250mhzwabl: (-you're laughing out loud)

and the bass keeps runnin runnin

Who: Anyone who heard the announcement, caught a flier in the plaza, of heard by word of mouth. Everyone's welcome!
What: A rave! Well, "rave." Luceti makes everything a little different.
When: June 21st, nightfall to early morning
Where: the beach near Adele's house
Summary: It's the first day of summer! This calls for bonfires, naturally, but why not spice it up with loud music, flashing lights, drinks, dancing, and a conspicuous lack of curfew?
Rating: PG to PG-13, please move anything steamier to appointments or Adele will take the hose to you

Getting all the firewood, food, and drink out to the beach had been, honestly, the hardest part of preparation. Whatever else one might say about running things on magic, it certainly did cut down on the trouble of constructing edifices and machines to run the entertainment side of a party. As it stands, the setup is labour-intensive but otherwise minimal, and there's not much to do by sunset. Escape the house before Max and Zevran, the culture-displaced madmen, can put any more eyeliner on him. Arrive at the beach. Light the bonfires. Make sure the bonfire-cooking-compliant food is set out. Put up a table loaded with bottles, cups, ice, and permanent markers. Thank the resident doctor and quartermaster once more. Plug in the stereo system.

The speakers and light show have been with him since he left his house, in the form of the resident god of mischief, and they confer over sheets of paper with track names and times written on them for a little while just before the start. That's the last of it, and by the time the sky above the mountains is beginning to darken into twilight, the first thumping, trilling strains of dance music begin to echo out across the sand.

It's the shortest night of the year. Best make every second last.

[OOC: Feel free to post your character for mingling, since this entire event is very free-form anyway. For everyone's enjoyment there is a drinks table, food, several bonfires, the ocean (lifeguards not on duty, splash drunkenly at your own risk), and of course a dancing area with lights and music. Music will probably be primarily EDM with a heavy bass line, but occasionally wander into the territories of electro-swing and the like to give even less modern partygoers a chance to show off. The light show as well will stray out of the typical at times, with the expected abstract wheeling and flashing lights giving way to more complicated illusions. Don't be surprised to find yourself and your fellows occasionally dancing in a forest glen or a Rivendell look-alike for a few minutes at a time. Loki is working the tech booth, after all.

The party will go as long as people stay and are enjoying themselves, so have fun and tag around!]

"I have not had cause to attend one for...well. Since I was eighteen." She pulls a bottle of water out for herself and cracks it open to take a deep swig. Dancing and just wandering around is thirsty work, especially when one must avoid the bulk of the party through bobbing and weaving.

"That might be what it is called. Though I do not see much raving. Just gyrating and grinding and precious little proper dancing. It's a little sad." Proper dancing would make everything so much more interesting. "It is not too loud for you, is it? If you need a break from the racket there is a ward on my home to provide sound dampening. It is quite calm inside."
folklorist: (I suppose that works)

"Ah y-yes. I never...did go out much at that age." So he's a bit lost on the whole...gyrating and grinding against people being acceptable and fun. No doubt it would have caused so many uncomfortable scenarios for him anyway, so perhaps it was for the best.

"It-it doesn't really look like dancing, no. I...know a little bit of swing dancing and this-this definitely isn't it." He laughs though shaking his head, but whatever made people happy right? Helios will sip on the tea blinking and shaking his head.

"Oh, no, I'm quite alright. Thank you for the offer. I've been taking frequent walks about the beach. It's...quite a nice night for it at least." He wouldn't want to offend anyone or be rude by leaving in the middle of everything. Besides Max was amongst the crowd so he could stay for him.
fleurdesel: right, smirk, smile, serious (Not certain just yet)

"Perhaps you should ask Max if he would like to swing dance with you later? He would be happy to oblige." And if he wasn't she would offer such a glare until he was actually happy to go off and make Helios as happy as humanly possible.

Not that it will come to that. Max seems as gone for Helios ans Helios is gone for Max. It's heartwarming to see.

"The weather is pleasant for a long stroll on the beach, and it is quite lovely out tonight. If loud. Further down there is a path buffered by some rocks that keeps the bulk of the bass from rattling your bones."
folklorist: (Ever so curious)

"I-I don't know if he'd want to. The music isn't-isn't really appropriate for-for such a thing. He seems to be having a good time just, ah, dancing though." Helios will look out to the ground with a small smile.

"I did dance with him before, at the other gathering. So it's not so bad just to watch. I'm so terribly out of-of practice as is." He would feel quite uncomfortable dancing in all this though. Control chaos is what it truly is, in his mind at least, perhaps he was getting a bit too old for his own good.

