[The rec center today is colourfully decorated, with posters and directing signs here and there to make this whole process easier. The main floor is peppered with a bunch of tables and chairs pilfered from various locations (primarily the school) with two chairs facing each other per table. There's a couple of bigger tables off to the side, one for food (carrying drinks and various snacks, including Teddy and Ororo's homemade rainbow cookies), and the other with a few chairs and piles of paper everywhere. And a checklist. The checklist is important.

The desk is Billy's, and he's handing sheets of paper out to anyone who comes in and was signed up for the speed dating. Give your name, get a sheet and a name tag, go to the first desk or mingle until it starts- that's what people will be told when they arrive. Teddy's not far from the desk or the door depending on where he's needed, directing people to follow the signs, get comfortable, try some snacks- whatever they want.

Finally a lounge area has been set up with cushy chairs, couches, and the rec center's supply of games and whatnot in the corner. There is a sign for the area that says, "If you find yourself on a turn without a date, come hang out!" It's also got a picture of a weird-looking potato man hanging out, but never mind that.

When everything is ready and people are good to go, Teddy steps up and calls for attention, with Billy sitting on top of the table behind him for moral support (and unhelpful interruptions).]

Hey, guys – Hey! Can everyone hear me? Everyone? [...] Great!

I'm sure everyone knows why they're here. Or, you know, not, since a few of these sign-ups look a little suspicious... [He raises an eyebrow at that, but his smile remains good-natured, and his brow smooths over soon enough.] On behalf of Alliance, welcome to Luceti's very first -

-We think.

- speed dating event! [Though Teddy glances at Billy for that interruption, he'd paused as if he expected it to come.] I'm Teddy, and this is Billy, and we're your hosts today. I'll try to be brief for those of you who just want to get this started already, but let's go over the rules and regulations first.

If you happened to get dragged into this without knowing what you're getting yourself into, it's basically exactly as it sounds. You might remember one of us handing you a list of numbers. Well, when Billy gives the signal, everyone will head to the table with the first number on their list, which will pair you off with someone in the room you just might not have met before! You'll have five minutes to talk to them and get to know them, just enough time for a good – or bad – first impression. After that, one of us will blow the whistle, and you'll go to the next numbered table. And on and on, until it's all over! By then, you might have found someone you're interested in, either as a friend, a potential love interest, or even just someone you really don't want to see again.

To keep track of it all, there's a space beside the number to write down the name of the person you're talking to and anything else you might have learned about them. And maybe by the end, you can write down a no, a yes, or an oh yes.

Try not to be too vague about it and we'll give you your matches at some point in the future.

[Teddy grins after that, a happy and excited one.] Remember, this is all about having fun and meeting new people! If you want to take a break, get bored, or don't have a partner, refreshments are on that side of the room [He gestures to the side, showing off the assorted foods and the cookies that he and Ororo spent a good part of the night baking.], or you can come up and talk to us! We're just the supervisors here, after all.

[He takes a step back after that, his attention going to Billy, his way of telling him to give the signal.] Billy?

[Billy gives a small wave, remaining on his table. Teddy did the hard part, after all.] There's a lounge, too, if we're not interesting enough. You might meet somebody there you're not paired with and find a new friend, so give it a shot.

That's pretty much it, so everyone can go on and head to your first table, and we'll blow the whistle in one minute. Thanks for coming, and try to have fun!

[ In between turns (it's good she doesn't have too many!), Ororo wanders over to the MC table, looking like she didn't just spend half the night baking cookies with Teddy. ]

I think congratulations are in order. This is looking like a successfully organized event.

[They'd had their heads close to each other and whispering something when Ororo came up, and Teddy's the first to notice and pull back to smile up at her. Don't they just look professional, with clipboards that have everyone's names and who's paired off and a ticking timer and everything?]

Thanks. Billy did pretty much all of the organizing, so it all goes to him. [He leans over to nudge shoulders with Billy, a secretly proud smile on his face.]

And you look great, Ororo. [Not like she stayed up nearly the whole night with him at all.]

[ Ororo chuckles, pleased at Teddy's compliment and how they both seemed to be in good spirits today. They do look like they tried very hard to look professional! And that's rather cute. ]

Thank you. I wanted to look my best; you never know who you might meet at one of these things, after all.

[Billy had been in the middle of working through a bit of organizational mess - apparently someone had been sorted wrong so he's fixing it, notes and sign-ups scattered around him and clicking away on a laptop - so he takes a moment to look up.]

