Starting at midnight on the 26th, Luceti and its inhabitants will find itself the focus of the Filial spirits, usually quiet and reclusive, now stepping out to deal with one of their own.

As promised, here is some additional information to help figure out how to play around with the spirits and interacting with similarly possessed people.

First off, each spirit has a certain time or place when they are at their most powerful. Consequently, characters possessed by them will enjoy these boosts and this in itself can be a deciding factor in what would otherwise be a stalemate. Here’s a quick run down:

Sona - She’s most powerful around lakes, rivers, and the ocean. Mostly this is concentrated at the southern lake.

Kipinn - He’s most powerful in high places, like mountain tops and the roofs of community buildings.

Faeren - She’s most powerful in the farmlands alongside things that grow.

Tsinku - He’s most powerful in the village itself, where technology thrives.

Eferin - He’s most powerful in the center of the forest where his heat may cause trees to burn. In fact, the upcoming forest fire may cause some trouble if his followers get too rowdy.

Hyt - It’s most powerful during the daytime under a bright sky.

Twila - It’s most powerful during the night time.

Nala- She has no domain and is generally welcome wherever she goes.

How possessed characters will deal with other possessed characters will depend on the interactions of the spirits themselves. A useful spreadsheet sums up these relationships. Those that have a friendly attitude to one another will generally allow ‘trespassers’ into their domain, but those they are not so friendly with may cause conflict.

Finally, to elaborate on Twila-possessed characters. Those with a natural affinity for darkness are likely to be possessed first. Once they have, they can try to recruit others less-compatible candidates to ‘join the cause’. Their goal is numbers. The more who are working with Twila, the better. Once they do, they’ll be inclined to act in their own self interest and if necessary, deal with others who try to get in their way. In the long term, the spirit Twila wants to stay this way, bonded to the Lucetians as hybrids, that way it cannot be imprisoned again. Think of it as pure survival instinct of an animal that’s spent way too long in a cage.

All isn’t lost. The other spirits may not be able to cage it again, but they won’t accept Twila reacting in this manner. Though it’s hard to tell what their beef with Twila is, they have an instinctive familiarity with the dark spirit and seem to act as its jail keepers.

They have the power to free people from Twila, but given their poor communication skills, figuring that out might just be a challenge. After all, the spirits can only communicate in shades of feeling and intentions, but not actually verbalize directions or marching orders. However, there will be a Malnosso post mid-event that will give everyone, possessed or otherwise, the info they need to turn things around.

[ The science room of the library is a mess. So, next door, is the history room. And beyond that, so is the fiction room. Right now Twilight's tearing apart the magic section, but with no results. Really, the situation in the library is worse than when she first arrived, and had been picking up every book she could find to explore. At least then, she was putting some back as she moved on. ]

I'm trying, but I can't find anything! From all I can find, this sort of event is unprecedented!

[Robert begins to rearrange some of the scattered books in a rhythmic way, grouping them into strict clusters of three. As he does this, he picks over the books Twilight's dropped in the hopes of maybe discerning something himself, but there appears to be no parallel.]

No i-information... and your wings, they are... s-significantly larger... [Just like his own, though he basically doesn't have to say that.]

Are you... e-experiencing physical symptoms? I... felt pain at f-first, but... there is nothing now but a strange... other...

[ There's a soft humming in the air that alerts Twilight's ears, which swivel around until they find the source - Roger. Wow, he... sort of snuck up on her, didn't he? ]

Uh... I made a fountain explode earlier. And there was a twinge when my wings started growing. [ Her eyes flick up to his, which are pretty big - proportionately similar to Twilight's, but still bigger than hers. ]

[Robert's got a habit of being a bit quiet.]

... A fountain... explode? [Robert is thinking the literal sort of explosion, mind.] Mine are... not nearly so violent, but... I seem to be causing e-electrical disturbance. I confess, had I not nearly sh-shorted out my electric stovetop on utilization, I would... hardly believe that I was causing it, but p-preliminary experimental evidence suggests it is indeed me...

[Quieter:] I could never u-use this magic before, and now it comes so easily I h-hardly know it is happening.

[ Twilight approaches him cautiously. ] It's okay. This happened to me... sort of. You just have to want to take control, and you'll be able to. Magic is as much a force of nature as water, or electricity, or heat. It's just one that humans and ponies can affect, sometimes.

Relax. Can you do that for me?

[semper_cogitans]

[A force of nature... yes, that's how he's tentatively been addressing it in his thesis. It's just... magic isn't a force of his world's nature. How is it coming to him so easily? And what is this thing in his head?

Still, the strange feeling of wanting to... impress, of wanting to be someone worthy of respect to the little purple alicorn in front of him, takes over. Robert nods, lightly flexing his fingers, and clasps them together in front of his chest, trying to take a deep breath and walk himself mentally through the katas Leonardo taught him.

A few sparks jump off his fingertips as he kneads his hands together.]

[ Twilight nods, still approaching. ]

You're getting it. Now... touch my hoof, but don't shock me. [ She offers one forehoof to him. ] You can do this.

[semper_cogitans]

[He feels strangely confident for once. Maybe he can do this...

Robert puts that prodigious focus solely on Twilight's forehoof and of the powers flowing through him. For one brief moment, he feels a connection with something...

And he touches the alicorn's forehoof gently. There is nothing - no spark. He didn't shock her... yet, anyway.]

... I... c-controlled it...

[ Twilight grins at him. ] See? [ She can't help but notice his huge eyes. She shakes off the feeling and points at a chandelier above, currently switched off. ] Now try controlling it in little bits. Try turning on the chandelier, without hurting any of the books.

[ She readies her own magic just in case she needs to put up a wall of protection to keep the books from bursting into flames, but she's not gonna tell Robert that. ]

[Not that it would help make him any less anxious...

The man focuses on the chandelier with an almost frightening concentration, a laser-beam precision, and tries to will himself to do the implausible: affect the electrons in the chandelier at a distance.

Once again, that strange... presence makes itself known, and almost like he isn't doing it himself, he lifts one hand, tentatively extending the index finger like he's catching a snowflake on it.

The chandelier sputters once, and flickers on for a single brilliant moment.]

Ah - [And then Robert stops, genuinely surprised by what he just did to the point where he cuts off the power inside him. He can feel it pushing at him though, pushing him to experiment again, to try again because he just did it.]

[ She nods eagerly. ] You're getting it! It'll take practice. But the important thing is that you've got it under your control now, rather than the other way around. That was one of the first things I learned about magic.

[It hadn't occurred to Robert that other people ever had experiences where their magic was controlling them. This is new and exciting information.]

Ah... w-well, one cannot know exactly how l-long this will last... [And yet he finds himself honestly wanting it to last longer. If he could do something like this, what else can he do....?]

I have faith, Robert. You just need to keep what I told you in mind and you'll be causing electrical storms in no time. ... On purpose.
