250mhzwabl: (-you're laughing out loud)

and the bass keeps runnin runnin

Who: Anyone who heard the announcement, caught a flier in the plaza, of heard by word of mouth. Everyone's welcome!
What: A rave! Well, "rave." Luceti makes everything a little different.
When: June 21st, nightfall to early morning
Where: the beach near Adele's house
Summary: It's the first day of summer! This calls for bonfires, naturally, but why not spice it up with loud music, flashing lights, drinks, dancing, and a conspicuous lack of curfew?
Rating: PG to PG-13, please move anything steamier to appointments or Adele will take the hose to you

Getting all the firewood, food, and drink out to the beach had been, honestly, the hardest part of preparation. Whatever else one might say about running things on magic, it certainly did cut down on the trouble of constructing edifices and machines to run the entertainment side of a party. As it stands, the setup is labour-intensive but otherwise minimal, and there's not much to do by sunset. Escape the house before Max and Zevran, the culture-displaced madmen, can put any more eyeliner on him. Arrive at the beach. Light the bonfires. Make sure the bonfire-cooking-compliant food is set out. Put up a table loaded with bottles, cups, ice, and permanent markers. Thank the resident doctor and quartermaster once more. Plug in the stereo system.

The speakers and light show have been with him since he left his house, in the form of the resident god of mischief, and they confer over sheets of paper with track names and times written on them for a little while just before the start. That's the last of it, and by the time the sky above the mountains is beginning to darken into twilight, the first thumping, trilling strains of dance music begin to echo out across the sand.

It's the shortest night of the year. Best make every second last.

[OOC: Feel free to post your character for mingling, since this entire event is very free-form anyway. For everyone's enjoyment there is a drinks table, food, several bonfires, the ocean (lifeguards not on duty, splash drunkenly at your own risk), and of course a dancing area with lights and music. Music will probably be primarily EDM with a heavy bass line, but occasionally wander into the territories of electro-swing and the like to give even less modern partygoers a chance to show off. The light show as well will stray out of the typical at times, with the expected abstract wheeling and flashing lights giving way to more complicated illusions. Don't be surprised to find yourself and your fellows occasionally dancing in a forest glen or a Rivendell look-alike for a few minutes at a time. Loki is working the tech booth, after all.

The party will go as long as people stay and are enjoying themselves, so have fun and tag around!]

Max grins and kisses back eagerly before settling his head on Helios's shoulder comfortable. This is pretty nice. Well, really really nice but he is English so god forbid he actually say how awesome it is.

"Sounds really pretty. We just tend to get a lot of rain in winter which is not quite so pretty." And when it does snow, everyone complains. Constantly. "The beach does have the advantage of not requiring us to wear coats and shoes. I kind of resent shoes at the best of times."
folklorist: (I'm just your average headmaster yep)

[personal profile] folklorist 2013-06-25 06:34 pm (UTC)(link)
"Ah, yes well, perhaps if we ever have the chance to do so again I can take you back to my world and we can watch it from the castle. The Malnosso had a way of doing that a few months ago. It was...very nice to go back home at least. We get tons of snow around the grounds usually. It's nice to, um, wake up to and just...breathe in and take in the scenery. I almost forgot how peaceful and lovely Luceti could be, but moments like these always help remind me. The company helps loads as well." Helios wrap his arm around Max as he leans in a bit more.

"I'm glad you had a good time tonight." Boy everyone going to be tired today though.
abjurer: (Grin)

[personal profile] abjurer 2013-06-26 01:27 am (UTC)(link)
That is news to him. He looks up, giving Helios a curious look. "They can do that? I think I'd like that. A perfect winter day in your home. Hot chocolate. A fire." Plenty of time to just curl up together. Yeah, he could live with that.

He grins when Helios leans a bit closer. "I did. I hope it wasn't too boring. Just nice to let loose every now and then. Want to wander off for a while then?"
folklorist: (Yes I do agree with that)

[personal profile] folklorist 2013-06-26 01:58 am (UTC)(link)
"They did it once, yes. It...had some minor repercussions but nothing too serious." Helios' thoughts exactly. He smiles because he knows when he got back Ra would probably be surprised. "I could introduce you to Varron and Ra. Though Ra is a bit...rough around the edges, I'm sure he'd be pleased to know about...us. He-he does worry in his own way. You know how gods can be, never want to truly show their emotions and all that." In his own way the dragon god would be amused and certainly happy, that Helios knew for certain. How he expressed it was another thing entirely.

