What: The Cultural Fair
When: June 5th- 12th - admittedly dates are sort of nebulous - set up could have begun as early as the 5th, but given the event recently, more days could have been taken to do it and for people to involve themselves, so it probably "officially" starts a little later (by the 8th at the very least, though work can go on throughout it) - feel free to use your judgement/have fun!

Notes: Booths can be labeled as separate comments! Just put [booth name] or something in the subject line so people can find top level comments easier.

Work probably started for it on the 5th-7/8th for labor purposes, though feel free to use dates to your advantage here! (Even if characters slapdash something at the last minute, it would be fun to see! It would even be encouraged after the crazy from the last event - kind of a way to get back in touch with themselves.)

CHARACTERS ARE WELCOME TO TAG THE LOG FOR INTERACTING WITH OTHERS, NOT JUST BOOTHS, SO FEEL FREE TO TAG IN! Also a character who might not know what's going on is welcome to walk by and question it! And so forth. (Helios and Ikki made posts in regard to it and there have been art club posters around, so anyone could have noticed those as well!)

I'll leave descriptions up to you all as there isn't much that is too uniform about the displays, as everyone is encouraged to be creative about their presentations and how hard the characters worked isn't something I could define for each of you. Just keep in mind that this takes place in the plaza, there shouldn't be an issue with blocking traffic (there may be ropes up to try and keep pathways clear, however!), though it may branch around various points of the square depending on where someone wants a booth located / the number of actual participants. The square will also have a lot of brightly colored signs and decorations indicating what is going on!

For ideas/reference on how it was handled last time, feel free to look through here! There's no official signup, so go forth!

Well... lots of things. Like using it to propel yourself, for one.

... Like flying?

[ That sounds kinda like flying. ]

Well... sort of. Depending on how good you are.

To really fly with it, even the best have to have some outside influence making their firebending stronger temporarily.

[Like a comet.]

So then is it... floating, or what?

It's more like... just using it to push yourself.

[He'd compare it to a rocket if he knew what one was.]

... I don't think I get it. Can you demonstrate at all?

I... Just imagine something like this.

[He holds a hand out, shooting a bit of flame from his palm.]

And it's done in such a way that the force of the blast sends my hand going the other way.

... [ Huh. ]

So like a rocket?

[ Yes, that was the correct comparison. And it will be totally helpful in this case, clearly. ]

[He blinks.]

[ How does one describe a rocket without pointing to Zuko's demonstration and going "like that". ]

It helps spaceships move around, and that sort of thing. Rockets make a lot of fire, and it pushes the ship in the opposite direction...

[ This is a terrible explanation isn't it. ]

A space ship?

[Zuko just looks confused. Is that a ship with a lot of space? A ship that moves through large spaces...?]

Yeah. You can use it to go between different planets.

[ Or between worlds which have been simplified in the Disney tradition to the point where they are sufficiently abstracted as being planets. But that is slightly too meta. ]

Planets? Like...

[He points upward with one finger.]

I always figured those were unreachable.

Well... I guess, they kind of are, if you don't have rockets. I don't really know of any other way to get from one planet to another.

[ Aside from CORRIDORS OF DARKNESS but we were leaving behind our worlds-planets abstraction. ]

Maybe Sokka and Teo's dad will invent something like that in the future.

[Maybe he should ask Korra or her friends if they have rockets in the future of his own world. But then, he doesn't really like hearing about what's to come.]

Well... no. But they're really good at inventing new devices.

Spaceships are pretty complicated, though. You need the rockets, plus oxygen, and some way to control it...

Well... if they don't figure it out they might develop things that others will later improve upon. That's how inventing works, right?

Yeah, usually. But they probably won't get to another planet themselves, at least.

I guess you're right... but I can't help but think that sounds a little pessimistic.
