Starting at midnight on the 26th, Luceti and its inhabitants will find itself the focus of the Filial spirits, usually quiet and reclusive, now stepping out to deal with one of their own.

As promised, here is some additional information to help figure out how to play around with the spirits and interacting with similarly possessed people.

First off, each spirit has a certain time or place when they are at their most powerful. Consequently, characters possessed by them will enjoy these boosts and this in itself can be a deciding factor in what would otherwise be a stalemate. Here’s a quick run down:

Sona - She’s most powerful around lakes, rivers, and the ocean. Mostly this is concentrated at the southern lake.

Kipinn - He’s most powerful in high places, like mountain tops and the roofs of community buildings.

Faeren - She’s most powerful in the farmlands alongside things that grow.

Tsinku - He’s most powerful in the village itself, where technology thrives.

Eferin - He’s most powerful in the center of the forest where his heat may cause trees to burn. In fact, the upcoming forest fire may cause some trouble if his followers get too rowdy.

Hyt - It’s most powerful during the daytime under a bright sky.

Twila - It’s most powerful during the night time.

Nala- She has no domain and is generally welcome wherever she goes.

How possessed characters will deal with other possessed characters will depend on the interactions of the spirits themselves. A useful spreadsheet sums up these relationships. Those that have a friendly attitude to one another will generally allow ‘trespassers’ into their domain, but those they are not so friendly with may cause conflict.

Finally, to elaborate on Twila-possessed characters. Those with a natural affinity for darkness are likely to be possessed first. Once they have, they can try to recruit others less-compatible candidates to ‘join the cause’. Their goal is numbers. The more who are working with Twila, the better. Once they do, they’ll be inclined to act in their own self interest and if necessary, deal with others who try to get in their way. In the long term, the spirit Twila wants to stay this way, bonded to the Lucetians as hybrids, that way it cannot be imprisoned again. Think of it as pure survival instinct of an animal that’s spent way too long in a cage.

All isn’t lost. The other spirits may not be able to cage it again, but they won’t accept Twila reacting in this manner. Though it’s hard to tell what their beef with Twila is, they have an instinctive familiarity with the dark spirit and seem to act as its jail keepers.

They have the power to free people from Twila, but given their poor communication skills, figuring that out might just be a challenge. After all, the spirits can only communicate in shades of feeling and intentions, but not actually verbalize directions or marching orders. However, there will be a Malnosso post mid-event that will give everyone, possessed or otherwise, the info they need to turn things around.

[ But why would you ever need to keep your guard up around ~~little old~~ ~~little young~~ Saten? ]

That's a really long time! You must know a lot.

[Oh, that causes Teddy to chuckle.]

More like not enough. The place I come from is completely different from Luceti. I'm still not used to a lot of it.

What's different about it? I don't remember anything before this place so I can't compare at all.

Think tall buildings, a lot more noises, constantly busy, hundreds of people walking everywhere like they need to be somewhere... It always feels like I leapt into Doc's time machine and can't figure out how to get back.

[ Saten seems to lose herself in thought for a few moments, turning that over in her head. A few seconds later, she shakes her head and gives a small laugh. ]

I can't even imagine it. It sounds so strange.

Compared to his place, I guess it is pretty strange. But that's home.

[He pauses, then gives Saten a sidelong glance.]

So you don't remember anything? Not even your world?

I don't think so. [ She smiles back at him. ] I didn't even realize I had a world. I still can't say I do for sure.

I don't even know what would be different. Maybe there would be different people? Or more darkness.

[ After all, since she likes the darkness, maybe the world she can't remember has a lot more of it. ]

[Teddy glances skyward, thinking about what he just heard. If she can't remember anything, maybe she... manifested here? But no, that's not right. He's sure she had a world before all this.]

That sounds about right, from what I know about you. Different people... more darkness. [And light, an opposer. But with Saten the way she is now, he's not sure what kind of reaction that answer would evoke from her.]

[ At worst, Twila would use it to turn Saten further on Hyt, so it's probably best that it's not mentioned. Even if telling it to just Saten herself wouldn't really do much. ]

Really? What else do you know?

[ If Twila had any inkling of Saten past, it would be urging this on full-throttle, but right now it's just Saten's own curiosity that has her asking. ]

[He lets out a little chuckle at that.] Not much, actually. You're always really mysterious with me. Sorry I can't tell you more.

[Teddy says with a slight raise of his shoulders, a bit sheepish and apologetic. He does with he knew more; he likes Saten and finds her very interesting. Maybe once this is all over.]

