Possession Event

Who: People in Luceti
What: Spiritual possession
When: The 26th to the 1st
Where: Luceti!
Summary: Check out the previous mod post.
Rating: If it gets smutty, move it somewhere private.

Starting at midnight on the 26th, Luceti and its inhabitants will find itself the focus of the Filial spirits, usually quiet and reclusive, now stepping out to deal with one of their own.

As promised, here is some additional information to help figure out how to play around with the spirits and interacting with similarly possessed people.

First off, each spirit has a certain time or place when they are at their most powerful. Consequently, characters possessed by them will enjoy these boosts and this in itself can be a deciding factor in what would otherwise be a stalemate. Here’s a quick run down:

  • Sona - She’s most powerful around lakes, rivers, and the ocean. Mostly this is concentrated at the southern lake.
  • Kipinn - He’s most powerful in high places, like mountain tops and the roofs of community buildings.
  • Faeren - She’s most powerful in the farmlands alongside things that grow.
  • Tsinku - He’s most powerful in the village itself, where technology thrives.
  • Eferin - He’s most powerful in the center of the forest where his heat may cause trees to burn. In fact, the upcoming forest fire may cause some trouble if his followers get too rowdy.
  • Hyt - It’s most powerful during the daytime under a bright sky.
  • Twila - It’s most powerful during the night time.
  • Nala- She has no domain and is generally welcome wherever she goes.

How possessed characters will deal with other possessed characters will depend on the interactions of the spirits themselves. A useful spreadsheet sums up these relationships. Those that have a friendly attitude to one another will generally allow ‘trespassers’ into their domain, but those they are not so friendly with may cause conflict.

Finally, to elaborate on Twila-possessed characters. Those with a natural affinity for darkness are likely to be possessed first. Once they have, they can try to recruit others less-compatible candidates to ‘join the cause’. Their goal is numbers. The more who are working with Twila, the better. Once they do, they’ll be inclined to act in their own self interest and if necessary, deal with others who try to get in their way. In the long term, the spirit Twila wants to stay this way, bonded to the Lucetians as hybrids, that way it cannot be imprisoned again. Think of it as pure survival instinct of an animal that’s spent way too long in a cage.

All isn’t lost. The other spirits may not be able to cage it again, but they won’t accept Twila reacting in this manner. Though it’s hard to tell what their beef with Twila is, they have an instinctive familiarity with the dark spirit and seem to act as its jail keepers.

They have the power to free people from Twila, but given their poor communication skills, figuring that out might just be a challenge. After all, the spirits can only communicate in shades of feeling and intentions, but not actually verbalize directions or marching orders. However, there will be a Malnosso post mid-event that will give everyone, possessed or otherwise, the info they need to turn things around.

The stumbling and dizziness was by far a much safer, more palatable position for Jack to be in, so far as Eugene was concerned. Both feet on the ground, grinning and bright with exertion. He hated that Jack's method of having fun had him on edge, but he wasn't about to cause him dismay.

Not to mention, the larger wings were much more apparent here, up close and personal, and while they weren't intimidating, they were impressive. His own wings had changed and grown, been given an iridescent dark blue, grown to comparable size and he did wonder briefly if he could fly. Walking before flying, though and he gave Jack a challenging grin.

"Let's put you through your paces, flyboy. Fly over the lake, let's see how agile you can really be."

"And what's so special about a lake?" Jack teased, though there was a softer edge to it, a clear warmth when his eyes moved up and down Eugene. He still limped, but God, he was looking better every day. The amazement, twined up in admiration, caught him off guard for a powerful moment. When he gathered himself together a second later, he might have been a trifle pink - but he also leaned in for a quick kiss, which he imagined Eugene cared more about than his complexion.

Jack had that look on his face where he just... stared at him in a way that he couldn't describe the expression. It made his heart feel lighter than usual and he reached out to take Jack's hand while he approached-- and squeezed it for the kiss.

"Best way to get you all wet and exerted without having to worry about kids nearby." Not letting go of his hand he began to lead the way, still limping and wondering if he ought to take Vastra up on her offer for a cane. It could be fashionable, and he knew Vastra well enough to know she'd find one most suitable and functional for him.

"But the lake is also a great way I can test you to see just how agile you really are. Consider it your training with me."

"Ohoho. Training. And testing. Aren't we feeling authoritative today." Jack replied with a knowing grin, following Eugene at a leisurely pace. It just felt right, that if there was to be anything that could rein him in it should be Eugene, that the man had earned it more than anyone else he could think of. The lake wasn't too far away, and though Jack didn't rush, it might be obvious that the gentle breeze that moved through the trees was almost unfailingly at their backs.

"I'm always authoritative, you dolt," there was something carefree in the air around them, though-- a long way from the hasty and frantic travel that the open terrain of Luceti offered. And it was dawning on him, thankfully that even if the world wasn't ending, he'd still go just the same route as he had when the world was ending. Right by Jack's side in easy companionship.

"And if you perform well, maybe there'll be a good ending. Think of it like a game." he smirked at Jack as he stepped toward the shore of the lake, two fingertips tilting his chin toward him as they parted contact. "Alright, get airborne. Let's see what you've got."

Because seeing what Jack would and could do tended to excite him, make him proud to know him. Except when he's doing zombie stand up comedy on the air and making himself a total sap. Well, even then, it had been endearing for him, and likely painful for others. Standing at an appropriate distance to the water's edge he felt a confident cool feeling come over him, and a compulsion like a desire to move one's arm or finger or take a step to controlling the water. It was an oddly fluid feeling, but it felt as natural to him as breathing.

And without warning he tossed a softball sized sphere of water straight at Jack's face.

Jack hardly had to be bribed, and scarcely had the fingers slipped from his chin before he flapped into the air on an opportune gust that would leave Eugene's clothing fluttering and hair in his eyes, winging out over the lake and gaing altitude rapidly. It would have been punishingly hard work if not for the ability to call up wind, but he had precisely that ability, summoning thermals and updrafts with an intuitive ease.

He'd just dipped into a barrel roll when Eugene, far below, made a gesture he could not have even seen from his height. But suddenly there was wet in his face and he sputtered, losing concentration and flailing through a sudden drop before he caught himself and swooped up with a peevish shout.

"What the heck was that about?!"
z_jay: (Smug but cute so you love me)

"Score," Eugene pumped his arm and looked supremely smug, grinning at Jack, "Eugene, one: Jack, zero!" congratulations, Jack, you were given the H2O equivalent of a snowball to the face. There was maybe a little maliciousness in his actions but it was more mischief than ill intent.

Stepping back, only faltering slightly when he put weight on his newer leg without looking at it, he gazed up at Jack and put a hand to cover his eyes from the brightness of the sky. And here they were used to having a hard time going outside. "Stay sharp, Holden!" feeling the wind from Jack's summoning of it was exhilarating and he loved it, so hopefully the cool rush of water would help that, shifting with it as effortlessly as Eugene and Jack interacted.

He looked good with properly sized wings. But he wasn't about to make a connection to Jack being angelic-- he knew he could be anything but. The same could be said for himself and a few balls of water forming nearby.

"Just a minute! You never mentioned artillery!" Jack squawks, wheeling up and away from the lake and the blebs of water rising from its surface. He's grinning, though, putting a fresh burst of energy into the summoned wind and flapping through a corkscrew, tossing a blast of wind at Eugene on a close pass in an effort to knock him down.