"Is there really? I hadn't noticed anything that would be able to muffle this sound." And here he'll laugh amused and entirely in jest.

"If you are certain." She won't push the matter. Helios isn't the most social, social individual she's met. Which is a contradiction in and of itself as he's plenty social just not...quite like this. It's best not to make him feel any more uncomfortable than he might already be feeling.

She settles with a sip of water and nods further down the shoreline. "Just fifty feet down. You will likely still feel the beat behind them, but the noise will not be quite so deafening. It would also be quite private. You cannot see a thing on this side."

Suggesting illicit meetings between sweethearts on a night of revelry? Never.
folklorist: (I'm just your average headmaster yep)

Helios completely understands what Adele is suggesting and it makes him red in the face. Good thing the lighting is poor and the light from the fire makes good cover. He'll cover as he chokes on some of his tea and nods, looking out towards where she's pointed. Awkward? He'd never get awkward at that, nope. Too bad he's terrible at hiding it in his voice.

"O-Oh. That's-that's good to know then. It'll be nice to take a walk there and a break when Max needs to. I-I'll just, ah, mention it to him if he doesn't already know."

Though knowing his housemates and their effects on him Max probably does already, or something to the effect.
fleurdesel: right, tired, sad (And...your point is?)

Tipsy as she is, Adele doesn't laugh. It'd be unkind to laugh and Helios does in no way deserve unkindness. She averts her eyes instead and focuses on drinking water to counteract the aforementioned tipsiness. "Avoid the bottles with the runs. I suspect Loki has done something to them."

Not that she knows from personal experience. At all.

"He will tire of the press and sway eventually. If not I may very well drag him out myself so he remembers to eat something and drink water rather than the plethora of soda, juice, and alcohol on hand over there."
folklorist: (Never seen anything like it)

[personal profile] folklorist 2013-06-23 03:20 am (UTC)(link)
"I-I would go dance with him. But I'm just-just not used to...that sort of thing." All that contact. He smiles sheepishly, ducking his head a little as he nods. He knows Max is understanding but he can't help but feel...chained down by those old scars and hurts that he so desperately tries to free himself from. Always trying to overcome them as best he can, it's an uphill battle that he sometimes never thinks he'll win at.

"Good. That's good. I don't think you'll need to, he knows his limits, but better to be safe than sorry. At least everyone is having a good time."

"I think Jack and Eugene have some electro-swing they played earlier. Sabriel enjoyed it quite a bit." A strange mishmash of two different genres, and yet? it fit. She can't really say anything about dancing to appropriate music after that dubstep tango she and Derek went through earlier.

It'd be good to see Helios dance, though. It meant he was comfortable. That he felt safe and confident and secure and there was precious little Adele wouldn't' give to see that.

"...to think. A year ago? I certainly would not have attended such a gathering, good time or no." She can't help but think Helios would not have come either.
folklorist: (Dour. Something is coming)

Helios lets out a huff turning away to watch the water and the moon hit the waves in such a way that it's almost mesmerizing to watch. He finally looks back at her a bit confused and bit out of sorts as well. Adele, the one person hasn't been on speaking terms with him for several months now is somewhat...friendlier and happier in his company. It's strange and odd how carefree she seems despite knowing a good friend is hurt and jaded from her actions. But the wine and spirits of this night might be clouding his judgment, who knows.

"Lots of things have changed. Yourself included. I-I apologize but I just...don't understand all of this still." Perhaps it was the minute amount of alcohol he had drank but, well, Helios is a bit more emboldened than usual it seems this night. He just wanted to enjoy the festivities with Max and have a good time, but this seemed as good a time as any to tell Adele.

"I-I can't continue to sit here and pretend like nothing is wrong. You...deeply hurt one of my best friends, my f-family, and you haven't spoken this much to me since you stopped talking to Saori. But I can't sit here and talk to you as if nothing is wrong like this. I'm sorry. It's just...very clear in my head. I-I don't know what exactly went on between you both to cause this rift, and I-I sincerely hope you two may find a way to-to fix it." He sighs before he gets up and dusts the sand off his pants and shirt. His face a tight mask but the hurt in his eyes is clear enough. His response wouldn't be any different to anyone else in this situation either. Luceti has taught him to honor his friends and family and put them above all else. Even before this place he has always done so and that would never change.

"I hope you have a good night d-dancing and enjoying yourself. But I'm not sure how much we may speak to one another after all this." And he sounds genuinely sad for that, but he can't really excuse the hurt and pain that Saori is feeling at the moment because of this fracture. It affects him like it would any close friend or someone who is even family by extension. He means Adele no ill-will and he even hopes that she and Saori can become friends once more, if however unlikely, but he stands true to his friends and his word.
