What: The Cultural Fair
When: June 5th- 12th - admittedly dates are sort of nebulous - set up could have begun as early as the 5th, but given the event recently, more days could have been taken to do it and for people to involve themselves, so it probably "officially" starts a little later (by the 8th at the very least, though work can go on throughout it) - feel free to use your judgement/have fun!

Notes: Booths can be labeled as separate comments! Just put [booth name] or something in the subject line so people can find top level comments easier.

Work probably started for it on the 5th-7/8th for labor purposes, though feel free to use dates to your advantage here! (Even if characters slapdash something at the last minute, it would be fun to see! It would even be encouraged after the crazy from the last event - kind of a way to get back in touch with themselves.)

CHARACTERS ARE WELCOME TO TAG THE LOG FOR INTERACTING WITH OTHERS, NOT JUST BOOTHS, SO FEEL FREE TO TAG IN! Also a character who might not know what's going on is welcome to walk by and question it! And so forth. (Helios and Ikki made posts in regard to it and there have been art club posters around, so anyone could have noticed those as well!)

I'll leave descriptions up to you all as there isn't much that is too uniform about the displays, as everyone is encouraged to be creative about their presentations and how hard the characters worked isn't something I could define for each of you. Just keep in mind that this takes place in the plaza, there shouldn't be an issue with blocking traffic (there may be ropes up to try and keep pathways clear, however!), though it may branch around various points of the square depending on where someone wants a booth located / the number of actual participants. The square will also have a lot of brightly colored signs and decorations indicating what is going on!

[Loki's Asgard Booth]

"Quaffing is that messy?"

He'll look over the 'beard' collection, seeming to give it serious thought. He's beginning to get the impression Loki is humoring someone else by manning this booth.

Someone pretty young.

"Which style is the best for this anti-quaffing block?"

Yeah, he'll play along.

[complicatedliar]

"If done correctly. The floors of the feasting halls get quite sticky."

He smirks. "Enormous and bushy."

Really, Loki's own complete lack of facial hair should speak sarcastic volumes about his thoughts on Asgard.

"Enormous and bushy?" Slight twitch of the lips, "Sounds like that might be part of the problem; too big of a barrier between the drink and the mouth."

He'll go over and look the 'beards' over. Really, he's not too sure about this part of it; he's not exactly fond of dress-up, but he's doing his best to be a good sport about this.

"No true son of Asgard will let anything stand between him and his beverage, Derek. That should be plain." He grins.

That gets a smile and a chuckle from the man.

"Remind me to never be in between them and the mead hall, then. Wouldn't want to get trampled when happy hour starts up."

He picks one of the bushy beards, holding it up.

"What do you think?"

"Your imagination is quite keen, it seems." Loki grins. "Lovely. You'd pass nicely."

"...right up until I shaved the beard off, anyway,"

Even the fake one was already starting to get to him. He'll probably wind up wearing it like a bib before too long, just to get it off his face.

He'll salute Loki with the mug, and, carefully, get a taste of the mead.

Yep, viking fail right here.

"I hear it's quite itchy," Loki noted cheerfully. "Drink as much as you like. That's certainly in keeping with the culture."

Yeah. I tried it once.

...Would rather shave with a rusty hunting knife then try it again.

[And yep, there goes the transfiguration into bib. Easy to get to the mead anyway.]

That sounds very unsanitary, Derek.

[He grins.]

Now you just seem to have a squirrel attacking your neck. Tis a nice look.

Only if I cut myself.

[He laughs.]

Yeah, well it's not like it's the first thing that's tried for my neck. Guess if you get used enough to something, it starts to look like it belongs.

[Loki rubs one cheek and grimaces. He doesn't even want to think about that.]

That's the case for nearly anything... leave it around long enough and it looks like it was always there.

Though I do hope you've never had anything that furry on your neck before.

No. Used to be dog tags but I haven't worn those in years. Plenty of things with fangs have tried it, though.

So far, they haven't managed to get that close, not from lack of trying.

[He shrugs. He figures it's one of the most likely ways he'll end up dying. That, or getting torn in half. Probably depended on what kind of mood the vampire was in at the time.]

I don't know what dog tags are.

The impression I'd gotten was that fanged things didn't tend to be particularly furry.

Military ID tags.

[There's a slight chuckle]

No, definitely not furry. Fanged, clawed, sometimes filthy if they've given up on any pretense of humanity. But no fur. That's werewolves, from what I understand.

And no amorous bearded men, you lucky thing.

Guess they figured it was the easiest way to keep ID on a body that might not make it out of a battlefield intact. Seems to work most of the time.

...not, not amorous. I've met a few bearded ones, though.

I suppose it is more efficient than the tradition of letting the women onto the battle field to collect their dead. You do tend to kill each other in truly impressive numbers these days.

Bearded men or bearded nasty things?

They'd balk at the cost of sending the women to the battle field in the first place, never mind letting them wander it.

[A quiet laugh.]

Sadly, both. With about the same intent, if not the same way of going about it.

If they were smart, they'd fear the wrath of the women more than the cost.

[He laughs.]

Derek you are giving me the impression that you're just wonderful at making friends.

If the women are willing to fight, I agree with you one hundred percent. Rudyard Kipling had it right.

[Only...not really, at least not to angry bikers and the vampires he hunted down.]

I haven't met the gentleman so I wouldn't know. But women don't have to be willing to fight in order to be deadly, either. [Thinking if Frigga, here.] They're generally more cunning than that.

I do find it comforting whenever I meet someone markedly worse at it than myself. [Since he does know there's a major difference between making friends and getting people to like you. The latter is easily managed if he cares enough to lie.]

Loki, if there's one thing I've learned, to them, that is fighting.

As for the friends...[He shrugs. He knows he has his faults and that that will make him enemies. Such is life.] Win some, lose some. The lifestyle doesn't exactly lend itself to friends, anyway.

[He laughs.] Depends on the woman, ultimately. But it is lovely.

What sort if lifestyle is that?