Oh. I see. So why is there so much light in this place?

Some worlds have a lot of dark, some have a lot of light, I guess. This one seems pretty equal.

[And now that they've arrived in front of one of the community buildings, #1 to be precise, Teddy speeds up his walk to head towards it.]

Actually, this is my stop.

[ Don't let him leave.

Saten hesitates for a fraction of a second, but that's as far as her questioning of Twila's influence goes. She, too, picks up her pace in order to try to keep up with him. ]

Already? But we were still talking.

[You need to leave.

He turns toward her to smile, though he still keeps walking backward to the community housing building.]

And I really want to keep talking, but I've got something to do here... Maybe later?

But it's not important right? You said earlier we could go eat. That would have taken much longer.

It's pretty important, actually... I was kind of planning on eating and walking anyway.

[He reaches the door, hand already pulling at the handle to open the door.]

So see you later, Saten?

[ Saten stops walking, and the black spreads out from her feet almost instantly. It doesn't even take a second for the ground around her to turn pitch black, the affected area spreading to a circle just wide enough to reach slightly past where Teddy is standing, centered around Saten.

She's not doing anything with it yet, and her expression doesn't change. But it's there to be a threat. ]

Why are you running away from me?

[Teddy looks down at the circle or darkness, smile fading, hand still on the door, but he doesn't move through it. Saten would catch him in an instant, he knows it.

The wings on his back grow fully with Nala's complete influence, but even so, much of himself still remains in control. He lets out a troubled sigh, then looks up at her again.]

Because you're my friend. And I don't want you doing anything you might regret later.

I know what you're trying to do, and I don't want it. All right?

[ Saten doesn't understand the frustration inside her. Twila's anger is twofold: Now that Nala has full control, it will be more difficult to get control of Teddy, and his words actually made Saten pause and question the spirit's influence.

But influence it still has, so Saten reacts to that frustration without knowing where she wants to direct it. ]

Why's that? You'd be happier this way! This is better.

[ Not realizing that the only reason she perceives herself as being happier is because she matches the spirit so closely. And, of course, Twila telling her she's happier. ]

And maybe it is for you. I still don't know what Twila is, but with that color, and you being a person of darkness? It makes sense.

[As if it wasn't obvious enough by the shadow beneath him and how cold Billy felt. Teddy lets go of the door, but he steps to the side, trying to get out of that dark circle.]

It wouldn't make me happy, Saten. And I don't want to fight with you about this.

You don't know that! [ She shouts it in anger, the turmoil inside her building up faster and faster. Her knee-jerk reaction to his movement is to keep him where he is, and without even really thinking about it, she forms shapes out of the darkness which reach halfway up Teddy's legs in an attempt to anchor him where he stands. ] You don't know--!

[ Mid-sentence, she reaches to form a weapon. And though both Saten and Twila possess similar powers, everything Saten has done up to this point has been with her own strength. Her own will. Her own influence.

So when she reaches for a weapon and Twila's power responds before hers, it catches her. It's probably not something the spirit had expected to matter, but with the two already starting to conflict, it just further drives the wedge of doubt into Saten's consciousness.

Fine. Just let him be, then. He doesn't matter anyway.

This was proving more trouble than it was worth, and Twila does not want to risk losing Saten so soon. With the spirit no longer urging her on, Saten lets the black shapes on Teddy's legs dissolve. For the moment, the darkness on the ground still remains. ]

Go.

[Teddy had felt adrenaline flare when he saw and felt the cold darkness spreading up his legs, and he finds himself unable to move. He grits his teeth and tries, again and again, to move his legs, then looks up at Saten, seeing her hand poised in the air as if to reach for a weapon -

Nala doesn't want to fight at all, yet the part of Teddy who's a hero, who's a fighter, wants to shift and get out of there. Better to run from a battle he knows he can't win, especially when this is a person he doesn't want to fight in the first place. But if he can't even get his legs to move...

Then the darkness falls away from his legs. He looks down in surprise, letting out a huff of a breath as the cold lingers in his legs before starting to warm. And when she tells him to go, he looks up at her again. She's letting him go...

A part of Teddy wants to stay and talk and gently encourage her to not let Twila take her completely. But he knows an opportunity when he sees it, knows when he's been given mercy. And so, he takes a couple of steps to the side, stumbles a little due to how freezing his legs still are, then grips the door before looking back at Saten.]

Thanks, Saten.

[And then, he pulls himself inside.]
