The Cultural Fair!
Who: Everyone's invited!
What: The Cultural Fair
When: June 5th- 12th - admittedly dates are sort of nebulous - set up could have begun as early as the 5th, but given the event recently, more days could have been taken to do it and for people to involve themselves, so it probably "officially" starts a little later (by the 8th at the very least, though work can go on throughout it) - feel free to use your judgement/have fun!
Where: All around the town square!
Summary: Here.
Rating: ... who knows?!
Notes: Booths can be labeled as separate comments! Just put [booth name] or something in the subject line so people can find top level comments easier.
Work probably started for it on the 5th-7/8th for labor purposes, though feel free to use dates to your advantage here! (Even if characters slapdash something at the last minute, it would be fun to see! It would even be encouraged after the crazy from the last event - kind of a way to get back in touch with themselves.)
CHARACTERS ARE WELCOME TO TAG THE LOG FOR INTERACTING WITH OTHERS, NOT JUST BOOTHS, SO FEEL FREE TO TAG IN! Also a character who might not know what's going on is welcome to walk by and question it! And so forth. (Helios and Ikki made posts in regard to it and there have been art club posters around, so anyone could have noticed those as well!)
I'll leave descriptions up to you all as there isn't much that is too uniform about the displays, as everyone is encouraged to be creative about their presentations and how hard the characters worked isn't something I could define for each of you. Just keep in mind that this takes place in the plaza, there shouldn't be an issue with blocking traffic (there may be ropes up to try and keep pathways clear, however!), though it may branch around various points of the square depending on where someone wants a booth located / the number of actual participants. The square will also have a lot of brightly colored signs and decorations indicating what is going on!
For ideas/reference on how it was handled last time, feel free to look through here! There's no official signup, so go forth!

They must be different. I don't think I've ever seen a scone another colour.
We also have clotted cream. And whipped cream for heathens.
no subject
....
So this is...
...
[So it's true. England really can't cook even if some of his citizens apparently can. It's no wonder America always gave Japan crazy signals to not eat anything when England offered.]
Ah...perhaps I was simply mistaken. When Eng-- my friend made them, they always came out a little-- ... differently.
You are both citizens of England?
no subject
We are! Max here is from around . . . [He sifts through Max's map to find one of England, then points to York.] -here.
And I - I'm Jack, by the way, nice to meet you - I was born here- [He pokes his finger right in the middle of Gloucestershire.] - though right before I came to Luceti I was living a fair bit further to the north.
no subject
Well, actually I'm a Commonwealth citizen. I just come from England. But yeah pretty much.
How about you?
no subject
[York and Gloucestershire are recognizable, but this Commonwealth thing is new. Japan steps a little closer to study the maps and frowns. Those don't look like normal maps at all. When he speaks, he's distracted by pouring over the maps to find familiar landmarks.]
My name is Japan. I live in Tokyo-san's prefecture now since that is closest to my boss...
no subject
. . . sorry, I could have sworn that you just said that you name is 'Japan.' And that you live in, er. Tokyo. In Japan.
no subject
[Which will seem from Japan's perspective to take up a rather large chunk of the world. he shares a glance with Jack at that introduction though, a small frown on his face.]
no subject
I...see. This map is dated to when?
[He raises his eyes and looks at Jack, inclining his head again.]
And yes. My name is Japan. It is unfortunate I was unaware of this event or I could have created a booth for my country as well. England-san would be proud of what you both have presented.
no subject
[It's given in the tone that says that he does not see, at all, but also does not intend to really get into it while the newcomer is occupied elsewhere. At a loss for what else to do, he pours the man a mug of tea, passing it toward him.]
Well. Thank you.
no subject
He just stares for a moment when the man introduces himself, frowning slightly.]
Uh... did you have really patriotic parents?
no subject
...
At least not in his world.
When he realises that these people must not be from a version of his earth, Japan lets out a small sigh and shakes his head at Max before bowing his head in gratitude to Jack for the tea.]
