250mhzwabl: (-you're laughing out loud)

and the bass keeps runnin runnin

Who: Anyone who heard the announcement, caught a flier in the plaza, of heard by word of mouth. Everyone's welcome!
What: A rave! Well, "rave." Luceti makes everything a little different.
When: June 21st, nightfall to early morning
Where: the beach near Adele's house
Summary: It's the first day of summer! This calls for bonfires, naturally, but why not spice it up with loud music, flashing lights, drinks, dancing, and a conspicuous lack of curfew?
Rating: PG to PG-13, please move anything steamier to appointments or Adele will take the hose to you

Getting all the firewood, food, and drink out to the beach had been, honestly, the hardest part of preparation. Whatever else one might say about running things on magic, it certainly did cut down on the trouble of constructing edifices and machines to run the entertainment side of a party. As it stands, the setup is labour-intensive but otherwise minimal, and there's not much to do by sunset. Escape the house before Max and Zevran, the culture-displaced madmen, can put any more eyeliner on him. Arrive at the beach. Light the bonfires. Make sure the bonfire-cooking-compliant food is set out. Put up a table loaded with bottles, cups, ice, and permanent markers. Thank the resident doctor and quartermaster once more. Plug in the stereo system.

The speakers and light show have been with him since he left his house, in the form of the resident god of mischief, and they confer over sheets of paper with track names and times written on them for a little while just before the start. That's the last of it, and by the time the sky above the mountains is beginning to darken into twilight, the first thumping, trilling strains of dance music begin to echo out across the sand.

It's the shortest night of the year. Best make every second last.

[OOC: Feel free to post your character for mingling, since this entire event is very free-form anyway. For everyone's enjoyment there is a drinks table, food, several bonfires, the ocean (lifeguards not on duty, splash drunkenly at your own risk), and of course a dancing area with lights and music. Music will probably be primarily EDM with a heavy bass line, but occasionally wander into the territories of electro-swing and the like to give even less modern partygoers a chance to show off. The light show as well will stray out of the typical at times, with the expected abstract wheeling and flashing lights giving way to more complicated illusions. Don't be surprised to find yourself and your fellows occasionally dancing in a forest glen or a Rivendell look-alike for a few minutes at a time. Loki is working the tech booth, after all.

The party will go as long as people stay and are enjoying themselves, so have fun and tag around!]

"Likewise."

He takes the shake as it is, noting that it's more formal and restrained. So not quite in the same social circle politeness wise.

"Nice to meet you, ma'am." That is said with a genuine smile. He's not sure if she'll prefer her full address or not, but he'll follow her lead if it comes to it.

"Honestly, I'm friends with the lady of the house over there, but I've spoken with Jack before. He seems to be a pretty nice guy."
eversohungry: (was I being insensitive)

"Ah, I see. Well, please pass along my thanks for agreeing to host. I confess this is not the sort of event I am used to, however Eugene and Jack both seem to be in their element and thrilled to be so." Clearly Vastra is of some high-social tendency--thanking the host was a necessary politeness, after all. Even though she didn't know said lady of the house.

"Jack wears his heart on his sleeve. Most likely the impression you have received is accurate to his personality," she says with a quiet laugh.

Very clearly, she is, and Derek will nod as he recognizes the custom.

"I'll be sure to let her know, although the lady in question..." and he'll crane to see over the heads of the revelers, finally spotting that long blonde hair and dark, blousy dress she was wearing this evening, "Is right over there, if you wanted to meet her."

He chuckles a little at her description of Jack.

"Yeah, he's pretty open. As for the music," he shrugs good naturedly, "It's pretty good, for what it is."
eversohungry: (I resent that implication of impropriety)

"For what it is," Vastra raises an eyebrow and chuckles as well. "Not everything can be brilliant of course, and I can appreciate the more shallow nature of it in conjunction with the event. No one is really here to listen to the music, after all."

[personal profile] rather_be_surfing 2013-06-27 01:16 pm (UTC)(link)
"Only as far as the beat goes," Derek agrees, "And for that, it does fine."

"So doyou know a lot of our older customs? Or did your own society come up with something similar? Or both?"
eversohungry: (oh stop it)

[personal profile] eversohungry 2013-06-29 08:10 am (UTC)(link)
"'Older' is a relative term," she says, chuckling a little and raising her eyebrows. "My people did not have anything quite like this, and after I awoke from a long hibernation mankind still did not have anything terribly close to this."

[personal profile] rather_be_surfing 2013-07-01 11:33 am (UTC)(link)
"Fair enough." He smiles back.

"I can't imagine seeing that much time pass, even with a long nap to break it up."
eversohungry: (He was once a hero)

"It has been a trial at times. Things change over sixty-five million years." She sighs heavily, almost as though it were an inconvenience instead of... sixty-five million years.

[personal profile] rather_be_surfing 2013-07-11 12:02 pm (UTC)(link)
...Nope, can't do it. As smart and imaginative as he is, that's a little past what Derek's brain is willing to contemplate. It was like trying to see to the end of the universe when you watched the stars; your brain was willing to go only so far before it would stop and demand to know what you were trying to do to it.

He chuckles, then nods at the other dancers.

"Well, I won't ask you to dance like that," or like he'd been dancing with Adele earlier, "But if you know some classical ballroom, we can always try and see if we can keep up with the music."
eversohungry: (I shant be needing dinner)

[personal profile] eversohungry 2013-07-12 12:16 am (UTC)(link)
Vastra watches the wheels turn and then grind to a halt. Ah, that never got old. It was a terrible thing, maybe, but it wasn't as though she was sixty-five million years old technically speaking.

"I can, in fact, ballroom dance. It's the only style of dance I know actually, which has made all of this all the more foreign." She smiles and offers him her hand. "I am willing to attempt it if you are."

[personal profile] rather_be_surfing 2013-07-14 02:13 pm (UTC)(link)
"Lets give it a shot, then," and he will take her hand in a proper gentlemanly gesture and lead her to the edge of the dance floor, where they're not as likely to get trampled by the jumping, heaving mass of bodies.

Bow, now, take her hand again, lead into the first step.

This dance may not be able to go as stately as usual if they wanted to keep up with the beat.
eversohungry: (an old debt has come due)

Vastra smiles and lets him take her hand. The beat isn’t terribly conducive to the sort of dancing he’s trying to lead her in, but she’s keeping up. Awkwardly, but she’s trying. How could she do otherwise when the person attempting to dance with her is such a gentleman?
