Speed Dating

Who: Anyone who wants/is forced to come
What: Speed Dating!
When: Saturday at a vaguely-afternoonish time period
Where: The Rec Center
Summary: Details here, Roster here!
Rating: PG/13/T/R/god I don't know there's too many people

[The rec center today is colourfully decorated, with posters and directing signs here and there to make this whole process easier. The main floor is peppered with a bunch of tables and chairs pilfered from various locations (primarily the school) with two chairs facing each other per table. There's a couple of bigger tables off to the side, one for food (carrying drinks and various snacks, including Teddy and Ororo's homemade rainbow cookies), and the other with a few chairs and piles of paper everywhere. And a checklist. The checklist is important.

The desk is Billy's, and he's handing sheets of paper out to anyone who comes in and was signed up for the speed dating. Give your name, get a sheet and a name tag, go to the first desk or mingle until it starts- that's what people will be told when they arrive. Teddy's not far from the desk or the door depending on where he's needed, directing people to follow the signs, get comfortable, try some snacks- whatever they want.

Finally a lounge area has been set up with cushy chairs, couches, and the rec center's supply of games and whatnot in the corner. There is a sign for the area that says, "If you find yourself on a turn without a date, come hang out!" It's also got a picture of a weird-looking potato man hanging out, but never mind that.

When everything is ready and people are good to go, Teddy steps up and calls for attention, with Billy sitting on top of the table behind him for moral support (and unhelpful interruptions).]

Hey, guys – Hey! Can everyone hear me? Everyone? [...] Great!

I'm sure everyone knows why they're here. Or, you know, not, since a few of these sign-ups look a little suspicious...
[He raises an eyebrow at that, but his smile remains good-natured, and his brow smooths over soon enough.] On behalf of Alliance, welcome to Luceti's very first -

-We think.

- speed dating event! [Though Teddy glances at Billy for that interruption, he'd paused as if he expected it to come.] I'm Teddy, and this is Billy, and we're your hosts today. I'll try to be brief for those of you who just want to get this started already, but let's go over the rules and regulations first.

If you happened to get dragged into this without knowing what you're getting yourself into, it's basically exactly as it sounds. You might remember one of us handing you a list of numbers. Well, when Billy gives the signal, everyone will head to the table with the first number on their list, which will pair you off with someone in the room you just might not have met before! You'll have five minutes to talk to them and get to know them, just enough time for a good – or bad – first impression. After that, one of us will blow the whistle, and you'll go to the next numbered table. And on and on, until it's all over! By then, you might have found someone you're interested in, either as a friend, a potential love interest, or even just someone you really don't want to see again.

To keep track of it all, there's a space beside the number to write down the name of the person you're talking to and anything else you might have learned about them. And maybe by the end, you can write down a no, a yes, or an oh yes.

Try not to be too vague about it and we'll give you your matches at some point in the future.

[Teddy grins after that, a happy and excited one.] Remember, this is all about having fun and meeting new people! If you want to take a break, get bored, or don't have a partner, refreshments are on that side of the room [He gestures to the side, showing off the assorted foods and the cookies that he and Ororo spent a good part of the night baking.], or you can come up and talk to us! We're just the supervisors here, after all.

[He takes a step back after that, his attention going to Billy, his way of telling him to give the signal.] Billy?

[Billy gives a small wave, remaining on his table. Teddy did the hard part, after all.] There's a lounge, too, if we're not interesting enough. You might meet somebody there you're not paired with and find a new friend, so give it a shot.

That's pretty much it, so everyone can go on and head to your first table, and we'll blow the whistle in one minute. Thanks for coming, and try to have fun!

(( ooc: directions are as follows:

1) check your roster
2) make a top thread for your character with their name in the subject line
3) tag and be tagged
4) THERE IS NO QUESTION MARK ONLY PROFIT ))

~*~Romance~*~ or more likely friendship | Fenimore

[personal profile] blessingone 2013-06-23 03:24 am (UTC)(link)
Shouldn't you have finished that up at home?

[So she probably should have started with introducing herself, but that came out instead. At least she's smiling as she says it? And her tone is a friendly one, not a critical one. In the meantime, she slides herself into the chair opposite.]
hero_of_smiles: (I'd rather not)

Feinmore, my gosh you're a cradle robber! /shot

[personal profile] hero_of_smiles 2013-06-23 05:56 pm (UTC)(link)
[The comment makes him look instantly and well...it's enough to embarrass him. She said and looked nice while she said it, but...]

I sort of...only found out last minute I was on this thing. Didn't get much time to comb my hair, not like it stays neat for long anyways.
blessingone: (show me how pretty the world is)

Hey, blame the sign-upper for being vague on the age category, not her! =P

[personal profile] blessingone 2013-06-24 06:08 am (UTC)(link)
[It's possibly a bit mean, but she's amused and not doing a particularly good job at hiding it.]

Do you want some help with that? I brought a comb with me in case of hair-related emergencies of my own. I could at least make it behave in time for anyone you might be meeting later.
hero_of_smiles: (chin hands)

I tease.

[personal profile] hero_of_smiles 2013-06-24 04:03 pm (UTC)(link)
Um, well, I-...wouldn't that be a bit rude? I mean, you combing my hair so I look decent for everyone else, but you?

[It seems rude and oh god he doesn't want to be rude. Rude costs friends.]
blessingone: (I'll be awful sometimes)

How old is he, anyway?

[personal profile] blessingone 2013-06-24 10:01 pm (UTC)(link)
Maybe, but I was the one who offered. And, besides, if you don't get your hair fixed somehow, you're not going to be looking decent for me, either. Just stay there. I'll get it.

