What: The Cultural Fair
When: June 5th- 12th - admittedly dates are sort of nebulous - set up could have begun as early as the 5th, but given the event recently, more days could have been taken to do it and for people to involve themselves, so it probably "officially" starts a little later (by the 8th at the very least, though work can go on throughout it) - feel free to use your judgement/have fun!

Notes: Booths can be labeled as separate comments! Just put [booth name] or something in the subject line so people can find top level comments easier.

Work probably started for it on the 5th-7/8th for labor purposes, though feel free to use dates to your advantage here! (Even if characters slapdash something at the last minute, it would be fun to see! It would even be encouraged after the crazy from the last event - kind of a way to get back in touch with themselves.)

CHARACTERS ARE WELCOME TO TAG THE LOG FOR INTERACTING WITH OTHERS, NOT JUST BOOTHS, SO FEEL FREE TO TAG IN! Also a character who might not know what's going on is welcome to walk by and question it! And so forth. (Helios and Ikki made posts in regard to it and there have been art club posters around, so anyone could have noticed those as well!)

I'll leave descriptions up to you all as there isn't much that is too uniform about the displays, as everyone is encouraged to be creative about their presentations and how hard the characters worked isn't something I could define for each of you. Just keep in mind that this takes place in the plaza, there shouldn't be an issue with blocking traffic (there may be ropes up to try and keep pathways clear, however!), though it may branch around various points of the square depending on where someone wants a booth located / the number of actual participants. The square will also have a lot of brightly colored signs and decorations indicating what is going on!

For ideas/reference on how it was handled last time, feel free to look through here! There's no official signup, so go forth!

Asami grinned. "I can understand that, I picked up kind of a tough instructor myself. Short, grumpy guy?" Maybe they'd found the same one, there weren't a lot of people here...

"It's...I've never really been a performer like this. I mean, my father paraded me out at parties and balls and events for the factor but never where I was the 'center stage' you know?" She shrugged. "It is fun. Although it helps that people are a lot more interested in the benders."

"Very hairy, doesn't like to be called an angry weasel? Sounds like we might have the same guy." And if so, she was very sorry, Asami. Zatanna knew just how rough he got.

"Ugh. Definitely not the type of performing I was talking about." Being dragged out for social status didn't really appeal to Zatanna. "I mean the kind where you really get to do something you love. It's high pressure, but it's also where you prove just how hard you've worked. Plus, at least with magic, it's always fun seeing people's reactions."

She shrugged a shoulder. "But it's not for everyone, so I get it. They're missing out if they don't watch you, though."

Asami snirked at that description, bobbing her head with a hand over her mouth to keep from laughing. "Y-yeah. I never thought to call him that, though. He threw me through an obstacle course that would've made most of my teachers back home have fits."

She shrugged. "Thanks. Really. But if I had to choose between watching me, or watching Zuko and Aang doing that fire dance, I'd pick the fire dance."

"Oh, you don't mean the one with the sawblades and the walls slamming into each other, do you?" Yeah, Zatanna had gone through that too. She crossed her arms over her chest as she rolled her eyes. "Black Canary can be pretty intense, but she's not inhumane. He said it was supposed to be possible to beat, but I'll believe that when I see it."

But hey, someone who appreciates the nickname. That earns a grin.

"Fire dance? I don't think I've seen that one yet." She looked over to the stage where Zuko had been earlier; she recognized him at least. "Don't sell yourself short, though. You've definitely worked hard, and it shows. Just because you don't have powers doesn't mean it's not impressive."

"Black Canary?" Well, that was a heck of a name. "I just had tutors back home, and regular trainers. No one with these kinds of...personalities."

Asami looked over at the other stage too. "It's a kind of ritual dance he and Aang do. It's pretty amazing. I had never seen it before today." She shrugged at the rest. "Thanks. Maybe you're right," she knew she was as good as benders, but flashy...well.

"It's at least better than Plastic Man?" Yeah, she's got nothing. "They're superheroes. Most of them pick names to be intimidating, or something like that."

"That's cool. I'll have to see if I can catch it." Rituals were always interesting, not only for the ceremony but also the results. "And trust me. Not everyone on my team has powers, but they don't need them to do great things. You're the same way."

"...Plastic man." All Asami knew about plastic was that it was very strange and useful in making batteries. "Why would anyone call themselves that?"

She wasn't prepared to point out how not intimidating 'black canary' was.

"I hope you're right," she shrugged. "I'm going to keep trying either way."

"Because he's really stretchy and has bad taste?" Zatanna thinks it has more to do with the latter, personally. "You don't even want to see his outfit. Easily the worst in the League."

Someone might think that--and then they could meet her. But Zatanna did get it.

"Which is what counts. And hey, if you ever want someone to practice with, you can probably kick my butt pretty easily. But the girl I live with is really good too, and she'd probably be up for a spar--at least when she gets back from her mission."

Or so Zatanna hopes.

Asami just laughed. "I guess I can't argue with that." The League, though... "So you know a lot of people who dress up in costumes with powers?"

Because that was strange.

"Well, maybe I'll take her up on that."

“Yeah. I kind of grew up around it, since my dad—well, he still is one of them.” Technically. But it was a complicated issue, one that had Zatanna looking away for a moment before she kept going. “And I’m one too, now. There’s a bunch of reasons for it—intimidation and protecting secret identities are the main ones though.”

"Secret Identities." She looked thoughtful. "I can't even really imagine that. Everyone knows who I am. And my friends are pro-benders, and the avatar.."

She just shook her head. She wanted to ask about the father thing, something to easily relate over, but she didn't even know if she wanted to talk about her own father issues. "Do you have a secret code name?"

"Well, like I said, it's to protect people. Families and friends." Out of all the League, very few went by their real names. Of course, her father hadn't been one of them, but there had been reasons for that too.

"No. I don't really need one; no one knows who I am anyway. But my father didn't go by a code name either."

Asami looked thoughtful. "Does that mean the other heroes are people that everyone would recognize otherwise?"

Famous people who decided to be superheroes. Interesting.

“Not all of them. My dad actually is kind of famous, and he doesn’t keep his identity secret.” Most people just didn’t realize he had a daughter. “And Hawkman and Hawkwoman are aliens with giant wings, so it’s kind of impossible for them to hide. But even being in the League doesn’t necessarily mean you know the secret identity of everyone else. There’s this one guy, Captain Marvel? He’s really a ten year old kid whose powers transform him in an adult. No one had a clue for the longest time.“

"A ten year old superhero," she wasn't quite certain what to think of that, even putting aside the 'turns into an adult' bit.

"Do you like doing things like that?" She had been about to do something similar before she'd been brought here. "Being a superhero I mean."

"Yeah, actually. There's a team of us all around the same age." The sidekicks and proteges, or in Zatanna's case, the child of superheroes in the Justice League. "And I do like it. It feels good being able to help people, and I'd be lying if I said I didn't enjoy kicking some bad guy butt."

But it wasn't all fun and victories. "Although it can be dangerous, too."

"I can imagine." She's not quite sure what else to say about it. "But i bet it's exciting."

"Yeah, definitely. I mean, how many teenagers can say they've helped save the world?"

Well, I think some of the people I live with can say that, actually...But they're heroes too, they just didn't call themselves 'superheroes'..

I think the super part mostly comes from the powers. It's kind of unusual in my world. And then the ones without powers got lumped into the same group, which makes sense since they formed a league to fight against evil.

A league against evil. [She laughs.] I kind of like the sound of that.

The official name is the Justice League. And it is pretty cool.

'Justice League.' Really?

That's a bit...
