Possession Event

Who: People in Luceti
What: Spiritual possession
When: The 26th to the 1st
Where: Luceti!
Summary: Check out the previous mod post.
Rating: If it gets smutty, move it somewhere private.

Starting at midnight on the 26th, Luceti and its inhabitants will find itself the focus of the Filial spirits, usually quiet and reclusive, now stepping out to deal with one of their own.

As promised, here is some additional information to help figure out how to play around with the spirits and interacting with similarly possessed people.

First off, each spirit has a certain time or place when they are at their most powerful. Consequently, characters possessed by them will enjoy these boosts and this in itself can be a deciding factor in what would otherwise be a stalemate. Here’s a quick run down:

  • Sona - She’s most powerful around lakes, rivers, and the ocean. Mostly this is concentrated at the southern lake.
  • Kipinn - He’s most powerful in high places, like mountain tops and the roofs of community buildings.
  • Faeren - She’s most powerful in the farmlands alongside things that grow.
  • Tsinku - He’s most powerful in the village itself, where technology thrives.
  • Eferin - He’s most powerful in the center of the forest where his heat may cause trees to burn. In fact, the upcoming forest fire may cause some trouble if his followers get too rowdy.
  • Hyt - It’s most powerful during the daytime under a bright sky.
  • Twila - It’s most powerful during the night time.
  • Nala- She has no domain and is generally welcome wherever she goes.

How possessed characters will deal with other possessed characters will depend on the interactions of the spirits themselves. A useful spreadsheet sums up these relationships. Those that have a friendly attitude to one another will generally allow ‘trespassers’ into their domain, but those they are not so friendly with may cause conflict.

Finally, to elaborate on Twila-possessed characters. Those with a natural affinity for darkness are likely to be possessed first. Once they have, they can try to recruit others less-compatible candidates to ‘join the cause’. Their goal is numbers. The more who are working with Twila, the better. Once they do, they’ll be inclined to act in their own self interest and if necessary, deal with others who try to get in their way. In the long term, the spirit Twila wants to stay this way, bonded to the Lucetians as hybrids, that way it cannot be imprisoned again. Think of it as pure survival instinct of an animal that’s spent way too long in a cage.

All isn’t lost. The other spirits may not be able to cage it again, but they won’t accept Twila reacting in this manner. Though it’s hard to tell what their beef with Twila is, they have an instinctive familiarity with the dark spirit and seem to act as its jail keepers.

They have the power to free people from Twila, but given their poor communication skills, figuring that out might just be a challenge. After all, the spirits can only communicate in shades of feeling and intentions, but not actually verbalize directions or marching orders. However, there will be a Malnosso post mid-event that will give everyone, possessed or otherwise, the info they need to turn things around.

Helios frowns, "it-it's not right. N-Not all of them are bad just-just the one who's been imprisoned for a long time. I-I'm sure it doesn't means to do anyone harm otherwise it would have made us all fight each other already." Helios sounds worried and looks it too. He's seen Max like this before, but never this bad. It was worse than he thought. You could fix it you know. You could ease his pain and suffering...

A hand goes to his head as he rubs a temple and shakes away the thoughts. Helios looks mildly mortified at those words and how Max seems to think nothing of it. "You...you trapped them inside their own home?" It was Twila's fault, he knew that, but it still hurt to hear.

"Max you-you shouldn't have d-done that without their consent. I-I know you mean well but what if-what if a friend stopped by? What if I had tried to come in and the wards would have gone off." Would he even care at this point? A part of him understands and even accepts what Max has done. That part wants to congratulate him and shower him with praise over the fact, but no. No no no. It was wrong, terribly and absolutely wrong.

"Maybe the others aren't so rational," Max mutters, hands clenching into fists at his sides for a moment before he forces himself to relax. No, he can fix this, he has to fix it. "I just... just need the power to do it." Power offered, but wasn't that as bad as giving in?

There's a note of horror in Helios's voice, and it stings worse than any anger would and he shrinks back, hunching in and drawing shadows around himself without even thinking about it. He was supposed to understand, supposed to... to get it, but Helios had been so hurt in the past, maybe he just needed protecting too? "They're safe," he says, his voice cool. "Food, water. They're not going to get hurt. They're not going to get dragged into this and I won't let anyone else sneak in and try to change things."

The sway Twila has on Helios begins to strengthen and influence him even more so than normal. Max's words are right, "you might be right. Perhaps they're just-just waiting for us to drop our guard."

