[The rec center today is colourfully decorated, with posters and directing signs here and there to make this whole process easier. The main floor is peppered with a bunch of tables and chairs pilfered from various locations (primarily the school) with two chairs facing each other per table. There's a couple of bigger tables off to the side, one for food (carrying drinks and various snacks, including Teddy and Ororo's homemade rainbow cookies), and the other with a few chairs and piles of paper everywhere. And a checklist. The checklist is important.

The desk is Billy's, and he's handing sheets of paper out to anyone who comes in and was signed up for the speed dating. Give your name, get a sheet and a name tag, go to the first desk or mingle until it starts- that's what people will be told when they arrive. Teddy's not far from the desk or the door depending on where he's needed, directing people to follow the signs, get comfortable, try some snacks- whatever they want.

Finally a lounge area has been set up with cushy chairs, couches, and the rec center's supply of games and whatnot in the corner. There is a sign for the area that says, "If you find yourself on a turn without a date, come hang out!" It's also got a picture of a weird-looking potato man hanging out, but never mind that.

When everything is ready and people are good to go, Teddy steps up and calls for attention, with Billy sitting on top of the table behind him for moral support (and unhelpful interruptions).]

Hey, guys – Hey! Can everyone hear me? Everyone? [...] Great!

I'm sure everyone knows why they're here. Or, you know, not, since a few of these sign-ups look a little suspicious... [He raises an eyebrow at that, but his smile remains good-natured, and his brow smooths over soon enough.] On behalf of Alliance, welcome to Luceti's very first -

-We think.

- speed dating event! [Though Teddy glances at Billy for that interruption, he'd paused as if he expected it to come.] I'm Teddy, and this is Billy, and we're your hosts today. I'll try to be brief for those of you who just want to get this started already, but let's go over the rules and regulations first.

If you happened to get dragged into this without knowing what you're getting yourself into, it's basically exactly as it sounds. You might remember one of us handing you a list of numbers. Well, when Billy gives the signal, everyone will head to the table with the first number on their list, which will pair you off with someone in the room you just might not have met before! You'll have five minutes to talk to them and get to know them, just enough time for a good – or bad – first impression. After that, one of us will blow the whistle, and you'll go to the next numbered table. And on and on, until it's all over! By then, you might have found someone you're interested in, either as a friend, a potential love interest, or even just someone you really don't want to see again.

To keep track of it all, there's a space beside the number to write down the name of the person you're talking to and anything else you might have learned about them. And maybe by the end, you can write down a no, a yes, or an oh yes.

Try not to be too vague about it and we'll give you your matches at some point in the future.

[Teddy grins after that, a happy and excited one.] Remember, this is all about having fun and meeting new people! If you want to take a break, get bored, or don't have a partner, refreshments are on that side of the room [He gestures to the side, showing off the assorted foods and the cookies that he and Ororo spent a good part of the night baking.], or you can come up and talk to us! We're just the supervisors here, after all.

[He takes a step back after that, his attention going to Billy, his way of telling him to give the signal.] Billy?

[Billy gives a small wave, remaining on his table. Teddy did the hard part, after all.] There's a lounge, too, if we're not interesting enough. You might meet somebody there you're not paired with and find a new friend, so give it a shot.

That's pretty much it, so everyone can go on and head to your first table, and we'll blow the whistle in one minute. Thanks for coming, and try to have fun!

[Things have been quiet in Luceti lately. Too quiet for Gai's liking, and with Morrigan now gone, he's short one source of fun, which is the whole reason he signed up for this in the first place.

Although the longer he spends here, the more he's getting the feeling that most of the people here aren't exactly in it for the same thing he is. Romance is definitely not his thing; all he's looking for is a girl who wants to have a bit of fun, no strings attached.

... he's probably not going to have much luck with that given the people he's been paired with.]

[Perhaps Shiemi isn't looking for romance either, yet her intentions still may not match Gai's. Quickly she hurries into a chair across from Gai, with a cookie sticking out of her mouth from the refreshment table. She smiles, gives him an apologetic wave, and begins to introduce herself.]

Hello, my name is Shiemi Moriyama. I've been here a few months under two years, and back home I was training to become an exorcist. It's nice to meet you!

[Is... this how you're supposed to do it? Being stuck in your house for most of your life due to poor health doesn't really lend well to knowing how to "speed date." Or date at all, really. Nervously Shiemi brushes the crumbs from her cookie off of her tuxedo while she waits for Gai's response.]

[Gai smiles right back at Shiemi as she sits down, sizing her up before he speaks. She's definitely cute and enthusiastic (and that tuxedo is a nice touch; it's unconventional but it suits her rather well), but she also seems very... well. Innocent. Too innocent.]

I'm Gai Tsutsugami. I've been here for just over a year, and I'm also from Japan, though I'm not anything near as interesting as an exorcist-in-training.

[Mentioning that one is considered a terrorist leader back in one's world generally isn't the best way to make a good first impression.]

I'm sure there's something just as interesting about you!

