and the bass keeps runnin runnin

Who: Anyone who heard the announcement, caught a flier in the plaza, of heard by word of mouth. Everyone's welcome!
What: A rave! Well, "rave." Luceti makes everything a little different.
When: June 21st, nightfall to early morning
Where: the beach near Adele's house
Summary: It's the first day of summer! This calls for bonfires, naturally, but why not spice it up with loud music, flashing lights, drinks, dancing, and a conspicuous lack of curfew?
Rating: PG to PG-13, please move anything steamier to appointments or Adele will take the hose to you

Getting all the firewood, food, and drink out to the beach had been, honestly, the hardest part of preparation. Whatever else one might say about running things on magic, it certainly did cut down on the trouble of constructing edifices and machines to run the entertainment side of a party. As it stands, the setup is labour-intensive but otherwise minimal, and there's not much to do by sunset. Escape the house before Max and Zevran, the culture-displaced madmen, can put any more eyeliner on him. Arrive at the beach. Light the bonfires. Make sure the bonfire-cooking-compliant food is set out. Put up a table loaded with bottles, cups, ice, and permanent markers. Thank the resident doctor and quartermaster once more. Plug in the stereo system.

The speakers and light show have been with him since he left his house, in the form of the resident god of mischief, and they confer over sheets of paper with track names and times written on them for a little while just before the start. That's the last of it, and by the time the sky above the mountains is beginning to darken into twilight, the first thumping, trilling strains of dance music begin to echo out across the sand.

It's the shortest night of the year. Best make every second last.

[OOC: Feel free to post your character for mingling, since this entire event is very free-form anyway. For everyone's enjoyment there is a drinks table, food, several bonfires, the ocean (lifeguards not on duty, splash drunkenly at your own risk), and of course a dancing area with lights and music. Music will probably be primarily EDM with a heavy bass line, but occasionally wander into the territories of electro-swing and the like to give even less modern partygoers a chance to show off. The light show as well will stray out of the typical at times, with the expected abstract wheeling and flashing lights giving way to more complicated illusions. Don't be surprised to find yourself and your fellows occasionally dancing in a forest glen or a Rivendell look-alike for a few minutes at a time. Loki is working the tech booth, after all.

The party will go as long as people stay and are enjoying themselves, so have fun and tag around!]

[Whens he looked so stricken upon learning his name he backed off a little on the hitting on, giving a rueful smile before going into a slow waltz off step, moving her from some of the more crowded parts of dancing and into something they could converse easily in]

Well, technically it's mine and Max's birthday party-- and I am. Jack's husband that is.

[It was a little obvious how something in his face softened when he spoke of him, called Jack that title-- it was really something, sappy as that sentiment was]

Doesn't mean I can't dance with a cute lady, though. What's that song, it's my birthday and I'll do what I want to-- wait, that's cry, not, do...

I don't know the song, but I can appreciate the sentiment. A-about your birthday! Not about the, ah, compliment. [Elizabeth falls very easily into the waltz, which is a little awkward on sand but she works with it.]

It's a very interesting party! I've never been to one like this.

[...she's never been to a party, actually.]

You've nev--

[He stopped halfway and looked at her, shocked, skeptical, amused, and a little baffled in increments. If she had to choose a party to go to, this rave was like level 99 when she was a level 10. Clearing his throat, he ambled her to a less confined space and released her, just dancing along in front of her]

Well they call this a rave. And you use glow sticks, keep it dark, make it as loud as possible and dance the night away. Simple enough instructions, right? Sometimes you even make out with a complete stranger, but I wouldn't suggest that unless you're into that sort of thing.

'Make out' what? [Elizabeth has the glow sticks and the loud music parts down. But she's unfamiliar with this concept of 'make out'. She has a feeling it doesn't mean what she thinks it means.]
z_jay: (I'm on to your tricks)

[personal profile] z_jay 2013-07-03 02:34 am (UTC)(link)
[This was... not what he expected and he looked momentarily dumbstruck before looking her over, smiling with a certain glee in his eyes.]

Making out, it's slang for kissing someone in a way that most people would consider indecent. Basically the first step to getting laid.

[Which was also slang, but maybe she's catch on with context. Still, he might take a small amount of pleasure in explaining that to her as well. He would blame being drunk on this behavior however.]

[Well, Elizabeth can't quite parse the etymology of the slang 'make out', but given that it's basically indecent kissing Elizabeth can guess what 'getting laid' is a euphemism for. She flushes a little, but maybe Eugene can't tell in the flashing lights.]

Oh! Like ah, that... [She points at a couple who appear to be close to falling over they're kissing so vigorously. They also appear to be at a thirty-degree angle, which seems a little precarious.] No, I don't think I'll be doing that. It's a little too much for me right now...

[At least she was honest, not that he was anywhere near being a decent host now and he cleared his throat, nodding at where she pointed. Even without the flush he could take some social cues to see she was feeling more than a little awkward.]

Y'really don't have to either. Anyone gets fresh with you like that you point me in their direction and I'll give 'em a what-for.

[Mostly it was the drink talking, but he was trying.]

But I also highly recommend going for a swim, too.

A what-four? [Elizabeth can't really hear over the music, but she's assuming that Eugene is offering to pull her out of trouble if someone tries to ah... 'make out' with her against her will. Which is sweet. She smiles bashfully.]

Oh, I couldn't swim! I'm not dressed for it.
z_jay: (I know you're trollin)

[personal profile] z_jay 2013-07-28 07:04 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, you know. If they try to take your glowy things. Which are really cute on you, by the way.

[Typically, his response after that would be a teasing that's why clothes are optional but her bashfulness reminded him of his manners and kept him in check. A monumental achievement, given that he was near as monumentally drunk.]

It's just salt water. You can swim in them. Not asking for a marathon, and home's not far off.

[Elizabeth's eyes go a little wide and she blushes. Eugene really isn't terribly stingy with the compliments, is he?]

Ah... I can get my feet wet! But nothing above my knees! I don't want my boning to rust.
