[The rec center today is colourfully decorated, with posters and directing signs here and there to make this whole process easier. The main floor is peppered with a bunch of tables and chairs pilfered from various locations (primarily the school) with two chairs facing each other per table. There's a couple of bigger tables off to the side, one for food (carrying drinks and various snacks, including Teddy and Ororo's homemade rainbow cookies), and the other with a few chairs and piles of paper everywhere. And a checklist. The checklist is important.

The desk is Billy's, and he's handing sheets of paper out to anyone who comes in and was signed up for the speed dating. Give your name, get a sheet and a name tag, go to the first desk or mingle until it starts- that's what people will be told when they arrive. Teddy's not far from the desk or the door depending on where he's needed, directing people to follow the signs, get comfortable, try some snacks- whatever they want.

Finally a lounge area has been set up with cushy chairs, couches, and the rec center's supply of games and whatnot in the corner. There is a sign for the area that says, "If you find yourself on a turn without a date, come hang out!" It's also got a picture of a weird-looking potato man hanging out, but never mind that.

When everything is ready and people are good to go, Teddy steps up and calls for attention, with Billy sitting on top of the table behind him for moral support (and unhelpful interruptions).]

Hey, guys – Hey! Can everyone hear me? Everyone? [...] Great!

I'm sure everyone knows why they're here. Or, you know, not, since a few of these sign-ups look a little suspicious... [He raises an eyebrow at that, but his smile remains good-natured, and his brow smooths over soon enough.] On behalf of Alliance, welcome to Luceti's very first -

-We think.

- speed dating event! [Though Teddy glances at Billy for that interruption, he'd paused as if he expected it to come.] I'm Teddy, and this is Billy, and we're your hosts today. I'll try to be brief for those of you who just want to get this started already, but let's go over the rules and regulations first.

If you happened to get dragged into this without knowing what you're getting yourself into, it's basically exactly as it sounds. You might remember one of us handing you a list of numbers. Well, when Billy gives the signal, everyone will head to the table with the first number on their list, which will pair you off with someone in the room you just might not have met before! You'll have five minutes to talk to them and get to know them, just enough time for a good – or bad – first impression. After that, one of us will blow the whistle, and you'll go to the next numbered table. And on and on, until it's all over! By then, you might have found someone you're interested in, either as a friend, a potential love interest, or even just someone you really don't want to see again.

To keep track of it all, there's a space beside the number to write down the name of the person you're talking to and anything else you might have learned about them. And maybe by the end, you can write down a no, a yes, or an oh yes.

Try not to be too vague about it and we'll give you your matches at some point in the future.

[Teddy grins after that, a happy and excited one.] Remember, this is all about having fun and meeting new people! If you want to take a break, get bored, or don't have a partner, refreshments are on that side of the room [He gestures to the side, showing off the assorted foods and the cookies that he and Ororo spent a good part of the night baking.], or you can come up and talk to us! We're just the supervisors here, after all.

[He takes a step back after that, his attention going to Billy, his way of telling him to give the signal.] Billy?

[Billy gives a small wave, remaining on his table. Teddy did the hard part, after all.] There's a lounge, too, if we're not interesting enough. You might meet somebody there you're not paired with and find a new friend, so give it a shot.

That's pretty much it, so everyone can go on and head to your first table, and we'll blow the whistle in one minute. Thanks for coming, and try to have fun!

[Crys isn't usually one for socializing, but at least she's getting more relaxed as she meets more people. And she remembers people might be as nervous as she is But when Rin sits down across from her, she smiles, holding her hand out for a shake.] You must be Rin. I'm Crystal, it's nice to meet you.

[-- At least she doesn't seem to be a difficult girl. He smiles back, still a little flushed, and takes the hand shake. Not his normal custom but hey, you get used to these things in Luceti. As he perks up, his voice does get a bit more confident]

Yeah, that's right. Rin Okumura. Nice to meet you too.

[Well, at least he's polite, that's definitely a plus. She scratches one of her cheeks with a finger a little sheepishly, and a little bit of nervousness seeps into her voice.] I should probably tell you in advance... I'm not exactly looking for a date. I'm really just here to meet new friends. I hope that's okay?

[rashness]

-Ain't this in a romance section though? [He blurts this out before he can stop himself, and immediately regrets it. He shakes his head and follows up, almost immediately, with-] But err- I mean, that's not problem. I kinda got signed up by my housemate thinkin' I had to go make some more friends too and... here I am.