[She munches on her cookie to encourage him to speak more about himself.]

I've been on television several times. You could say I'm something of a local celebrity where I come from.

[Technically, it's true. Funeral Parlor was all over the news for a while there.]

[Shiemi's eyes grow wide, and her mouth forms an 'o' as she stars at him.]

Don't tell me exorcists and exorcists-in-training aren't famous in your world too. I can't believe that a profession like that wouldn't attract a considerable amount of attention.

[Most likely better attention than the type he receives, but details.]

Most people who aren't exorcists don't really know demons exist, so it's not like they can be world famous outside of being religious figures. But some can hold very respected positions of power!

Keeping those things quiet, huh? Can't blame you there. Most people probably wouldn't take too well to hearing that demons are real.

[But his tone is casual-- obviously it doesn't bother him.]

[Alas, poor Gai. A fruitless evening lies ahead. Have one more girl here for a bit of fun with an entirely different definition of what that fun entails. Which is too bad: she quite likes his hair.

In addition to the hair appreciation, though, a first glance gives her the mistaken impression that he is older than her. Not only older, but cool, calm, and collected. That's a little intimidating, so she concentrates on making a good first impression. Keep it simple, speak with confidence. She pulls out the chair opposite his.]

Hello! My name is Fenimore. It's nice to -- [And then she disappears from sight as she sits down too close to the edge of the seat and it overturns on her. Down she goes.]

[Gai is sort of starting to get the sense that his idea of fun doesn't really mesh with everyone else's-- a shame, really, because a lot of the girls here ARE quite cute, and should any of them express interest, he isn't about to turn them down.

But so far they've all been so... innocent. Oh, he could probably have charmed one or two of them into something, but that would just make him feel wrong. So he's sort of shelved the idea of anything going anywhere tonight and is just going to chat and be polite, because getting to know people never hurts. Information sources are information sources, after all.

... and then Fenimore tries to sit down and failure happens. Well. She gets points for making the biggest impression on him so far. It's just not the most positive impression, but details.

He'll just sit there quietly to let her right herself and spare her any further embarrassment from this.]

[There's a rattling sound as the chair is returned to its place, and then a hand reaches over the top of the table as Fenimore pulls herself up, looking rather red. She attempts to pretend that she is not mortified, but her expression gives that away.

She is much more careful in sitting down this time.]

Same to you. You're in luck-- you've made the biggest impression on me yet.

[Okay, so it's more of a "that was extremely entertaining" impression, but details. He's definitely going to remember the girl who fell out of her chair, if nothing else. He will be polite and not laugh at her, however, despite how entertaining that was.]

[She does appreciate his restraint (she probably wouldn't have been able to resist laughing in the same situation), but she manages to turn even redder.]

That really wasn't the impression I was trying to give, though. ...I couldn't get you to just forget about it, could I?

I'll think about it, but it was on the charming side.

[Still grinning, he offers his hand for a shake.]

I'm Gai. I think we've already covered the "nice to meet you" part.

[That wasn't the kind of charm she was aiming for! She wanted to seem mature and collected (which she kind of isn't), not...klutzy. But she'll accept the handshake instead of commenting on that.]

Yeah. Extensively, I think. So...I guess the next step is to ask you something, like...where are you from?

[voidseeing]

[At this point, whatever impression she makes on Gai will be sort of a moot point, as he's pretty much ruled her out as a potential date. Doesn't mean he can't chat her up and get to know more about her, though, because learning more about the different people here in Luceti is always useful.]

[Even if she never sees him again, she doesn't want to leave this particular impression. Then again, it could be worse if there had been a chance anyway.]

It seems to be. I think you're the...fifth person even from Japan I've talked to this evening alone.

My...world isn't so common, I guess. I'm from Melfes, [the year is obscured by a suddenly loud conversation the next table over]. I...guess you could say I'm from the Legacy, though I grew up in a village on the mainland.

[voidseeing]

The Legacy, huh? Is that some kind of island?

[He'd spent time on an island in his childhood, so that's his first thought, especially given that she mentions the "mainland."]

Maybe this place just likes people who come from islands.

[She grins a little at the suggestion of an island preference. It seems like a silly idea -- though honestly she mightn't be entirely surprised if it were true.]

Maybe it does. Though...I'm not sure if the Legacy would actually count. It looks like an island, but it's actually a ship. A really big one.

[Definitely not with Cloche, that's for sure! At least... she's looking vaguely cute, right? But he looks like he's a little older, so that nudges her into the territory of slightly more nervous than she should be. Hopefully she makes a good impression, even if she looks a little more focused than natural. Whoops.]

[Definitely cute, and Gai appreciates the effort she's put into it. The thigh-highs are a bonus, too. He's cautiously optimistic about this one if only for the fact that she doesn't look quite as innocent or naive as the girls he's talked to up until now

Only one way to find out whether that's really the case or not, though.]

[That loosened things up a little, enough for her to finally take her seat and slack off on staying focused.]