Helios will blink out of his thoughts and nod, "if you're up for it dear. I-I wouldn't mind that at all." It's nice enough for a walk and they certainly don't have anywhere to be. One of the better things about Luceti is that there was no time constraints.

"Sounds like one of the nicer shifts, although taking you back and then pulling it away... kind of wonder if it was worth it." He wasn't sure how he'd feel, only being able to go back for a day, but visiting someone else's world, yeah, that would be cool. "I'd really like that. Meeting your friends. Mmmm, who would I introduce you to? Brendan maybe. Alex..." He grimaced. "Or not Alex. Let's forget that. We'll just go for tea and... I am rambling now aren't I?" he asked, laughing softly and giving Helios a sheepish look.

He grins though, standin up with a surprisingly fluid movement considering he was fairly drunk by now. He offered Helios a hand up though.
folklorist: (I don't honestly know)

[personal profile] folklorist 2013-06-27 07:38 pm (UTC)(link)
"In some regards it was worth it. But I could understand people being angry for them doing it as well." He had his moments of anger about it too. That brief moment of freedom and homely reminder of a world past this one, their home and families right there next to them, only to have it ripped away again after a day. Helios frowns at the grimace, "who's Alex? If-if you don't mind my asking..." Because it was apparent that whoever it was, wasn't on the best of terms with Max.

"You're not rambling, dear." And even if he was Helios would never say so. He was willing to listen if Max was willing to talk, and Helios wouldn't mind the rambling even if it was the case. He'll let Max help him up with a hand and dust off whatever amount of sand that may be on his person.
abjurer: (Thinking hard)

[personal profile] abjurer 2013-06-27 09:59 pm (UTC)(link)
"Oh, uh... my brother. Older brother. Middle one but Richard's in Japan and married and they're gonna have a kid soon." He rubs the back of his neck, looking a little awkward. "Alex lives in London so I see him kind of regularly. We don't... we don't really get along. He kind of disapproves of my life. Thinks I'm wasting myself."

He huffs softly and grabs Helios's hand, starting to walk towards the surf, feet digging into the sand.
folklorist: (Downcast)

[personal profile] folklorist 2013-06-27 11:42 pm (UTC)(link)
"Ah. I-I see." He frowns looking down at the sand as they walk. He'll gently tighten his grip on Max's hand, his fingers intertwining into the other's.

"It seems like both our older brothers are-are a bit a like in-in some regards." Though Helios prays to the gods that Alex wasn't abusive. He couldn't even begin to think and imagine Max going through what he has when he was younger. He takes in a deep breath of air, ocean, salt, and the light scent of burning wood drift and fill the air. It's a cool evening and perfect for an early morning stroll.
abjurer: (That can't be right...)

[personal profile] abjurer 2013-06-28 08:42 pm (UTC)(link)
Max slows down after a moment, turning a little to smile at Helios. "He's something vaguely important in the government, and Richard is a diplomat. And then there's me running a ridiculous little shop of dubious legality." It sounds kind of ridiculous when he says it like that, and he gives a slightly strained laugh at the thought of it.

He gives Helios a curious look at the mention of his brother, remembering the scars on his arms and what he'd said. "Alex is stuck up and a jerk but he's not... you deserve better, Helios. You deserve so much better."
folklorist: (Oh is that right)

[personal profile] folklorist 2013-06-28 09:07 pm (UTC)(link)
Helios' mouth quirks into an amused smile, "dubious legality aside. You help people and you're certainly better at it than, ah, those fellows who claim to be ghost experts, hm? I don't see anything ridiculous about what you do. I-I think it's rather noble and dangerous to be honest." If he was in Max's world it would no doubt cause infinite worry and stress to hear about.

He frowns and nods the sore point of any conversation was talking about siblings, Nero wasn't something he had mentioned to many here. But there were just enough people who knew. "Oh! Yes of course, I-I know. Nero doesn't...like what I do either. I-I don't think that would ever change with any profession I took up though." He gives a small, if not strained, smile. He'll shrug his shoulders with a short sigh escaping his lips as he does so. His hand gently gripping Max's a little bit harder.

