awkwardly thanks to the wings, and land at a distance.]

What're you wearing, chainmail?

[He frowns at that, holding his ground, but briefly sliding his jacket sleeve up to reveal a part of the arm.]

It's called automail.

[Okay it actually is metal. She is almost sure she knew that beforehand.]

So if you get in a hit with that hand I'm...gonna be broken? Because it's metal, right?

[She has an idea, and thanks to Eferin she can't keep a straight face about it.]

[What a weird question to ask.]

Uh. Yeah, if you hit it hard enough.

[Weird questions just come up sometimes. Sheena doesn't appear to want to do anything with that information at present, but she'll work harder to avoid his metal hand.]

[It's a good and healthy spar, assuming both of them are in top shape, and eventually Edward jumps back from one last hit to catch a breather, hands still lifted in front of him in case she decides it isn't over. He's definitely winded, though; she's better than he thought she'd be.]

[corrinesbell]

[No, no, it's over. If a judge had to pick a winner it would probably be Ed, even - he had a lot of surprises. Sheena's leaning on her knees for a bit, without taking her eyes off of him.]

You're pretty good for a kid.

[automailed]

[He bristles at that immediately, fist lifting as if to challenge her again. You wanna go for round two!?]

I'm not a kid!

[corrinesbell]

[Whoa whoa whoa, no thanks, the lightning stuff is giving her mixed signals already. Sheena pulls a face.]

Okay, sorry! But I don't think I've had a spar like that in weeks.

[automailed]

[Hmm... okay, he's reasonably mollified. It was a pretty good spar.]

Yeah... you're not bad, yourself. How'd you learn to fight like that?

[corrinesbell]

My grandpa and the other village leaders taught me. What about you? [He's skilled but a ninja he is not.]

[automailed]

Partly self-taught, but my alchemy teacher taught me the basics of fighting, too.

[Ninja, eh. No wonder her style was vaguely familiar- it's that sneaky methodology he'd experienced fighting the Yao clan and May.]

[corrinesbell]

Alchemy teacher? That's like magic, right?

[automailed]

[He twitches visibly.]

It's not magic!! Why do people keep saying that!?

[corrinesbell]

You don't have to get all defensive about it! It's that stuff Al used to talk about, isn't it? Sheesh, I even watched the old you do it a couple-

[Well. That appears to have frozen her thoughts. Eferin hates frozen thoughts, and as a result Sheena looks from side to side like she's lost something.]

Did I forget about that?

[He lifts a brow at that. The "old" him... great, so she knew some other version of him that was here before. And Alphonse, too.

Which means she's been here for a long time.]

Hell if I know. You're right, though, probably. But it's not magic, it's science.
