Starting at midnight on the 26th, Luceti and its inhabitants will find itself the focus of the Filial spirits, usually quiet and reclusive, now stepping out to deal with one of their own.

As promised, here is some additional information to help figure out how to play around with the spirits and interacting with similarly possessed people.

First off, each spirit has a certain time or place when they are at their most powerful. Consequently, characters possessed by them will enjoy these boosts and this in itself can be a deciding factor in what would otherwise be a stalemate. Here’s a quick run down:

Sona - She’s most powerful around lakes, rivers, and the ocean. Mostly this is concentrated at the southern lake.

Kipinn - He’s most powerful in high places, like mountain tops and the roofs of community buildings.

Faeren - She’s most powerful in the farmlands alongside things that grow.

Tsinku - He’s most powerful in the village itself, where technology thrives.

Eferin - He’s most powerful in the center of the forest where his heat may cause trees to burn. In fact, the upcoming forest fire may cause some trouble if his followers get too rowdy.

Hyt - It’s most powerful during the daytime under a bright sky.

Twila - It’s most powerful during the night time.

Nala- She has no domain and is generally welcome wherever she goes.

How possessed characters will deal with other possessed characters will depend on the interactions of the spirits themselves. A useful spreadsheet sums up these relationships. Those that have a friendly attitude to one another will generally allow ‘trespassers’ into their domain, but those they are not so friendly with may cause conflict.

Finally, to elaborate on Twila-possessed characters. Those with a natural affinity for darkness are likely to be possessed first. Once they have, they can try to recruit others less-compatible candidates to ‘join the cause’. Their goal is numbers. The more who are working with Twila, the better. Once they do, they’ll be inclined to act in their own self interest and if necessary, deal with others who try to get in their way. In the long term, the spirit Twila wants to stay this way, bonded to the Lucetians as hybrids, that way it cannot be imprisoned again. Think of it as pure survival instinct of an animal that’s spent way too long in a cage.

All isn’t lost. The other spirits may not be able to cage it again, but they won’t accept Twila reacting in this manner. Though it’s hard to tell what their beef with Twila is, they have an instinctive familiarity with the dark spirit and seem to act as its jail keepers.

They have the power to free people from Twila, but given their poor communication skills, figuring that out might just be a challenge. After all, the spirits can only communicate in shades of feeling and intentions, but not actually verbalize directions or marching orders. However, there will be a Malnosso post mid-event that will give everyone, possessed or otherwise, the info they need to turn things around.

I didn't think I'd scare you that bad. [The feathers of the emerald green wings ruffle slightly in agitation, betraying the tiny bit of disappointment he's feeling at the failure. He'd thought it would be amusing, not upsetting.]

Looks like you managed to avoid getting affected, huh?

[He gingerly climbs back to his feet, brows knitting together as he tries dusting at his clothes. He's a little too wary at the moment to really register Fayt's disappointment.]

...Yeah. It looks like the majority of people were changed. Possessed. [Another glance at Fayt's new wings.]

Yeah, that's how it seems. It's pretty freaky at first, but it's not as bad as it could be.

[He pauses before making a face.] Kind of a pain in some ways, though.

[Getting dressed is a chore and a half.]

[fellpool]

How ... is it not as bad as it could be? [He manages to keep his voice from rising, rubbing at his forehead worriedly.]

Even if we're being possessed, we've still got control. That's a good thing, right? [Hey, it could always be worse.]

[fellpool]

[He's going to look skeptical over here.]

Do you normally dive-bomb people to greet them?

[etherealblast]

It seemed like a good idea at the time?

[Hey, he said control, not a complete lack of influence.]

[fellpool]

[He once again eyes Fayt's wings, uneasily scratching at one ear.]

I guess that makes sense depending on ... who is with you.

[etherealblast]

The wind spirit. [Automatically. He'd figured that out already, even if he hadn't made contact with any of the spirits yet. The ability to create gusts of wind with a thought kind of tipped him off.] Don't suppose that means anything?

[fellpool]

Kipinn. [As soon as the description is given, he knows what name to give; even if he had not spent a good amount of time learning how to contact the spirits, he had sat through magic classes enough to know their names.]

...Yeah, I guess that makes sense. He's ... kinda childish.

[etherealblast]

[Childish?

Even with the subtle effect of the spirit, Fayt is starting to realize maybe that's the case here.] Geez...

At least they don't seem that bad. Just playful. It's kind of infectious, honestly.

[fellpool]

[He shakes his head slowly.] Unless you're just talking about Kipinn, they spirits aren't all, uh, playful. Sona's a little cold, Eferin's stubborn, Faeren and Hyt are shy... I can only imagine how they're affecting people around the village.

[etherealblast]

So they all have completely different personalities. [Made sense.]

I suppose depending on which one is possessing someone, their personality might be affected different ways. [It wasn't controlling him, though.... if anything, it was more like a gentle influence.]

[fellpool]

...Well. Last time something like this happened, the forest ended up on fire. So... [He trails off, like it should be obvious why he's wary of everything going on.]

[etherealblast]

The forest ended up on fire? Did someone lose control? [He looks mildly alarmed by that. He hadn't had too much difficulty getting a hang of the wind, but....]

[fellpool]

I think they thought it would be a great display, and Eferin enhanced that into far too much action. [He sighs.] What I'm trying to say is that, the last time this happened, things didn't go very well at all.

[etherealblast]

....I think I'm starting to get that. [Well this has officially gotten a lot more awkward than it was.]

[fellpool]

Not enough people seem to be aware this can be a really bad thing. I haven't seen any word from the Malnosso, which can't be good, either. They could be assessing their options with this having happened again.

[etherealblast]

And what sort of options would those be, you think?

[fellpool]

Considering the last time this happened, the Malnosso ended up ordering for the affected people's deaths... I think it's safe to say they won't be pleasant options, whatever they are.

[etherealblast]

They're going to try to kill us?

[There's a wary sort of tone in his voice. He hadn't thought they'd take that sort of action... shouldn't everyone be worried, if that was the case?

Had this been so long ago so few people even remembered?] Shouldn't people who remember be making plans for that?

[fellpool]

Probably. But if you're affected, and a good portion of the populace is affected, it's likely the people who remember might be affected.

...Not that I know of any of the spirits being so callous that they'd make people forget that this whole situation is potentially dangerous.

[etherealblast]

Maybe not forget, but it might not be at the forefront of their minds. [He frowns. He was acting more rash than he usually would.]

[fellpool]

Very likely. [He sighs loudly, clearly a little agitated by everything going on.]

Anyway, now you know. I'm ... going to be keeping an eye out on the journals, so hopefully no announcements will get past me, if the Malnosso decide to communicate with us over this situation.
