Starting at midnight on the 26th, Luceti and its inhabitants will find itself the focus of the Filial spirits, usually quiet and reclusive, now stepping out to deal with one of their own.

As promised, here is some additional information to help figure out how to play around with the spirits and interacting with similarly possessed people.

First off, each spirit has a certain time or place when they are at their most powerful. Consequently, characters possessed by them will enjoy these boosts and this in itself can be a deciding factor in what would otherwise be a stalemate. Here’s a quick run down:

Sona - She’s most powerful around lakes, rivers, and the ocean. Mostly this is concentrated at the southern lake.

Kipinn - He’s most powerful in high places, like mountain tops and the roofs of community buildings.

Faeren - She’s most powerful in the farmlands alongside things that grow.

Tsinku - He’s most powerful in the village itself, where technology thrives.

Eferin - He’s most powerful in the center of the forest where his heat may cause trees to burn. In fact, the upcoming forest fire may cause some trouble if his followers get too rowdy.

Hyt - It’s most powerful during the daytime under a bright sky.

Twila - It’s most powerful during the night time.

Nala- She has no domain and is generally welcome wherever she goes.

How possessed characters will deal with other possessed characters will depend on the interactions of the spirits themselves. A useful spreadsheet sums up these relationships. Those that have a friendly attitude to one another will generally allow ‘trespassers’ into their domain, but those they are not so friendly with may cause conflict.

Finally, to elaborate on Twila-possessed characters. Those with a natural affinity for darkness are likely to be possessed first. Once they have, they can try to recruit others less-compatible candidates to ‘join the cause’. Their goal is numbers. The more who are working with Twila, the better. Once they do, they’ll be inclined to act in their own self interest and if necessary, deal with others who try to get in their way. In the long term, the spirit Twila wants to stay this way, bonded to the Lucetians as hybrids, that way it cannot be imprisoned again. Think of it as pure survival instinct of an animal that’s spent way too long in a cage.

All isn’t lost. The other spirits may not be able to cage it again, but they won’t accept Twila reacting in this manner. Though it’s hard to tell what their beef with Twila is, they have an instinctive familiarity with the dark spirit and seem to act as its jail keepers.

They have the power to free people from Twila, but given their poor communication skills, figuring that out might just be a challenge. After all, the spirits can only communicate in shades of feeling and intentions, but not actually verbalize directions or marching orders. However, there will be a Malnosso post mid-event that will give everyone, possessed or otherwise, the info they need to turn things around.

What does it look like? I merely grabbed the door of an open cupboard, which by the way someone was so disorderly to leave open, and it caught fire. You're lucky I was able to put the fire out before the rest of the house burned down! [Man, he went through hell on earth to take care of that! Pun intended.]

Anyway, nice try, but that's not the case. We're possessed Bulla, so this is no experiment.

Possessed?

[Don't mind the horrified look on her face. Someone's having Bebi flashbacks and it scares her more than she'd care to admit. Then she takes a moment to concentrate. This presence doesn't feel so bad. It's not trying to take her over or turn her against anyone she cares about. It's just there.

When she speaks again, her voice is quiet.]

...at least it's not like before.

Yes, it's the spirits who reside here- and ours, as I've been informed, is named Eferin. [However Vegeta's unsure about where he ends and the spirit begins.] So I hope you like campfires because you're about to create quite a few of them unless you can get a handle on it.

[He falls silent though at her last statement. Yeah, that's bad memories, or even sort of a lack thereof. He doesn't remember much from that escapade.]

No, it's not. Sometimes...sometimes I can feel its motives, feelings or desires become my own but past that it doesn't seem to be trying to actively control us. I don't know about you but I don't see much of a difference between myself and that thing inside me.

I guess that's why I thought this happened because of a Malnosso experiment. I don't really feel that much different.

[Although in retrospect, she realizes she's probably a little more hot headed and temperamental than normal.]

I wonder why Eferin decided to pick us...

I don't know but I don't like the idea of yet another thing in my head giving me orders. Even now I can feel my own temper rising faster than it normally does. But it's more than that, it's that blasted spirit fusing itself with my mind. [And he rubs his forehead, as if that's really going to help the situation any.]

Listen, Bulla, something happened last night and I really thought it was just a horrid dream, but after this morning, I realize that it was very real. Now don't go around telling everyone this, got it?

Okay. I won't talk about it. I'll look for Zuko or Korra to teach me about firebending so I won't have any more fire accidents, but I won't say anything about Eferin or anything else.

[At least she knows people who can help.]

I didn't know you were associated with that bothersome girl. [Whatever, he's got better things to do than worrying about Bulla speaking with Korra.] It's not Eferin I'm worried about you keeping from others. Last night I was attacked by some other spirit that lives here. And I've got a good feeling that's why some other spirit took the two of us. To prevent that.

As much as I hate to admit it I'd be sporting a pair of black wings today instead if I hadn't already been possessed. [He wonders if that should be kept a secret, but it seems a little insane.]

Attacked?

[Dumb idea, creepy spirit. Bulla's got a lot of faith in her father's power, but she has to admit that even he would be vulnerable while he was asleep, and fighting off a possession is different than fighting off a tangible opponent.]

So as long as Eferin is here, that other creepy spirit can't take us over?

Yes, it seems it's using other people here as a central hub to try to take as many as it can under its influence. Why, I couldn't say. But Eferin didn't seem to like the idea of it invading my body. But it's not a safeguard Bulla, it took a great deal of mental resistance to fight off whatever it was that was attacking me. I just had a little help. [Not proud of that but she really needs to know what happened, because he doesn't want it to happen to her too.]

The people with black wings should be avoided at all costs. And what happened to me will not be discussed with anyone else. It's not their business except to know that there's something around here that has plans for us.

In the meantime you need to get a grip on that new fire power of yours.

Okay. Well, at least the wings will make it pretty obvious who's possessed by the creepy spirit, and which ones are probably all right to be around.

[They were pretty hard to miss at their current size. She seriously doubts anything short of a trenchcoat could effectively conceal wings this big.]

...don't you have to get a grip on it, too? I mean, we both had accidents with fire this morning.

I've already had a little instruction this morning. Though I figured most of it out by myself. [Like controlling that temper of his, that always helps. Though probably failed to mention- he's got a good number of visible burn marks across his body so he had one hell of a time this morning with it.

...No pun intended.]

It's similar to using ki, but not quite- you'll see what I mean. But that means you might actually have to train for once. In the meantime...I need to figure out how I'm going to be explaining this to your mother. [Yep, that's going to be fun. Not.]

[It's hard to stifle her inner glee that her father has no idea what she's been up to lately - that her surprise will actually be a surprise and not one where he humours her because she's his daughter.]

I think I'll go and find either Korra or Zuko for that. They can both firebend, so if anyone in Luceti can explain how to control fire well, it would probably be either of them.
