and the bass keeps runnin runnin

Who: Anyone who heard the announcement, caught a flier in the plaza, of heard by word of mouth. Everyone's welcome!
What: A rave! Well, "rave." Luceti makes everything a little different.
When: June 21st, nightfall to early morning
Where: the beach near Adele's house
Summary: It's the first day of summer! This calls for bonfires, naturally, but why not spice it up with loud music, flashing lights, drinks, dancing, and a conspicuous lack of curfew?
Rating: PG to PG-13, please move anything steamier to appointments or Adele will take the hose to you

Getting all the firewood, food, and drink out to the beach had been, honestly, the hardest part of preparation. Whatever else one might say about running things on magic, it certainly did cut down on the trouble of constructing edifices and machines to run the entertainment side of a party. As it stands, the setup is labour-intensive but otherwise minimal, and there's not much to do by sunset. Escape the house before Max and Zevran, the culture-displaced madmen, can put any more eyeliner on him. Arrive at the beach. Light the bonfires. Make sure the bonfire-cooking-compliant food is set out. Put up a table loaded with bottles, cups, ice, and permanent markers. Thank the resident doctor and quartermaster once more. Plug in the stereo system.

The speakers and light show have been with him since he left his house, in the form of the resident god of mischief, and they confer over sheets of paper with track names and times written on them for a little while just before the start. That's the last of it, and by the time the sky above the mountains is beginning to darken into twilight, the first thumping, trilling strains of dance music begin to echo out across the sand.

It's the shortest night of the year. Best make every second last.

[OOC: Feel free to post your character for mingling, since this entire event is very free-form anyway. For everyone's enjoyment there is a drinks table, food, several bonfires, the ocean (lifeguards not on duty, splash drunkenly at your own risk), and of course a dancing area with lights and music. Music will probably be primarily EDM with a heavy bass line, but occasionally wander into the territories of electro-swing and the like to give even less modern partygoers a chance to show off. The light show as well will stray out of the typical at times, with the expected abstract wheeling and flashing lights giving way to more complicated illusions. Don't be surprised to find yourself and your fellows occasionally dancing in a forest glen or a Rivendell look-alike for a few minutes at a time. Loki is working the tech booth, after all.

The party will go as long as people stay and are enjoying themselves, so have fun and tag around!]

She's out of beer. This is a terrible tragedy at a party, until someone points her in the direction of someone she recognizes from the bar. She usually sits and chats with Buffy, but she's seen him a time or two, ordered drinks from him before. Vageuly remembered Logan complaining about him, but that's nothing unsual.

She saunters in his direction with a curious look and a grin. "Someone pointed me in your direction to see about some alcohol."

At the time, Jack had been hanging back, chilling in a chair as he enjoyed the light show. Mercifully he was sitting far enough away from the speakers that he could actually hear her speaking. He also recognized her as one of the bar regulars. Pity she never came in when he had time to give her proper attention.

Well, no time like the present.

"You were told right, babe. Just a second."

He pulled his briefcase on top of his lap and opened it up. He reached a hand inside it, a bit further than what should even be possible, and began the difficult task of trying to find where he put all the booze.

She eyes the length his arm disappears into the briefcase with an arched eyebrow and a bemused smirk.

"Don't tell me. Someone's actually invented an actual bag of holding."

She wondered if they came in handbag size.

Jack produced a bottle, wet and icy, and set it on the table between them. He fixed her with a curious eyebrow. Jack Horner was many things, but knowledgeable of tabletop games was not one of them.

"Isn't that what bags always do?"

She just looks amused and shakes her head as she reaches for the beer, popping the top off and taking a sip.

"Usually. But I've never seen one deeper on the inside than it looks on the outside. Sounds useful."

"It's terrible for things getting lost in it." Jack closed the briefcase with a click. "A person could get lost in there, if they'd fit in it."

"Well. I suppose that could be useful, too," she mused thoughtfully for a moment as she took another sip of her beer, then gave him a crooked smile.

"I'm not sure we've ever actually met when I wasn't ordering a drink from you. I'm Natasha."

"Jack Horner." He grinned as he set his briefcase back on the ground. "Sad party, isn't it? Luceti never manages a decent party. I had bigger turnouts in my apartment back home."

"I think they did pretty well considering what they had to work with," Natasha counters, letting her gaze skim ruefully over the assembled ravers, her lips quirking up at the corners. "Then again, I'm pretty sure there are more people in my apartment complex back home than Luceti can boast in total, so what can you expect?"
originaljackass: (I'm better than you)

"Shame, isn't it? So much space and they've got so few of us here. And yet they've got all those other enclosures out there."

Jack may not have cared for the situation, but he figured it'd be a bit nicer to share the space with some more people.

"Every night at the bar feels like a rerun of Cheers."

"Few of us, maybe, but they've certainly gathered some... unique individuals." From what she'd seen, she wasn't sure the other enclosures could boast the same. Also wasn't sure if that was to their detriment or benefit.

Still, she chuckles at that reference. "Does that make you Sam?"

"As a matter of fact, they based the character off me."

That was an egregious lie, but as Jack considered the character, he decided that Sam was a certainly less interesting version of himself and that it fit quite well.

She arches an eyebrow at that, eyeing him skeptically, but there's humor in her gaze, her lips curving up at the corners. "Did they now? Well, I have to say, you've aged much more gracefully than Ted Danson."

[personal profile] originaljackass 2013-06-29 07:09 pm (UTC)(link)
"You don't know the half of it." He decided that Ted Danson was still a far more favorable comparison than Tarzan. Old or not. "So, Natasha, do you usually frequent parties like this one?"

"In Luceti? Oh, almost daily," she drawled wryly, a smirk playing around her lips at the question. She hid it behind another drink of beer.

"Back home? Sometimes." An honest answer. Her job took her to a lot of places, high and low. Sometimes she even enjoyed herself. "I traveled a lot. There's usually interesting places to find entertainment when everything is new."
