Starting at midnight on the 26th, Luceti and its inhabitants will find itself the focus of the Filial spirits, usually quiet and reclusive, now stepping out to deal with one of their own.

As promised, here is some additional information to help figure out how to play around with the spirits and interacting with similarly possessed people.

First off, each spirit has a certain time or place when they are at their most powerful. Consequently, characters possessed by them will enjoy these boosts and this in itself can be a deciding factor in what would otherwise be a stalemate. Here’s a quick run down:

Sona - She’s most powerful around lakes, rivers, and the ocean. Mostly this is concentrated at the southern lake.

Kipinn - He’s most powerful in high places, like mountain tops and the roofs of community buildings.

Faeren - She’s most powerful in the farmlands alongside things that grow.

Tsinku - He’s most powerful in the village itself, where technology thrives.

Eferin - He’s most powerful in the center of the forest where his heat may cause trees to burn. In fact, the upcoming forest fire may cause some trouble if his followers get too rowdy.

Hyt - It’s most powerful during the daytime under a bright sky.

Twila - It’s most powerful during the night time.

Nala- She has no domain and is generally welcome wherever she goes.

How possessed characters will deal with other possessed characters will depend on the interactions of the spirits themselves. A useful spreadsheet sums up these relationships. Those that have a friendly attitude to one another will generally allow ‘trespassers’ into their domain, but those they are not so friendly with may cause conflict.

Finally, to elaborate on Twila-possessed characters. Those with a natural affinity for darkness are likely to be possessed first. Once they have, they can try to recruit others less-compatible candidates to ‘join the cause’. Their goal is numbers. The more who are working with Twila, the better. Once they do, they’ll be inclined to act in their own self interest and if necessary, deal with others who try to get in their way. In the long term, the spirit Twila wants to stay this way, bonded to the Lucetians as hybrids, that way it cannot be imprisoned again. Think of it as pure survival instinct of an animal that’s spent way too long in a cage.

All isn’t lost. The other spirits may not be able to cage it again, but they won’t accept Twila reacting in this manner. Though it’s hard to tell what their beef with Twila is, they have an instinctive familiarity with the dark spirit and seem to act as its jail keepers.

They have the power to free people from Twila, but given their poor communication skills, figuring that out might just be a challenge. After all, the spirits can only communicate in shades of feeling and intentions, but not actually verbalize directions or marching orders. However, there will be a Malnosso post mid-event that will give everyone, possessed or otherwise, the info they need to turn things around.

She hopped the last few rungs, landing beside him with a gentle thud. And, perhaps, a sharp exhalation of air -- as if she hadn't quite anticipated the ground being so hard beneath her feet. Damn, but she wondered just how soft she'd gotten...?

Her flashlight joined his after a moment, the beams meeting in the distance. "Something else they casually refer to as magic, I presume?"

"Shifting, Claire. It's all about Shifting. I'm starting to think it's just a word they made up to explain things away."

He glanced over his shoulder to make sure she was paying attention before pressing forward, following the same path he'd followed with Raine weeks earlier.

"May as well be magic, for how vague the concept is."

His glance was met with a small nod -- appreciation, perhaps, for his attempt to seek confirmation. Or else a scrap of assurance that she wouldn't wander from their pack of two. Splitting up was never an option of which she was much fond.

[selfnamed]

"Anyway, it's all ocean out there. It's a shame. There were some ruins on the far side of the desert. Who knows what we could have found there."

In spite of the fact there was little reason to suspect enemies, Nathan's progress through the tunnels was deliberate and careful, as if expecting a sudden ambush at any moment. Largely because he'd gone through tunnels like these before and that almost always seemed to happen.

"You're really into all that, aren't you?"

Her tone was amused, not mocking. And her pace was set to his; after all, he had the gun.

He stopped and turned around.

Defensively he asked, "All what?"

[bowgunner]

The swinging beams of light, in tandem with the existing low lighting, caught on her half-smile. "Ruins. Old art. You said you worked in the business, but it sounds like it's more than just professional."

[selfnamed]

He shrugged before turning back around. "Everybody needs their hobbies, Claire. It could be worse. I could like math instead."

[bowgunner]

Her laughter was low and rich. Unguarded, really, now that she had semi-darkness to cloak her and his gaze once again cast ahead.

"I didn't say it was a bad thing, Nate."

[selfnamed]

No, generally speaking, he had yet to run into a woman who would think less of him for being such a history buff. Especially when it would become obvious that he spent half his time deep in the stuff in exotic and dangerous places. But it was those very same things that made it difficult to... well. He laughed sardonically before carrying on.

"It's a lot of use here. I could tell you the line of succession of the Spanish monarchy, but it's not a lot of good here. It's all new. And old. And without anything to go off of."

[bowgunner]

"Oh, I don't know. If they have a trivia night, I know whose team I'm joining."

[selfnamed]

Sarcastically: "Ha. That's funny."

[bowgunner]

"I'm a funny gal. Besides, I'm not sure I'm fit to make fun of your obsolescence. Not when you consider how toothless one NGO member is on her own."

[selfnamed]

"Speaking of toothless, since when did you know so much about guns. Your brother teach you that, too?"

[bowgunner]

"He certainly did."

At least, Chris had taught her the basics. She had developed all additional skills after the Raccoon City and Rockfort Island incidents on her own, in the seven years since such skills had proven themselves immeasurably useful. "Chris has a singularly pragmatic taste for gifts. When most girls were getting the keys to their first new-to-you car, I got a hand-me-down pistol."

[selfnamed]

Nate shook his head. "Well, I gotta give him credit. He's thorough."

[bowgunner]

"Quite. You should see me with a shotgun."

Oh, boy, Redfield. You certainly did just say what you just said.

[selfnamed]

"That is definitely a new one. But I should warn you, I'm an old fashioned romantic. Never bring a shotgun on a first date. Mentioning one is generally a bad idea, too."

[bowgunner]

"Is that what this is? Because I was pretty certain I was signing up for a tour," she responded with a light and airy tone that could never be mistaken for anything but casual joking. Light flirtation, at worst. And even as it happened, she kicked herself for descending down such an unlikely road when she was in the middle of descending down another more likely and more literal road.

So, clearing her throat: "What about you? I'm guessing it might just be one coincidence too many to think you also had a helpful older sibling to show you your way around a handgun."

[selfnamed]

"Sully." Nate said the name as if it explained everything. But then, anyone who knew Victor Sullivan, that one word usually explained a whole lot.

"He's sort of my mentor, if you want to call him that. I usually don't. But he's taught me more than a few things."

[bowgunner]

"Was he the one who taught you about the Spanish succession, too?"

[selfnamed]

Nate laughed at that, loud and true. "Sully? No no, that was all me. He's a lot of things, but he's no historian."

[bowgunner]

"But he does work with you...?"

Her voice was light once again as she coolly pumped him for information.

[selfnamed]

"Sometimes, sure." He'd say more, but he was dangerously close to saying more than he cared to. "There's a laptop room further ahead. Sometimes they post their big secrets on it. They get transmitted to our journals, but apparently the Malnosso can't see them."

[bowgunner]

"And they're convinced of that?"

Scientists. Claire so rarely underestimated them.
