Who: Anyone who heard the announcement, caught a flier in the plaza, of heard by word of mouth. Everyone's welcome!
What: A rave! Well, "rave." Luceti makes everything a little different.
When: June 21st, nightfall to early morning
Where: the beach near Adele's house
Summary: It's the first day of summer! This calls for bonfires, naturally, but why not spice it up with loud music, flashing lights, drinks, dancing, and a conspicuous lack of curfew?
Rating: PG to PG-13, please move anything steamier to appointmentsor Adele will take the hose to you
Getting all the firewood, food, and drink out to the beach had been, honestly, the hardest part of preparation. Whatever else one might say about running things on magic, it certainly did cut down on the trouble of constructing edifices and machines to run the entertainment side of a party. As it stands, the setup is labour-intensive but otherwise minimal, and there's not much to do by sunset. Escape the house before Max and Zevran, the culture-displaced madmen, can put any more eyeliner on him. Arrive at the beach. Light the bonfires. Make sure the bonfire-cooking-compliant food is set out. Put up a table loaded with bottles, cups, ice, and permanent markers. Thank the resident doctor and quartermaster once more. Plug in the stereo system.
The speakers and light show have been with him since he left his house, in the form of the resident god of mischief, and they confer over sheets of paper with track names and times written on them for a little while just before the start. That's the last of it, and by the time the sky above the mountains is beginning to darken into twilight, the first thumping, trilling strains of dance music begin to echo out across the sand.
It's the shortest night of the year. Best make every second last.
[OOC: Feel free to post your character for mingling, since this entire event is very free-form anyway. For everyone's enjoyment there is a drinks table, food, several bonfires, the ocean (lifeguards not on duty, splash drunkenly at your own risk), and of course a dancing area with lights and music. Music will probably be primarily EDM with a heavy bass line, but occasionally wander into the territories of electro-swing and the like to give even less modern partygoers a chance to show off. The light show as well will stray out of the typical at times, with the expected abstract wheeling and flashing lights giving way to more complicated illusions. Don't be surprised to find yourself and your fellows occasionally dancing in a forest glen or a Rivendell look-alike for a few minutes at a time. Loki is working the tech booth, after all.
The party will go as long as people stay and are enjoying themselves, so have fun and tag around!]

Considering the volume of the music, it was perhaps understandable that she didn't notice Loki coming up behind her.

She smiled at the way he swayed to the music and dropped a hand down to cover one of his, "Hey. Havin' fun?"

Part of her was glad he'd sought her out, it meant a lot that he'd left someplace where he was so obviously enjoying himself to come find her. The rest of her wished she could just have been left alone, and maybe there was a part of her that had been considering just walking out into the ocean and not coming back.
"I reckon I could make an exception for you," she allowed, still craning her neck so he could see her lips.

He probably shouldn't, with things a bit strained still between them. He should wait, let her make the move if there was to be one. But it had been quite the night already, and alcohol didn't help his already uncertain impulse control. He kissed her neck, not nearly as artful about it as he normally was.

That was exactly why she hadn't let herself join in - she still couldn't stand to be influenced in any direction, to be anything less than herself. She couldn't risk losing control. It was just too soon.
But she was trying, and so, true her word, Rogue began to tug off her gloves. They were far enough away from everyone that she felt safe in being with him, even though, "You're quite drunk, you know," she said, mimicking his turn of phrase with that same smile.
She wasn't sure how far she'd let them take this, but Rogue wasn't opposed to his initiation. Despite her reservations, Rogue was glad he'd come to her.

I feel rather drunk with you now.
Rogue fumbled slightly as she went to tuck her gloves into her skirt. It wasn't fair; he could make her feel so thick and full so easily, and he was probably only being smooth. He was too smashed and lit for it to be deliberate.
She thought about him dancing. She thought about how easily he moved in and around and with the others. She felt the gap in their experience and expectations keenly. And for a moment, Rogue wished fervently that she was drunk. It would be easier. She wouldn't be feeling all this hesitation then, the voices in her mind would be less distinct, and she'd be able to give him what he wanted.
She hated herself for that thought.
This is who I am.
"Can't have you drowin'," Rogue said with a smile. Her tone was thick, but she wasn't worried; he couldn't hear her. She brought up a bare hand to tangle her fingers in his wind-tossed curls, sliding her other hand briefly over his wrist. "What should I do about it, huh? I don't really wanna leave..."
This was who she was. And maybe it was pretty darn screwed up. But he'd come to her.

"But then what would I do without you?" she said lightly. Rogue was trying so very hard not to let what she was feeling towards herself and how awkward this was sour the mood. She didn't want him to go back there. As much as she'd thought being by herself was better and as drunk as he was, she would still rather he was with her. "And you'll spoil my heroic reputation. Can't let people drown on the job."

Teasingly, she drew her head back and said, "The step stool, I mean."
Then she followed up by moving to kiss him. She didn't try to turn in his arms, Rogue simply leaned up to claim his lips with hers.