No. He didn't want to say what he was so obviously being forced to think. Nala was trying to fight against Twila and it was just making his head hurt. A dull headache coming on as he rubbed the bridge of his nose with a forefinger and thumb. He smiles a little walking closer to Max and putting a hand lightly on his forearm.

"I'm sure they'll appreciate it. They'll...understand what you meant to do, what you're trying to do, they can't be angry about that." And if they were Helios would defend him or hurt anyone who dared try to retaliate against Max. His eyes droop a little bit lower and go slightly dark as he smiles languidly.

"I'm sorry for doubting you. Perhaps we could find you another source of power. Then you could make good on your promise to rid everyone of these spirits. I." He pauses and Nala tries to see reason and tries to make Helios listen to it, but Twila is much more powerful at nighttime and it's no contest on who wins. He'll lean in to give Max a kiss and it's more electrifying than normal. He likes that thrill and feeling that courses through his veins but he pulls back to softly whisper to Max and Max alone.

"I'll help you in anyway possible. Just tell me what you wish me to do."

"Maybe. Take us out while we're not looking." It seemed so easy to believe it too. How many times when he'd been alone and untrained had a spirit tried to take advantage of him while he couldn't defend himself? Why should these be any different?

He watches warily when Helios approaches him, but smiles back when the man touches him. "I hope so," he says, chewing pensively on his lip. "I just want to keep them safe." From the spirits. From himself.

That look from Helios though... it's so different to what he's used to, but he likes it. Oh, he likes it, and when Helios kisses him there's a spark there, heat in it, and after a moment he kisses back, a slow smile spreading across his lips at those words. "I wouldn't mind it if you wanted to kiss me again. But... finding power. That's the tricky thing."
    folklorist: (I suppose that works)

"They would do something like that, wouldn't they? Something backhanded and sneaky." The bastards. Twila's impression of the Malnosso is rather deep seeded and dark, more dark than the other opinions it has on other things, so it's no surprise Helios speaks those words. And as he walks closer he watches carefully and more concerned than usual at Max worrying his lip. Funny, since that motion was usually reserved for him and his own way of dealing with things.

"They will be. You are a powerful mage, Max, and I know that you'll keep them safe and secure no matter what." He runs a hand through the other man's hair and down the nape of his neck as he kisses Max, slowly, heatedly, wanting and desiring more than normal. Feelings he should not have crop up because of Twila's need to consume, to gather and ensnare all around it.

He huffs a laugh pulling away slightly, running his thumb lightly over Max's lower lip, before he moves in to kiss Max once more. This one a bit more devouring and heated than the other. He'll lightly kiss his cheek before whispering between them, "there's more than one alternative to power. There's plenty of people who harbor power within them here. It just depends on what type you'd need. Emotional, physical, magical, blood, even lust can be used when applied correctly."

His voice goes a bit husky at that last word, his green eyes lingering somewhere lower than Max's chest. He does smirk though and pull away slightly. "So which do you prefer my dear?"

"Mmmm, locked away in the darkness..." Max murmured, a little pleased by the venom in Helios's voice, some dark satisfaction curling in him that is only partly the spirit's. Because there's part of him that desperately wants that acceptance, needs someone to believe in him, that he's not a monster. That he just wants to protect them.

"Thankyou," he says, giving a small smile and then shivering at the touch, Helios's fingers running through his hair, curling against the back of his neck as they kiss, a slow, hungry, lingering thing and for a moment he wants to pull away, startled by it because this- this isn't how Helios usually acts. But the heated whisper and the light touches banish that thought for the moment.

"An exorcism is will and ritual. Strength focused." He smirks a little. "But I know which sounds most fun."
    folklorist: (I suppose that works)

"Where no one would be able to hear them scream. I wonder how well they would take to similar acts that they have thrust upon us. Treat them like the monsters they are." The venom never dies down with those words, but only gets stronger, bolstered by Helios' own inner anger Twila has no problem channeling herself through him.

It would be contradictory for Helios to call Max a monster, for wasn't he one himself? A ticking time bomb with an angry vengeful god within him. He almost wants to run, pull away and just disappear until this is all over, but he doesn't because Twila's sway is powerful enough to bolster his confidence and ever present need for acceptance, acceptance that Max always gives him no matter what.

"No need to thank me, love, you know I would do anything for you." Helios smiles and laughs a little as he moves away just a bit more to get a better look at Max in the darkness.

"I do too. Do you want to have fun, or keep things strictly business is the real question." Helios will trail a cool finger along Max's jawline a soft and yet rather desiring look on his features.