"But I've, ah, certainly found and m-met people here who are better at being a brother to me. It's...been nice to have that." He doesn't want anyone else to have to go through something like that.
abjurer: (Modest)

[personal profile] abjurer 2013-06-29 12:24 am (UTC)(link)
"I do kind of have an unfair advantage when it comes to that," he said with a small smile. "But thanks. Really. I like what I do, mostly just... I know there were things expected of me that I never lived up to." And ah, it sounds so stupid when he puts it like that, when he's talking to Helios. He moves closer, leaning against him a little as they walk.

"I'm glad that you've got people here. Good people. Good friends and family. People who love you."
folklorist: (I suppose that works)

[personal profile] folklorist 2013-06-29 03:16 am (UTC)(link)
"Not everyone can live up to their expectations, Max. The world would be a perfect utopia if that was the case. Besides doing what's expected of you, aside from what you-you truly love makes all the difference, you know?" Helios would. He was expected to become and do so many things and yet he decided to follow his dream and become something else instead.

Helios smiles and gives Max's forehead a light, gentle, kiss. "I'm glad too. I almost...wondered if there was anyone left in my own world who felt that way." To say he was in a bad spot is a bit of an understatement really.

"It's probably stupid of me to even think that, but when something has been ingrained into you for so long that you just...it just becomes all that you know. I almost forgot about the people that truly care about me over the ones against me, that I feel a bit foolish now for it. Luceti's helped and I'm grateful for the people who accepted me and-and my mistakes and haven't judged me for them."

Everyone makes mistakes. Helios has just been taught that his were unacceptable and worse than the rest. But Luceti has been kind and healing towards such thoughts and he's eternally grateful for everyone he's met and learned from.
abjurer: (Happy Smile)

[personal profile] abjurer 2013-06-30 11:48 pm (UTC)(link)
"I guess you're right," Max agrees, smiling at the kiss and sliding his arms around the other man. He pauses just beyond the reach of the surf and stoops to pull of his shoes. They're just light sandals, nothing that he minds losing, he just thinks it would be nice to feel the earth right now, and the sand is warm and soft beneath his feet.

He gives Helios a slightly concerned look at that. "Some things take over, yeah. I know how that is. Kind of." Maybe not quite the same but he'd seen it in Brendan, and he'd felt a fainter flicker of it in himself. "The people here are pretty special, got to say," he replied. "If it weren't for the shifts, it would be pretty perfect." Y'know, without having their heads screwed with constantly. "But the people, they're definitely special."
folklorist: (Oh is that right)

[personal profile] folklorist 2013-07-02 07:21 pm (UTC)(link)
Helios will mimic Max's actions taking his shoes off and smiling after the arm around him settles. "For everything we're put through the people here are some of the most constant factors. You'd think it would be harder...given how some shifts make you act. But it's very nice, and very much needed for a place like this. Everyone has to work together with one another to overcome the Malnosso." He smiles and looks at the crashing waves with kind eyes.

"And s-sometimes what happens in shifts isn't-isn't always that bad. I-I mean...it helped me find something special after all." Which wasn't an understatement, no matter how silly it may sound. Helios gives Max a sheepish look before he laughs. He'll pause to take a deep breath to taste the salty air and feel the still warmed sand beneath his feet. It was invigorating and it reminded him of times long since passed in someways.
abjurer: (Checking you out)

[personal profile] abjurer 2013-07-03 02:34 am (UTC)(link)
"I guess everyone must develop a fairly thick skin for things said and done under the influence of a shift," Max said thoughtfully, dabbling his toes in the approaching water. "I think- if you took offence to everything that happened, then you'd run out of friends pretty quickly." Hell, after what he'd done with Twila, he was kind of surprised that Jack and Eugene and Zevran were still talking to him.

He ducks his head, blushing a little at that, then gives Helios a wry smile. "Yeah. There is that. Guess I can't complain too much if this is the result."
folklorist: (Peaceful: You wanted to talk?)

[personal profile] folklorist 2013-07-03 11:22 pm (UTC)(link)
"You have to in this place. With-with the frequency of the sh-shifts and drafts...I don't know how I would have coped without the support and understanding I've received from the people here." It was true because he's done some terrible things during drafts. He'll look down at the scar on his left palm, the scar showing on both sides of his hand. He'll blink and watch Max with an amused and happy smile.

