The Cultural Fair!

Who: Everyone's invited!
What: The Cultural Fair
When: June 5th- 12th - admittedly dates are sort of nebulous - set up could have begun as early as the 5th, but given the event recently, more days could have been taken to do it and for people to involve themselves, so it probably "officially" starts a little later (by the 8th at the very least, though work can go on throughout it) - feel free to use your judgement/have fun!
Where: All around the town square!
Summary: Here.
Rating: ... who knows?!

Notes: Booths can be labeled as separate comments! Just put [booth name] or something in the subject line so people can find top level comments easier.

Work probably started for it on the 5th-7/8th for labor purposes, though feel free to use dates to your advantage here! (Even if characters slapdash something at the last minute, it would be fun to see! It would even be encouraged after the crazy from the last event - kind of a way to get back in touch with themselves.)

CHARACTERS ARE WELCOME TO TAG THE LOG FOR INTERACTING WITH OTHERS, NOT JUST BOOTHS, SO FEEL FREE TO TAG IN! Also a character who might not know what's going on is welcome to walk by and question it! And so forth. (Helios and Ikki made posts in regard to it and there have been art club posters around, so anyone could have noticed those as well!)

I'll leave descriptions up to you all as there isn't much that is too uniform about the displays, as everyone is encouraged to be creative about their presentations and how hard the characters worked isn't something I could define for each of you. Just keep in mind that this takes place in the plaza, there shouldn't be an issue with blocking traffic (there may be ropes up to try and keep pathways clear, however!), though it may branch around various points of the square depending on where someone wants a booth located / the number of actual participants. The square will also have a lot of brightly colored signs and decorations indicating what is going on!

For ideas/reference on how it was handled last time, feel free to look through here! There's no official signup, so go forth!

[It seems they've circled back to this topic after all.]

I was a more skilled kenshi than my brother, the heir to the dojo. He could not bear the shame and ended his life.
neverplaysfair: (Shame it didn’t work out.)

... [ Oh. ]

So rather than cast aside his pride, your father sentenced his dojo to ruin?
therewerefifty: (searching look)

[She looks at him sharply, not quite expecting that response. In fact, she's never really thought of it that way. It's an interesting thought.

Of course...]
I suppose that's one way to put it. But I'm quite sure many of his peers would consider a woman inheriting the dojo as something shameful, also.

Of course. It's a great deal of pride to cast aside.

Then again, I suppose samurai do tend to be the type to choose their own self-destruction over a loss of face.
therewerefifty: (I look kinda adorable here)

...I certainly can't disagree with that point. My...friend would say that much of Japan's warriors are too concerned with decorum and tradition to be an effective fighting force for the country. He seeks to change this.
neverplaysfair: (That was a nice distraction.)

[personal profile] neverplaysfair 2013-08-19 02:33 pm (UTC)(link)
Part of that tradition and decorum is for the enforcement of the castes, isn't it? That perhaps more than anything else is what separates samurai from the ninja. From that perspective, it's understandable why samurai would want to keep it. It ensures their status in society.

You are certainly quite perceptive.

Given that truth, I would hope for his success even more.

Though it did not come to pass in my world, I certainly hope it does in yours. For all its issues, it does seem like a step in the right direction. Though I suppose I have only my own biases to base that on.

[She smiles at that.]

You seem very well educated on the caste system. I...must confess I am curious to know what your own biases are.
neverplaysfair: (Your timer must be nearly ticked out.)

[ Living in it helps with that! ]

Everything that makes up the perspective I've come to view the world from. I suppose I can give some of them, but even then it's barely scratching the surface.
therewerefifty: (I don't need it anyway)

No, it's all right. It seems you would have to unravel for me a wealth of accrued knowledge. It's been rather enlightening to speak with you, Joshua.
neverplaysfair: (That was a nice distraction.)

And with you. I hope you enjoy it here, for what it is.
