What: The Cultural Fair
When: June 5th- 12th - admittedly dates are sort of nebulous - set up could have begun as early as the 5th, but given the event recently, more days could have been taken to do it and for people to involve themselves, so it probably "officially" starts a little later (by the 8th at the very least, though work can go on throughout it) - feel free to use your judgement/have fun!

Notes: Booths can be labeled as separate comments! Just put [booth name] or something in the subject line so people can find top level comments easier.

Work probably started for it on the 5th-7/8th for labor purposes, though feel free to use dates to your advantage here! (Even if characters slapdash something at the last minute, it would be fun to see! It would even be encouraged after the crazy from the last event - kind of a way to get back in touch with themselves.)

CHARACTERS ARE WELCOME TO TAG THE LOG FOR INTERACTING WITH OTHERS, NOT JUST BOOTHS, SO FEEL FREE TO TAG IN! Also a character who might not know what's going on is welcome to walk by and question it! And so forth. (Helios and Ikki made posts in regard to it and there have been art club posters around, so anyone could have noticed those as well!)

I'll leave descriptions up to you all as there isn't much that is too uniform about the displays, as everyone is encouraged to be creative about their presentations and how hard the characters worked isn't something I could define for each of you. Just keep in mind that this takes place in the plaza, there shouldn't be an issue with blocking traffic (there may be ropes up to try and keep pathways clear, however!), though it may branch around various points of the square depending on where someone wants a booth located / the number of actual participants. The square will also have a lot of brightly colored signs and decorations indicating what is going on!

Oh.

[ She's quiet for a moment, as if she hadn't even considered up to this point that she'd get to ask a question. Finally she seems to decide and claps her hands together. ]

What am I like in the future? Everyone would just say I'm mysterious. Or they wouldn't answer me. But I think I want to know.

Hmm. [ Twilight looks into her ball, frowns, and shakes her head. ]

The oracles need more information than that. What are you like now? How would you describe yourself?

[before_my_darkness]

[ That gets another pause. ]

I'm... darkness. [ That much she knows for sure. It takes her several seconds to come up with anything else she can say. ] Curious? I suppose... Maybe nice? [ Is she nice? She thinks she's nice, but that might be Twila telling her she's nice. This is a really hard question okay. ]

Hmm. { She purses her lips and rubs her crystal ball a little. ] Well, I see darkness lifting from your perspective. Whether or not it lifts from the perspective of others is up to you.

[ It's a guess. But Twilight reasons: a curious soul will gain more and more knowledge about himself and others. What he does with that knowledge will say a lot about his character, and even a true fortune teller might not be able to divine what he's going to do. ]

Um... What does that mean?

[ One is not the best at wordplay when one is effectively only a month old. ]

[ Twilight looks up from her ball and smiles at him. ] It means you'll grow up, and you'll have to decide what that means for how you interact with other people.

Oh. So why would that change anything? I wouldn't think that growing up would make anything different.

Growing up changes everything. [ She places her ball aside. Time for REAL TALK. ] You figure out what kind of person you are, what you're good at, what you want to do for the rest of your life. The fates say you'll need to choose carefully, but choose wisely and you could become both powerful and widely loved.

... [ Oh.

Saten takes a moment to digest that. ]

How long does it take?

[ Because that sounds like it's complicated. ]

It depends. It could be your whole life! Isn't that exciting? It's like the longest possible story.

[before_my_darkness]

How do you do something for the rest of your life if it takes your whole life to decide what to do?

[ She's just trying to figure this all out, sob. ]

... Oh. Right.

Well, maybe it won't take your whole life. But it could take a while! Or it could take no time at all. I can't really tell you that.

Oh. I see...

So how long does it usually take?

[fourthgenerationprincess]

Depends on how long you live! Most ponies usually find their cutie mark before they become an adult.

[before_my_darkness]

[ Wait hold up. ]

... "Cutie mark"? I don't think I've heard of that before.

[fourthgenerationprincess]

Most people haven't. [ She noses up her dress to display a six-pointed star on her flank. ] Ponies get their cutie marks when they figure out what it is they want to do with the rest of their life. There doesn't seem to be anything as specific or clear-cut for humans, or most human-like creatures.

[before_my_darkness]

[ Saten glances down to the equivalent location on her body for a moment, but no, she's pretty sure she doesn't have anything like that there. So she turns back to Twilight. ]

What do I get instead?

I don't know. I was only a human for a couple of weeks.

But there must be something! Because plenty of humans that I know all have a decent idea of what they want out of life.

[before_my_darkness]

Oh. I'm not human. I'm just darkness.

[ ... Yes Saten that is very helpful. ]

Ah... like a shadow? Are you real?

[before_my_darkness]

Um... yes? I think I'm real. Why wouldn't I be?

[ And now she is terribly, terribly confused. ]

I've never heard of sentient darkness. [ Twilight stares at him perhaps a little more than is polite or than she means to. ] You're fascinating!

[before_my_darkness]

Really? But that's just what I am. I don't see what's strange about that.

[ Of course you wouldn't, Saten... ]

[fourthgenerationprincess]

Well, I'm a talking multicolored pony, and plenty of people here find me strange. I guess it's just different standards of normality! Where I come from, shadows don't speak.

Really? I guess I haven't seen too many others like you here. But I still don't know what's supposed to be strange or not. Everything still seems a bit strange to me...
