Starting at midnight on the 26th, Luceti and its inhabitants will find itself the focus of the Filial spirits, usually quiet and reclusive, now stepping out to deal with one of their own.

As promised, here is some additional information to help figure out how to play around with the spirits and interacting with similarly possessed people.

First off, each spirit has a certain time or place when they are at their most powerful. Consequently, characters possessed by them will enjoy these boosts and this in itself can be a deciding factor in what would otherwise be a stalemate. Here’s a quick run down:

Sona - She’s most powerful around lakes, rivers, and the ocean. Mostly this is concentrated at the southern lake.

Kipinn - He’s most powerful in high places, like mountain tops and the roofs of community buildings.

Faeren - She’s most powerful in the farmlands alongside things that grow.

Tsinku - He’s most powerful in the village itself, where technology thrives.

Eferin - He’s most powerful in the center of the forest where his heat may cause trees to burn. In fact, the upcoming forest fire may cause some trouble if his followers get too rowdy.

Hyt - It’s most powerful during the daytime under a bright sky.

Twila - It’s most powerful during the night time.

Nala- She has no domain and is generally welcome wherever she goes.

How possessed characters will deal with other possessed characters will depend on the interactions of the spirits themselves. A useful spreadsheet sums up these relationships. Those that have a friendly attitude to one another will generally allow ‘trespassers’ into their domain, but those they are not so friendly with may cause conflict.

Finally, to elaborate on Twila-possessed characters. Those with a natural affinity for darkness are likely to be possessed first. Once they have, they can try to recruit others less-compatible candidates to ‘join the cause’. Their goal is numbers. The more who are working with Twila, the better. Once they do, they’ll be inclined to act in their own self interest and if necessary, deal with others who try to get in their way. In the long term, the spirit Twila wants to stay this way, bonded to the Lucetians as hybrids, that way it cannot be imprisoned again. Think of it as pure survival instinct of an animal that’s spent way too long in a cage.

All isn’t lost. The other spirits may not be able to cage it again, but they won’t accept Twila reacting in this manner. Though it’s hard to tell what their beef with Twila is, they have an instinctive familiarity with the dark spirit and seem to act as its jail keepers.

They have the power to free people from Twila, but given their poor communication skills, figuring that out might just be a challenge. After all, the spirits can only communicate in shades of feeling and intentions, but not actually verbalize directions or marching orders. However, there will be a Malnosso post mid-event that will give everyone, possessed or otherwise, the info they need to turn things around.

[Ami takes to the air right behind Twilight, and climbs through the air to meet her. It feels a little like stories about angels, or something equally unbelievable and incredible, and she can't help loving the feeling of freedom.]

[ Twilight tries a couple of loops, to see how Ami will do. She giggles when she looks back and sees how Ami's flying. ]

You look a little awkward. I don't think humans are built for flying, exactly. There's something else going on here.

[She'd thought she was doing fairly well, with the controlled arc and graceful turns, but the criticism makes her forget that entirely as color floods into her face.

It must still look foolish to someone used to flying, instead of someone who's forgotten it in a distant, hazy past.]

Maybe we should land.

Oh no! [ Twilight flies up to Ami and takes her hand. ] I didn't mean you were the problem! I'm just noticing that the physics probably aren't working the way they should, so there may be magic at work here. I'm always interested in the science of things! You know that.

Please stay! I think you've been really happy while flying and I don't want to ruin that. I mean, even if you're not physically built for it, maybe it's something you were meant to do.

[Ami waves off the worry with a smile.] It's alright! We've been up here awhile, and I'm just getting a little tired. Besides, I want to try more later.

[This is mostly said for Twilight's sake, though she would like to try flying again sometime.]

Also, I'd like to study this some more. I don't think we understand all the implications yet. There could be a lot of things happening that we aren't thinking about while we're distracted by flying itself.

