[The rec center today is colourfully decorated, with posters and directing signs here and there to make this whole process easier. The main floor is peppered with a bunch of tables and chairs pilfered from various locations (primarily the school) with two chairs facing each other per table. There's a couple of bigger tables off to the side, one for food (carrying drinks and various snacks, including Teddy and Ororo's homemade rainbow cookies), and the other with a few chairs and piles of paper everywhere. And a checklist. The checklist is important.

The desk is Billy's, and he's handing sheets of paper out to anyone who comes in and was signed up for the speed dating. Give your name, get a sheet and a name tag, go to the first desk or mingle until it starts- that's what people will be told when they arrive. Teddy's not far from the desk or the door depending on where he's needed, directing people to follow the signs, get comfortable, try some snacks- whatever they want.

Finally a lounge area has been set up with cushy chairs, couches, and the rec center's supply of games and whatnot in the corner. There is a sign for the area that says, "If you find yourself on a turn without a date, come hang out!" It's also got a picture of a weird-looking potato man hanging out, but never mind that.

When everything is ready and people are good to go, Teddy steps up and calls for attention, with Billy sitting on top of the table behind him for moral support (and unhelpful interruptions).]

Hey, guys – Hey! Can everyone hear me? Everyone? [...] Great!

I'm sure everyone knows why they're here. Or, you know, not, since a few of these sign-ups look a little suspicious... [He raises an eyebrow at that, but his smile remains good-natured, and his brow smooths over soon enough.] On behalf of Alliance, welcome to Luceti's very first -

-We think.

- speed dating event! [Though Teddy glances at Billy for that interruption, he'd paused as if he expected it to come.] I'm Teddy, and this is Billy, and we're your hosts today. I'll try to be brief for those of you who just want to get this started already, but let's go over the rules and regulations first.

If you happened to get dragged into this without knowing what you're getting yourself into, it's basically exactly as it sounds. You might remember one of us handing you a list of numbers. Well, when Billy gives the signal, everyone will head to the table with the first number on their list, which will pair you off with someone in the room you just might not have met before! You'll have five minutes to talk to them and get to know them, just enough time for a good – or bad – first impression. After that, one of us will blow the whistle, and you'll go to the next numbered table. And on and on, until it's all over! By then, you might have found someone you're interested in, either as a friend, a potential love interest, or even just someone you really don't want to see again.

To keep track of it all, there's a space beside the number to write down the name of the person you're talking to and anything else you might have learned about them. And maybe by the end, you can write down a no, a yes, or an oh yes.

Try not to be too vague about it and we'll give you your matches at some point in the future.

[Teddy grins after that, a happy and excited one.] Remember, this is all about having fun and meeting new people! If you want to take a break, get bored, or don't have a partner, refreshments are on that side of the room [He gestures to the side, showing off the assorted foods and the cookies that he and Ororo spent a good part of the night baking.], or you can come up and talk to us! We're just the supervisors here, after all.

[He takes a step back after that, his attention going to Billy, his way of telling him to give the signal.] Billy?

[Billy gives a small wave, remaining on his table. Teddy did the hard part, after all.] There's a lounge, too, if we're not interesting enough. You might meet somebody there you're not paired with and find a new friend, so give it a shot.

That's pretty much it, so everyone can go on and head to your first table, and we'll blow the whistle in one minute. Thanks for coming, and try to have fun!

[ Not that he expects anything to come of it, but a speed dating even seems like the sort of fun that Joshua just couldn't pass up.

His list is pretty long, so he grabs a few cookies (purple, red, and green) and settles in for a fun afternoon of poking people. ]

[When Bulla showed up for the speed dating, she made sure to dress up a bit. Not to the point of dressing for a formal event, but enough that she looks like she put in an effort and knows how to dress fashionably. Her dress is red with black and gold jewelry and accessories.

Joshua is on her list of romantic matches, so she stops over to say hellow.]

[ Joshua gives a small wave and giggles. ]

Looks like it. My name is Bulla. It's nice to meet you.

[She offers her hand to shake, having decided to go in addressing everyone as a potential friend. She'd rather get to know even her romantic matches as friends first. It's way less awkward that way.]