[kickingcatcher]

Y-Yeah, but I didn't want to be rude and wind up leaving people with no partner. [But when she hears what happened to Rin, there's an exasperated sigh as her smile fades.] Ugh, that's exactly what happened to me. My friend signed me up without even asking, and I figured I should at least give it a shot. So far, it's been fun.

[rashness]

Shiemi really didn't ask for me, but I was so surprised I figured I gotta. I mean, she's usually way shier than this, so I don't know what got her so pumped.

[Or maybe he was reading into it too much. He smiles as his says this, glad that at least someone else understands how awkward it is to be drafted into this]

[Well, there's a familiar name that definitely makes her perk up a bit.] You know Shiemi, too?

[rashness]

'Course I do! She's the one who signed me up, after all. You know 'er too?

[kickingcatcher]

Yeah! She's one of my juniors. See, I'm a Pokemon trainer, and one of my friends was helping her with training her Skarmory.

[rashness]

[Junior? Is this girl distinctly older than the---m oh, okay] So you're Silver's pal. [Oh wait, now he thinks of it, she was the one who said Silver went home, her recognizes her voice. Probably saw her at that trainer day he went to, even if he was really only there for Shiemi's sake]

'Course you are, that was a dumb question. 'M sorry to bring that up.

[kickingcatcher]

Yep. We're good friends. [Helped save the world and all, kinda hard not to like people after that. She smiles warmly at him, to show it's not as big of a problem as he thinks it to be.] No, no, it's all right. He might be back home, but it's not like I'll burst into tears every time I'm reminded of that. Sure, it kinda sucks, but I'm not going to let it keep me down.

[rashness]

Good, good. I just know I wouldn't wanna talk about how my brother used to be here, for example.

[...Which is a terrible conversation. So uh, uh - oh] So uh- you know about how we're exorcists?

[His tail curls behind him. That was a lame topic]

[She hopes you don't mind that she doesn't reply to that first part.] I think Shiemi might've mentioned it, but I never got many details on it.

[rashness]

[If anything, he's grateful. But he nods, nodding back to the sword-in-scabbard at his side. He couldn't not bring Kurikara, to be safe]

Well in our world, there's actually two worlds - one of 'em's Assiah, the one humans and all the normal things live on, and one's Gehenna, where demons are from. But demons keep wanting to come in Assiah - sometimes it's cool, but a lot of the time they've causin' problems for people. And that's where exorcists came in.

[kickingcatcher]

You take care of the troublemakers. [Wow, it never fails to amaze her as to what kinds of people are in Luceti.] So it's like you're law enforcement for demons.

[rashness]

I dunno how much like law it is, but pretty much, yeah! [And his tail shifts to the other side. Had he been standing, it might have wagged]

Have you guys always been exorcists? Or was it something you decided later on in life?

[rashness]

Well-- actually, we're still in training, at the cram school and everything. In my case, some things happened and I decided to follow in the footsteps of my old man and in Shiemi's case, after my brother and I saved her from a dekalp she decided to join up. [He says this very sheepishly, because it is very abridged. Plus, back home, they've only been at it for a few months. In fact as he says it, his tail curls around the chair behind him, mostly because he's abridging so much]

Aw, I think that's pretty noble of you, to continue the tradition like that. And for helping Shiemi. But I didn't know you had to go to school for it, even though it does make a lot of sense.

[rashness]

Yeah, it kinda surprised me too, but you do. There's textbooks and everything on all sorts of different demon's properties, and magic plant uses, and stuff like that. It's been a big uphill battle.

[But noble. He flushes a little at that-- actually he's doing all the talking here, maybe he should try to mix it up- not that he has a question in mind]

It sounds like there's a lot more to demons than meets the eye. Can they be very dangerous?

[rashness]

Of course they can. [This is so not a topic for this sort of situation. But he says this soberly, leaning forward with a frown] Most people can't even see 'em, but a lot of them still want to mess with or even kill people. And some of them are really strong.

So you do more than just send them back, you protect everyday citizens, too. You all sound pretty brave.

Thanks, but I feel like I'm doin' all the talking here. I kinda feel bad.

--ah, that's true. I guess I should talk a little, huh? Well, I already told you I'm a Pokemon trainer, but I'm also a research assistant for one of the Pokemon professors, Professor Oak. I've been working for him since I was about thirteen.