[Without waiting for an actual confirmation, she takes a comb out from her purse-like bag that, under normal circumstances, usually just holds her journal and stands to go stand behind him. How hard can it be to get his hair back into shape in a few minutes? ...Naïvely thinks the person with generally well-behaved hair.]
hero_of_smiles: (Please?)

15, I'm assuming Fenimore is like 20 since she's been here for awhile?

[personal profile] hero_of_smiles 2013-06-24 10:06 pm (UTC)(link)
I-uh-well...

[Annnnd she's already getting her comb out. He's not going to object cause already feels like a total dip for not being able to form a sentence to her argument. In the end, he gives up and he'll just let her go to work. She may find that her comb might get stuck sometimes.]

All right...thanks.

[Better make conversation so he doesn't seem like he's being selfish or something.]

So, uh, what's your name? I'm Cross by the way.
blessingone: (now rumour has it)

19, but you sure were right about that cradle it seems.

[personal profile] blessingone 2013-06-25 02:40 am (UTC)(link)
My name is Fenimore. It's nice to meet you.

[Wow, this hair situation is worse than she thought. But she will be gentle and try not to pull too hard when she gets caught in tangles, at least for now. Meanwhile:]

So, Cross, tell me about yourself. Where do you come from?

[...This is starting to feel more like she's a hairdresser than a speed date partner, really....]
hero_of_smiles: (Huh?)

Apparently so.

[personal profile] hero_of_smiles 2013-06-25 03:12 am (UTC)(link)
[And he's becoming even more awkward at the apparent hairdresser/customer dynamic going on. He's really going to have to make it up to this person later.

He tries to cringe or shift or move at all as she combs though. It stings but he's had worse.]

Okay, Fenimore.

Well, I'm from a world called Earth. But, if you want specifics...I kind of live between two countries.

What about you?

blessingone: (we've been sitting here for hours)

And yet she's got her hands all over him, scandalous.

[personal profile] blessingone 2013-06-25 11:50 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm from a village on Melfes. Though I guess you mightn't have heard of it; there aren't as many people here from there as there seem to be on Earth. [...Talking about different worlds is still pretty weird.]

How do you live between countries, anyway?
hero_of_smiles: (Thinking)

the newspapers will have a field day

[personal profile] hero_of_smiles 2013-06-27 05:08 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeaaaah, never heard of it. What's it like though?

[It's interesting to know what other places are like, but, still definitely a strange topic.]

Um, very quietly? It's really weird where I'm from.
blessingone: (we've been sitting here for hours)

scandal!

[personal profile] blessingone 2013-06-28 03:55 am (UTC)(link)
It's -- well, I don't really know enough about Earth to know how to compare them. Or...I guess not enough about the rest of Melfes, either. I spent most of my life in a village a little smaller than this one not far from the coast, so I haven't seen much of the rest of the world. The only other place I've been is the Legacy. It's...um, a ship, but it looks like an island. It's got its own forests, mountains, a few villages of its own...but it's still a ship.

[Good grief, how can hair this short be this tangled? She pulls on one of the tangles a bit hard, but realizes that probably would hurt, so she returns to being gentle.]

How is it weird?
hero_of_smiles: (What'd you say?)

[personal profile] hero_of_smiles 2013-06-29 02:39 am (UTC)(link)
The coast? So, you lived by the ocean. And this Legacy...sounds kind of tricked out if it's a ship with trees and stuff on it.

[Ow, ow, ow. Is this her taking revenge on his head?]

Er, okay. So, the reason why it's weird is because one country is hidden from the other. One doesn't know about the other while the other does. Do you get it?

blessingone: (this current moves slow for me)

[personal profile] blessingone 2013-07-06 04:49 am (UTC)(link)
[What means this "tricked out?"] Um, yeah. For both of those.

[She's trying not to be taking revenge! But his hair is such a mess.]

I...actually, I don't really get it. Maybe I just don't know enough about countries.
hero_of_smiles: (I really rather not)

[personal profile] hero_of_smiles 2013-07-06 06:22 pm (UTC)(link)
Trust me, even I don't really get it. It's probably got nothing to do with knowing about countries. More like, magic and stuff.
blessingone: (like you could save me)

[personal profile] blessingone 2013-07-24 12:59 am (UTC)(link)
Oh. I guess that would be hard to explain to anyone from a world without magic.

[Her world only has living oceans as gods who grant people the ability to shoot fire from their fingertips. And people like herself who can project their soul as a physical being and whose hair glows when they breathe underwater. And a ship the size of an island that moves by the will of a woman born with the ability to communicate with the sea. But no magic.]

Or, well, at least different magic. I guess some people might call a few things in my world magic, but I've never thought of it like that.
hero_of_smiles: (I'll keep on smiling)

[personal profile] hero_of_smiles 2013-07-30 03:02 pm (UTC)(link)
Even I don't get half the mechanics of the magic where I'm from.

[Also darn those ocean gods, giving people magic powers and stuff.]

Iiiiin any case, what kind of stuff are you into?
blessingone: (I'll be awful sometimes)

[personal profile] blessingone 2013-08-21 12:24 am (UTC)(link)
[She nearly asks, but she realizes that someone who only partially understands something complicated explaining it to someone who has no idea about it would be a bad plan. She'll let the subject of magic drop for now.]

Well...I like to swim, when I get the chance. I do some beadwork, sometimes. I guess I'm a little busy to work on my hobbies lately. [Deciding that she's done as much as she can to fix his hair -- though it is certainly been a tough case -- she returns her comb to her bag. Her voice takes on a bit of a joking tone.] Maybe I should take up hairdressing someday.

[As she returns to her seat, though, she continues:] What about you? What are you into?