I did not have parents. Nations never do.
This map is unique to your world...? I have never seen one like it before.
no subject
All in about the space of three seconds.]
All right, Max, we're the hosts. Why don't we explain your unique geopolitical situation before questioning Mr. Japan.
no subject
Uh, yeah. Sure.
Commonwealth. Formed after World War Two when the countries that made up the British Empire kind of merged into one state because it was better than getting swallowed up by America or the Soviets. Parliament moves around every few years.
Soviet Union here. We're on pretty good terms with them. America here. They're kind of... isolationist.
[He looked thoughtful for a moment.]
And then there's the Sidhe but they're not exactly uh... from this reality. [He turns to give Jack a questioning look.]
Does that about cover it?
no subject
Soviet Union, on good terms---
No.
That was about where his brain shut down and his head froze, mid-nod. Even now, with all the differences set aside, Japan was still wary of his neighbour to the north. Especially recently with how Russian fighters had been encroaching upon his northernmost islands and calling it an innocent "mistake." Nothing Russia did was innocent.
He opened his eyes and looked down at the Soviet Union, frown deepening.]
I do not see how England-san could ever create a good alliance with that monster, but yes, your explanation was very informative. Thank you.
no subject
That's the funny thing about all being from different worlds, isn't it? Now, my world, we have what seems to be a more standard 'United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland' configuration. [He finger-draws on the map again as he does, excluding the Republic of Ireland from the bubble he draws to encompass the aforementioned territory]
The Soviet Union's just been the Russian Federation since the early nineties, and America won't stop vomiting its culture at everyone. Closer to what you were expecting, maybe?
no subject
We've been close since World War Two, pretty much. Good trade, exchange projects, joint military maneuvers sometimes.
[It's probably good that Jack jumps in. Max may be sulking a little.]
no subject
Just like he's on good terms with China.
And Korea.
....
Ugh, headache.]
Mm...the differences in worlds would account for it, yes. I apologise if I have made you upset - it is just strange for a Nation to see the differences in borders when it is something so important to us.
no subject
[There's no delicate way to ask, so Jack just comes right out with it, hands folded in front of his face, expression both thoughtful and utterly lost.]
What exactly do you mean, 'nation'?
no subject
He frowns, reaching out with magical senses but it's all but impossible to get a grip, except old and not human.]
Wait, are you like a- a genius locii or something? But for a... whole... country...
[That's kind of terrifying.]
no subject
[Japan takes a step back and faces them properly, holding the tea at his waist level as he gives them both a proper bow.]
I am the nation of Japan.
[He straightens, inclining his head slightly to one side.]
As someone here once said, I am the personification of the country, its people, ideas, and culture.
[He pauses for a moment.]
Is that what your word means?
no subject
[He glances over at Jack, giving him a questioning look.]
Have you ever been into a really old building, or place in a forest, and just felt like there's something more there? It's kind of... there's psychic pressure, magical, human, whatever, and over centuries it becomes at least semi-sentient.
...I'm not explaining it very well, am I?
It sounds at least a little similar...
no subject
[Jack is entirely lost, looking between them, though he at least has the presence of mind to keep searching for answers.]
That's . . . wow. [He looks over Japan uncertainly.] So you're . . . really old, probably.
no subject
...
And I'm very sentient. [Because he is. He always has been. And China can attest to how much of a brat he was as a child.]
But yes, you are correct. Aside from China-san, I am one of the older Nations still in existence. I remember Rome-san coming when I was a child, and I believe that was near the height of his power.
[Japan pauses.]
Not that it would stop that man. Even after he ceased to exist, he has been sighted by his grandson, Italy-kun.
no subject
[And he could say more but he's kind of unsettled by the idea. A sentient personification of a country. Like... gods he can understand, but this...]
Ceased to exist? How? I mean, are you tied to the land or to the people?