Sorry, sorry- hey, Ororo. Wow, that is some dress. You look like a queen.

[...He couldn't resist.]

[Teddy will just take the time to organize some of that mess around the table and actually make things look neat. Bit of a perfectionist and all.]

Yeah, if you don't meet someone out of all this who'd treat you like the queen you are, I'd be surprised.

[... He couldn't resist either. And hey, he's being genuine, too.]

[ Oh gosh you two, way to lay on the charm. Ororo bows her head, hiding the dusky blush on her cheeks as she fights a persistent smile. ]

Flatterers, the both of you. [ She tries to give them both an accusing glare, and utterly fails. ]

How are things looking from your end? No trouble, I hope.

No trouble. Not that we were really expecting any. Were we? [He glances at Teddy, then shakes his head.] Um. Probably not, anyway.

Hi, Billy...

[ claire greets the young man she met briefly at the plaza when she signed up -- but still spares a smile for the other guy next to him. ] Quite the set-up you have, here.

[Billy waves at Claire as she approaches, giving Teddy a light elbow under the table to draw his attention. Hey, boyfriend, this is the woman he mentioned...]

Hey, Claire. What do you think? Are you excited yet?

[Teddy had been doing a bit of work himself, looking at everyone and crossing out certain names as they pair themselves off, trying to ensure that everyone is going where they're supposed to - or, even if they're not, that they at least have something to do. The touch makes him glace at Billy, and then up -

OH MY GOD IT'S CLAIRE REDFIELD.

It's only the woman Teddy fanboyed to Billy about behind closed doors, one of his favorite female video game protagonists and -

So don't mind him staring a bit dumbly for a second.]

Uh... [And then he blinks before he grins.] Yeah. What he said.

Truth be told -- [ she senses something on the part of the other guy, but has no reason to suspect that she herself is the root of the reaction. ] ] -- I think I'm starting to get a little nervous. I didn't expect to be.

[ hmm. ] The good kind of nervous, I promise. [ she turns to the second young man. ] You must be Teddy...? [ she holds out a hand. ] It's a pleasure to meet you.

[Billy just smiles and practically chinhands this- he's been there enough times since his arrival in Luceti to sympathize, but it's still fun to watch in other people. He'd been kind of waiting for this to happen.]

Most other people are nervous too, so no worries.

[touchofrogue]

The event was underway! Everyone was having a grand old time! Which meant now was the perfect opportunity for Rogue to sneak in, drop off some pie, make sure no one had killed her boyfriend or vice versa, and then quietly leave.

Nope. Nothing to see here.

Ohhh no, girlfriend, you are not escaping that easily. Billy had just blown the whistle for the next round to start, so he has absolutely nothing to do for the next five minutes. Spotting her by the table, he waves and heads over with a grin. "Hey, Rogue! Are you trying to sneak off?"

[touchofrogue]

"Who, me? Nah," she smiled at Billy. "I'd be much better at if I was tryin'. Having fun?"

Quick! Ask a question to divert attention. You saw no pie. She is not the droid you're looking for.

But it looks so tasty, he really wants to give it some attention...

"It's been more fun than I expected, actually. And since I at least expected a good time, it's a pleasant surprise." He grins at her, his gaze going back to the pie. "I didn't expect to see you here, so we'll call that pleasant surprise #2."

[touchofrogue]

"Just checkin' in," she said. "Thought I'd see how everythin' was going."

"Not keeping an eye on your studly boyfriend's socializing? He's got an awful lot of names on his list."

He teases, of course- obviously Loki knows better.

[...did Billy really just say 'studly?'

This is the sound of Rogue laughing. She actually has to bring up a gloved hand to cover her giggles.]

[He actually feels kind of victorious for that one.]

Not accurate, you think?

[touchofrogue]

Oh no you don't, Kaplan. [Echoes of her laughter remain in her voice.] It's not that easy. But I will say, it's not the first adjective that comes ta mind when I think about my boyfriend.

Ooh, so you like him only for his brain? Poor guy. I'm telling him you said that.

[He probably won't. But he could. You know. Theoretically.]

[touchofrogue]

[Rogue doesn't feel intimidated; she thinks Loki would get a kick out of that. But this does open up an interesting line of conversation.

She crosses her arms and smirks.]

Then I'm tellin' him you only like him for his body.

[Pffft.]

If you're gonna do that, you may as well be specific about it. Tell him to stop wearing so many stupidly long robes and show off that butt.