[ Right, handshake. Joshua is not the most experienced at those but he can manage one well enough, so he shakes Bulla's offered hand. ]

Joshua. A pleasure.

I like the fashion choice. Unique, yet not outlandish.

[Pilouette has been a little nervous through this whole thing, but she's determined to see it through and meet new people! So, when she sits down across from Joshua, she does her best to smile and give him a nice greeting.]

Hello! Um, I'm Pilouette. Nice to meet you.

[ Josh, for his part, is completely at ease. He smiles and tilts his head just the slightest. ]

Are you enjoying this so far?

Yeah...I'm, like, not really used to this whole speed dating thing [or any kind of dating for that matter] but it's been a lot of fun. I'm meeting some pretty interesting people.

[She flounders for a second for a conversation topic. What to talk about...?]

...I like your hair. It, um, looks really nice.

[ Joshua giggles and twirls a curl around his fingertip. ]

Why, thank you. I do try to take good care of it. It's certainly a bit harder now, given that this place lacks the selection of back home. I'm sure you know how it goes.

[ Smile smile. ]

[In her excitement, Pascal ends up running right by Joshua and off to some other part of the rec center before realising where her next match is. She soon ends up double backing on herself and finding the right table though, giving Joshua a a big smile while she slides into the chair across from him.]

Whew, found it! Hiya, I'm Pascal. What's up?

Oh, you know. Meeting a large collection of people and making important and possibly life-altering judgments about them in the span of five minutes each. The usual.

[Two people who have gone to the same event are doing the same sort of thing. Funny, that. Or it's funny to Pascal anyway. She laughs to herself before sitting up and pointing at Joshua.]

But isn't the point of this entire event to judge? Ah, I suppose that's mostly for those of us also seeking romance...

[This evening has not gone well for Fenimore where first impressions were concerned. By this point, she's been reduced to muttering, "hello, my name is Fernimore, it is nice to meet you," repeatedly under her breath as she makes her way towards the next table. Some of the attempts had gone well, but most of them had resulted in her accidentally saying something unfortunate or making some careless mistake. This time, it was going to go well. Probably generically, but well.

It's unfortunate that all her concentration is focused on not screwing up, as there is none left over to pay attention to her brain-to-mouth filter when she catches a glimpse of his wings and says:]

Are your wings dyed or something?

[...Can she just start this whole evening over again?]

[ It's okay, Fenimore! Joshua's a good sport. Particularly when it comes to his wings. ]

Certainly seems that way, doesn't it? But no, they're quite natural. I tried to dye a friend's wings once, and it's rather difficult to get a nice bright shade of orange. [ Not that the orange is probably visible, given that it only seems to be a few of the feathers on the backs of the wings, but that's not the point. Josh is telling a little story to break the ice. ] Pink and red were also hard to separate.

[ Oh, excellent. She's accidentally came across a reasonable conversation starter, thanks to a reasonable conversation partner. ]

I guess it would be hard to find something to make a bright enough shade, with orange. [ Her own wings are actually naturally orange, but it's a fairly dark shade. ] How did that go? I've never really thought about whether feathers would hold dye very well.

It would have gone much better if he didn't immediately spend an hour and a half trying to wash it out in the shower, hee hee. But the colors tended to run together at the edges even before that point.

Hi there! Those're good cookies, right?

I certainly enjoy them. And the colors do make for a nice touch, though I suppose they're not entirely thematically appropriate here.

Have you had one yet?

Well at least they're pretty colors! I haven't tried one yet. Can I?

I don't know. Are you able to consume strangely-colored cookies with chocolate chips in them?

[Well, Rei remembers Joshua from the Halloween parlor game they'd played the following October. He seemed alright, in his own way so she'll take her seat across from him with a smile and a polite bow.]

It seems we're partners, Joshua-san. It's nice to see you again.

I'm surprised you'd remember me.

[ He giggles and gives her a wave in return. What are Japanese traditions but things to be broken? ]

Time always seems to pass so slowly here, after all.

I have a good memory.

[She shrugs off the wave with another nod.]

Time does, doesn't it? I've been here over a year and it feels like only yesterday I arrived.

It's been much longer for me. Even for all the trouble it was, sometimes I wish I were still back in my second year here.