"I never thought that I-I would...find someone again, especially not here. But you're right. I'm not complaining about the result, not in the least." There's a loving look in his eyes as his gaze moves from Max to the ocean. "I could never complain about something like this."
abjurer: (You are perfect)

[personal profile] abjurer 2013-07-04 12:29 am (UTC)(link)
"No man is an island. That's the saying, right?" he said quietly, digging his toes into the sand. "The people here are far far better than I deserve." And he was so glad for them. That was weird maybe, when they were trapped like lab rats, but... they're good people, good friends.

He pauses for a moment when Helios says that, his expression soft and affectionate as he looks at Helios. He does't reply, but just takes Helios's hand, drawing him a little way into the water next to him.
folklorist: (I don't honestly know)

[personal profile] folklorist 2013-07-04 01:17 am (UTC)(link)
"A good saying for any man or woman. You shouldn't go through life alone. Luceti and the people here taught me that. I-I just wish I was able to keep that knowledge for when I-I go back home." He knows he has backing and people to look after the school and his students should he come to harm. But it was so much easier when people told you it. Helios will blink in mild surprise but his expression softens as he follows Max's lead.

abjurer: (Serious)

[personal profile] abjurer 2013-07-06 02:25 pm (UTC)(link)
That is something that he doesn't want to think about. Going home. Forgetting everything. Sure, some of it had sucked, but some of it had been so so good.

"Well, maybe you'll keep a sense of it at least. You've managed once, so you can manage again. I know you'll make it through everything. You're amazing like that."
folklorist: (Oh is that right)

[personal profile] folklorist 2013-07-07 09:44 pm (UTC)(link)
Helios flushes just a little at those praises. "I-I'm not too amazing. I-I mean there are somethings even magic can't-can't compete against. But perhaps...they'll let us remember, after all of this is over I mean."

Maybe there won't be a need for them to forget or have to have their memories altered and taken away. He'd like to think that to be the case in the future. He'll give Max's hand a gentle squeeze.

"We'll make the best and most of it together, hm?"
abjurer: (Hugs)

[personal profile] abjurer 2013-07-07 10:22 pm (UTC)(link)
"I hope they will," Max replies and it comes out with far more seriousness than he'd intended. Ugh, he should not have drunk so much. It always screws with his head. "I don't want to forget." Even the bad stuff. Even that is something he wants to remember.

He turns a little, feeling the water pull the sand out from beneath his feet and pulls Helios into a fierce hug. "Yeah. You and me."
folklorist: (A well needed hug)

[personal profile] folklorist 2013-07-08 01:33 am (UTC)(link)
"M-Max..." oh dear. That fierce hug makes Helios stumble a little but he can't help but pull away from the other man and just look into the other's blue eyes. He'll smile and give Max a soft, quick, kiss on the cheek.

"Of course. I believe two magicians is-is better than one, don't you?" They'll be fine even with all the odds and ends that Luceti may bring.
abjurer: (Floofy closeup)

[personal profile] abjurer 2013-07-10 12:05 pm (UTC)(link)
He is being ridiculous and he knows it. He just worried sometimes and as great as the party has been, it's the kind of thing that drags out heightened emotions, makes everything sharper and clearer and fiercer. "Absolutely. Two of us together."
folklorist: (Do go on I'm listening)

[personal profile] folklorist 2013-07-12 03:20 am (UTC)(link)
Helios having some notion of alcoholic beverages and moods will give the other man a light kiss to the top of his head.

"It'll be alright Max, I promise." He'll lightly pull away from the other and gently tug him towards some outlying rocks.

"Perhaps we should sit down and watch the sunrise? It's best to clear the atmosphere of such things anyway, hm?" It's too perfect a moment and too picturesque an image to have it sullied by such lingering thoughts.
abjurer: (Because I won't let you die)

[personal profile] abjurer 2013-07-12 12:32 pm (UTC)(link)
He manages a somewhat weak smile but lets himself be tugged over towards the rocks. It's quieter out there, away from the throbbing bass and mass of people dancing and drinking, and the cool air does something help restore his sobriety. "Yeah, yeah that's a good idea," he agrees, curling close to Helios as they walk. It feels nicer than worrying anyway.
