The Cultural Fair!

Who: Everyone's invited!
What: The Cultural Fair
When: June 5th- 12th - admittedly dates are sort of nebulous - set up could have begun as early as the 5th, but given the event recently, more days could have been taken to do it and for people to involve themselves, so it probably "officially" starts a little later (by the 8th at the very least, though work can go on throughout it) - feel free to use your judgement/have fun!
Where: All around the town square!
Summary: Here.
Rating: ... who knows?!

Notes: Booths can be labeled as separate comments! Just put [booth name] or something in the subject line so people can find top level comments easier.

Work probably started for it on the 5th-7/8th for labor purposes, though feel free to use dates to your advantage here! (Even if characters slapdash something at the last minute, it would be fun to see! It would even be encouraged after the crazy from the last event - kind of a way to get back in touch with themselves.)

CHARACTERS ARE WELCOME TO TAG THE LOG FOR INTERACTING WITH OTHERS, NOT JUST BOOTHS, SO FEEL FREE TO TAG IN! Also a character who might not know what's going on is welcome to walk by and question it! And so forth. (Helios and Ikki made posts in regard to it and there have been art club posters around, so anyone could have noticed those as well!)

I'll leave descriptions up to you all as there isn't much that is too uniform about the displays, as everyone is encouraged to be creative about their presentations and how hard the characters worked isn't something I could define for each of you. Just keep in mind that this takes place in the plaza, there shouldn't be an issue with blocking traffic (there may be ropes up to try and keep pathways clear, however!), though it may branch around various points of the square depending on where someone wants a booth located / the number of actual participants. The square will also have a lot of brightly colored signs and decorations indicating what is going on!

For ideas/reference on how it was handled last time, feel free to look through here! There's no official signup, so go forth!

Realm of Mortals. Asami wasn't really ever going to get used to this sort of thing.

She did reach down to pick up the little wind-up toy of Mako, turning it over in her hands. "Well, there are enough people here that you should get plenty of...understanding. But I think I would have had to make them a lot better if they were ever going to be alive," they did the job, but she'd been rushed, so she wasn't really satisfied with them.

"Do not sell yourself short. My master has said many a god had said the same thing about man, yet see which one of them still walks the Earth and which one has passed on into legend."
tokennonbender: (Mmmhmm you know it.)

She smiled ruefully. "I think people are a bit different from little metal toys."

She wound up the tiny mako and set it back down in the bending arena where it wandered around in a circle.

"A shell as a thing. People are the souls inside."

She nods a little and lets out a sad breath.
tokennonbender: (I can do this.)

"Yeah but you can't give a little metal wind up toy a soul," she frowned. "Or at least, you probably shouldn't..."

"Once there was a man who wished so for a son that he imbued a wooden doll with life. Though I can not say it was not without peril. Souls are tricky things, things that I only have a base understanding of."
tokennonbender: (And now this is awkward. Great.)

[personal profile] tokennonbender 2013-06-11 12:54 pm (UTC)(link)
"...What happened? To the wooden boy?"

"According to the legends, and what my master has told me that eventually, after many trials and tribulations his form was changed to one of flesh and blood, and he lived out a normal life. I have heard tales of the man who carved the boy having a granddaughter as well, but those have been lost to the winds of time."
tokennonbender: (I think maybe...no.)

"But that can't happen with little wind up toys," Asami is pretty stuck on this being impossible.
elevatoravatar: (Not burning the books.)

"Perhaps not with that mindset. Magic is frequently imposing one's will against the universe's."

She shrugs and peers at the little wind up toys a bit more.
tokennonbender: (Okay don't tell anyone but...)

"It seems like it would mostly be cruel to infuse something like a tiny wind-up toy with life though," she said with a shake of her head. "But I suppose as an example it...fits."

"I just don't see anyone here with that sort of power."
elevatoravatar: (Hrm...)

[personal profile] elevatoravatar 2013-06-14 09:46 am (UTC)(link)
"I see many with that power, but most choose not to use it. Probably for the best, if everyone lived at their full potential they may burn brightly like a star for a bit but soon would have exhausted everything."
tokennonbender: (I can do this.)

"...If people are that strong here, we can't they escape?"
elevatoravatar: (what the hell?)

Sorry for the slow reply work/insomnia killed me last week

She shrugs a bit and lets out a breath, deflating slightly.

"I do not know. I know almost nothing about humanity. Why they think what they do, why they do not understand the power of their imagination, why so many yearn for oblivion. If I knew I would answer you, alas I have been so far removed from humanity I can not yet make that judgement yet."
