What: The Cultural Fair
When: June 5th- 12th - admittedly dates are sort of nebulous - set up could have begun as early as the 5th, but given the event recently, more days could have been taken to do it and for people to involve themselves, so it probably "officially" starts a little later (by the 8th at the very least, though work can go on throughout it) - feel free to use your judgement/have fun!

Notes: Booths can be labeled as separate comments! Just put [booth name] or something in the subject line so people can find top level comments easier.

Work probably started for it on the 5th-7/8th for labor purposes, though feel free to use dates to your advantage here! (Even if characters slapdash something at the last minute, it would be fun to see! It would even be encouraged after the crazy from the last event - kind of a way to get back in touch with themselves.)

CHARACTERS ARE WELCOME TO TAG THE LOG FOR INTERACTING WITH OTHERS, NOT JUST BOOTHS, SO FEEL FREE TO TAG IN! Also a character who might not know what's going on is welcome to walk by and question it! And so forth. (Helios and Ikki made posts in regard to it and there have been art club posters around, so anyone could have noticed those as well!)

I'll leave descriptions up to you all as there isn't much that is too uniform about the displays, as everyone is encouraged to be creative about their presentations and how hard the characters worked isn't something I could define for each of you. Just keep in mind that this takes place in the plaza, there shouldn't be an issue with blocking traffic (there may be ropes up to try and keep pathways clear, however!), though it may branch around various points of the square depending on where someone wants a booth located / the number of actual participants. The square will also have a lot of brightly colored signs and decorations indicating what is going on!

For ideas/reference on how it was handled last time, feel free to look through here! There's no official signup, so go forth!

I hadn't thought of it like that. I suppose that's so, yes.

[She taps her chin...]

So you like catching. And I suspect you're quite good at it. Are you good at other positions too? Pitching and the like?

I like to think I'm a pretty decent pitcher. Really it just depends on knowing where you want the ball to go and finding the best way to get it there. [He lifts up the bat and gives it a practice swing.]

I've been told I have a good swing. But I'm a little rusty. It's been a long time since I last played.

Well...[She picks up a ball] Would you care to hit a few of my pitches? It's been a while since I played...but I enjoy watching baseball with Yuuna at home.

[He grins, suddenly looking really eager as he steps on the makeshift base.]

Alright. I would love to.

[She steps back a few paces and tosses the ball. It's not a good throw at all, just an easy overhand toss. Shouldn't be too hard to hit, and it's clear she has no idea what she's doing.]

[Steve doesn't seem to mind the weakness of the throw and easily hits the ball past her.]

[She tries to catch it, without success but goes and picks it up once more.]

Do you have any tips on how to throw better?

Try throwing some more weight into it. Pro pitches tend to stand side ways to start with and then they take a step forward as they throw their arm back. It allows you to put more of yourself into the throw.

[He drops the bat long enough to demonstrate what he's talking about.]

Alright. Get ready.

[She gets ready and winds up for a decent pitch. It's not pro-form at all, but she puts a lot of force behind it so it is fast. Still an easy hit, but definitely fast.]

[Steve notices the improvement with a smile. The ball is fast but not nearly as fast as his reflexes. The bat connects with the ball and it goes soaring through the sky once again in Saori's direction.]

[This time she does catch it, though it's with a net of air instead of anything else.]

Don't want to lose the ball do we?

[She takes another pitching stance...this time considering a bit, focusing more on throwing the ball like she might a knife or a dart or a slingstone...]

No. We certainly do not.

[He falls easily into his batter stance and waits patiently while she adjusts her own.]

[This time her pitch is much, much better. It's fast, straight, and has a lot of force. Probably still an easy hit for a super soldier, but not for an ordinary guy.]

[If Steve hadn't been watching as carefully as he did there's a chance he would have missed have missed it. But as his attention had been centered on her, he was able to hit it without a problem. If only barely.]

That was a good one. Best of them so far.

[Another net catches it easily and she tosses it up in the air, catching it readily.]

I'm not cut out for the professional leagues I suppose, but good. I like learning new things.

You certainly throw faster than most. That will definitely come in handy if you decide to join in on a game.

Good. Maybe sometime this summer a game could be arranged with some residents. That would be fun.

Yeah. I think so to. Do you think people would be interested?

Of course. I think a lot of people would. Baseball's something lots of people can enjoy. Don't you think they would?

Probably. I mean people seem to think events that bring everyone together around here. I just figured that maybe some won't since they might have never heard of baseball before.

Well, it's not a complicated game, and it's competitive, so it's likely people will just take to it. There's no reason not to try, right?

No, you're right. Guess I'm just a little protective of the game. [He grins.]

I think we're all a little protective of our favorite hobbies, aren't we?

[She tosses the ball back to him.]

And it sometimes surprises me that there aren't any sports clubs in Luceti.

Maybe it's because there are some many different cultures here. We all probably have different sports, different favorite sports. Maybe if we found a way to merge them all...

Well, we could always ask around. There are enough people from Earth I think we could manage.