There might be. There's advanced elemental control, for example. [ Twilight comes with Ami in for a landing at the lakeshore where she was before. ] I don't know whether you've encountered this or not, but everypony with wings, myself included, seems like they have more magical power than before. [ Twilight concentrates, and in the middle of the lake an enormous wave rises up - cascading down towards the two of them, and coming up just short of splashing their feet and hooves respectively. ]

I thought I noticed it felt a little different, but I wasn't sure what might happen if I tried to test any of it.

[fourthgenerationprincess]

I made a fountain explode. [ She grins. ] You can't get much worse than that. Come on! It'll be fun. Maybe you can move the water, like me?

[It would actually be more suspicious to deny that right now, and she can excuse it by the spirits, so Ami nods.]

I think... maybe a little bit. Like if I had talked with Sona all this time.

[fourthgenerationprincess]

[ Twilight is idly playing with the tide until Ami mentions a name that sounds familiar, like she heard it in a half-forgotten dream. ] Who's Sona?

[geniustheveil]

Sona is a water spirit that seems to be native to Luceti. Some of the people here have learned to control water a little through that.

[fourthgenerationprincess]

... One of the spirits, huh?

Ami, tell me, what other spirits are there? A fire spirit, maybe? A shadow spirit?

I can help you look up more information about them in the guide and welcome books, if you'd like. The fire spirit is called Eferin, however.

Thanks. That would be useful.

... Vegeta set his house on fire earlier. What if the spirits are what's causing all of us to be able to do these things?

They probably are. I wonder if it's because of how we've all used them up until now. By drawing on their power so much, it may have created a situation we didn't expect.

[This had certainly happened in her world, where neither of the greatest powers had been reliable in the end.]

[fourthgenerationprincess]

But they're sentient, right? They're not just a magical force. So maybe there's something they're trying to tell us.

[ She stares out at the lake. ] It's really calm here. More so than I would have thought of before. I keep thinking I heard something in the distance, but nopony's there. Maybe Sona's trying to get my attention. To tell us something.

I've heard Sona is kind, and often comes when people look and listen.

[Which is her way of saying maybe it is indeed Sona that Twilight is sensing. She'd like to be encouraging, after all, and- maybe it is.]

In that case, I should probably stay here and wait for a while. You're welcome to join me.

[ She sits again, still staring across the lake. As if she expects something to rise from it. ]

[Ami nods wordlessly, and seats herself by Twilight to wait. She says nothing to intrude.

While she's never gone out of her way to learn from Sona, she definitely feels their kindred nature. Sona is one of the very few beings she's ever known who can understand that complete intrinsic tie to the Water.]

[ Twilight feels completely at peace - with the water, with nature, by her friend. The whispers at the back of her mind grow more and more prevalent, and she hesitantly lets them in... and a presence arrives, as if there is someone sitting next to her and Ami. She gasps. ]

I think I feel something...

[geniustheveil]

[Ami's mouth curves into a gentle smile. Sona being near is... Well, it's like the Water being near, to her. It's a presence she knows very well, deep inside her like a current all of its own, and Sona is so similar to that sense.

It feels safe.]

You might be starting to feel it.

[fourthgenerationprincess]

I think I am. [ She turns her mind slowly, cautiously, to this presence - which seems so powerful, and so gentle - almost like it reminds her of home. ]

Ami, do you... usually ask it things? Or does Sona tell you? ...

[geniustheveil]

[But Ami shakes her head.]

I don't know Sona well. Not until just now.

[And this is true. The familiarity and kinship she feels is the water, not actually knowing each other.]

[fourthgenerationprincess]

Okay...

[ She attempts to close out everything in her mind except the presence. Now that she's focused on it, it seems to have a deep, undulating beat, much like an ocean tide. She asks it a wordless question, and in return feels a sudden fire in her chest like she's never felt before with magic.

The water at their feet, undulating slowly, grows choppier. A wave crashes on the shore, and another one begins to form. Twilight keeps her eyes closed through it all. ]

Amazing! [Ami's voice is soft as she has the advantage of seeing the full effect of Twilight's efforts. She'd already known Twilight was talented in magic, but she was happy to share in this moment.]
