Speed Dating
Who: Anyone who wants/is forced to come
What: Speed Dating!
When: Saturday at a vaguely-afternoonish time period
Where: The Rec Center
Summary: Details here, Roster here!
Rating: PG/13/T/R/god I don't know there's too many people
[The rec center today is colourfully decorated, with posters and directing signs here and there to make this whole process easier. The main floor is peppered with a bunch of tables and chairs pilfered from various locations (primarily the school) with two chairs facing each other per table. There's a couple of bigger tables off to the side, one for food (carrying drinks and various snacks, including Teddy and Ororo's homemade rainbow cookies), and the other with a few chairs and piles of paper everywhere. And a checklist. The checklist is important.
The desk is Billy's, and he's handing sheets of paper out to anyone who comes in and was signed up for the speed dating. Give your name, get a sheet and a name tag, go to the first desk or mingle until it starts- that's what people will be told when they arrive. Teddy's not far from the desk or the door depending on where he's needed, directing people to follow the signs, get comfortable, try some snacks- whatever they want.
Finally a lounge area has been set up with cushy chairs, couches, and the rec center's supply of games and whatnot in the corner. There is a sign for the area that says, "If you find yourself on a turn without a date, come hang out!" It's also got a picture of a weird-looking potato man hanging out, but never mind that.
When everything is ready and people are good to go, Teddy steps up and calls for attention, with Billy sitting on top of the table behind him for moral support (and unhelpful interruptions).]
Hey, guys – Hey! Can everyone hear me? Everyone? [...] Great!
I'm sure everyone knows why they're here. Or, you know, not, since a few of these sign-ups look a little suspicious... [He raises an eyebrow at that, but his smile remains good-natured, and his brow smooths over soon enough.] On behalf of Alliance, welcome to Luceti's very first -
-We think.
- speed dating event! [Though Teddy glances at Billy for that interruption, he'd paused as if he expected it to come.] I'm Teddy, and this is Billy, and we're your hosts today. I'll try to be brief for those of you who just want to get this started already, but let's go over the rules and regulations first.
If you happened to get dragged into this without knowing what you're getting yourself into, it's basically exactly as it sounds. You might remember one of us handing you a list of numbers. Well, when Billy gives the signal, everyone will head to the table with the first number on their list, which will pair you off with someone in the room you just might not have met before! You'll have five minutes to talk to them and get to know them, just enough time for a good – or bad – first impression. After that, one of us will blow the whistle, and you'll go to the next numbered table. And on and on, until it's all over! By then, you might have found someone you're interested in, either as a friend, a potential love interest, or even just someone you really don't want to see again.
To keep track of it all, there's a space beside the number to write down the name of the person you're talking to and anything else you might have learned about them. And maybe by the end, you can write down a no, a yes, or an oh yes.
Try not to be too vague about it and we'll give you your matches at some point in the future.
[Teddy grins after that, a happy and excited one.] Remember, this is all about having fun and meeting new people! If you want to take a break, get bored, or don't have a partner, refreshments are on that side of the room [He gestures to the side, showing off the assorted foods and the cookies that he and Ororo spent a good part of the night baking.], or you can come up and talk to us! We're just the supervisors here, after all.
[He takes a step back after that, his attention going to Billy, his way of telling him to give the signal.] Billy?
[Billy gives a small wave, remaining on his table. Teddy did the hard part, after all.] There's a lounge, too, if we're not interesting enough. You might meet somebody there you're not paired with and find a new friend, so give it a shot.
That's pretty much it, so everyone can go on and head to your first table, and we'll blow the whistle in one minute. Thanks for coming, and try to have fun!
(( ooc: directions are as follows:
1) check your roster
2) make a top thread for your character with their name in the subject line
3) tag and be tagged
4) THERE IS NO QUESTION MARK ONLY PROFIT ))

Konan
Part of understanding was a willingness to accept and get to know others. Ultimately, that was why she'd shown up for this event.
She's not going out of her way to mingle, but she does take a moment to greet the people familiar to her. In the meantime, she's occupying herself with making an origami flower. Her attention is still on her surroundings, though, and when someone moves close to the table she's seated at, she greets them.]
Hello.
(ooc: Matches are - Cliff, Isaac, Jack, Jade, Logan, Maito Gai, Nathan, Tsuzuki, Vash, Vegeta)
no subject
[Cliff smiled and watched her work with the delicate folds on the paper, admiring her skill with it. A layman wouldn't have been able to create such a piece, or at least not as skillfully as she did.]
That's some impressive work you're doing there. Is...it some kinda hobby?
[A job, if not a hobby. Those weren't the hands of a casual artist.]
no subject
[It's also the basis of most of her combative techniques, but she does create origami simply for the sake of creating it, as well.]
Origami has been a hobby of mine since I was a child.
[Even when she was an orphan who had no money, she'd made her creations out of old food wrappers.]
no subject
[It was part of how he became skilled in his martial arts over the years. A combination of necessity, sense of competition, and love of the people drove him to be the best that he could be. Everything else just fell into place.
His gaze flicked over to the empty chair nearby and back.]
Uh. Do you mind if I take a seat?
no subject
Not at all. Please sit down.
[She motions to the chair, and thinks that perhaps this conversation might be something other than terribly awkward. It's a nice change from some of the chats she's had so far.]
If I may ask, how long have you been in Luceti?
[It's a simple ice breaker, but also something that's at least a little useful to learn about a person.]
no subject
He would need to thank them later-- not by baking some more cookies.]
I've only been here since the winter. Uh, about six months by this calendar's count. It's been weird, being in a place that's this quiet for so long.
What about you?
no subject
[When their faction ended that, there were still missions to bring prosperity to their country, and still the goal of bringing peace to the world, with all of the extreme measures that implied.]
This is the first time in years I've had any time for hobbies.
no subject
Aah. That's sounding like a common story in these parts. It's not quite the same at home, but there's some massive disagreements that keep getting the uninvolved involved. It ain't pretty.
[The 'massive disagreements' took the form of interplanetary conflict between different territories, and the unaffiliated planets were left with no support when they got caught in the crossfire.]
But you're right. This is a nice change. I haven't been able to just relax like this in years.
What sorta hobbies do you do? Besides the origami.
no subject
[Although part of that had been in part because she likes Rapunzel and Ikki and they're both very persuasive when they want to be.]
And yourself?
no subject
The art club, huh? How's that working out?
[Because he hasn't joined any of the organizations himself, yet. The different ones made him very curious.]
I've taken to building a few things and messing around with the electronics we have. I'm something of an engineer back home, a little, and its kinda fun doing these things.
Otherwise I've been making a few fun scenarios in the Dome and, since it's been warming up, I've started swimming at the beach more regularly. Not much else, though.
no subject
[Partially because they had a distinct shape and thus make good crafts.]
It sounds like you keep yourself quite busy. What kind of scenarios did you create at the Dome?
[She's always interested in challenging scenarios. Especially if they require strategic planning.]

He takes a seat across from her, looking a little annoyed at this entire event. He too, eyes the flower she's working on as she greets him.]
[So instead of saying hi like a normal person, instead he decides to mention her little project.]
And why are you wasting time folding flowers out of paper? [Vegeta...no.]
no subject
Does the way I choose to spend my time matter to you? It's something to keep myself occupied.
[Her tone is calm and detached, but if he can demand why she's making paper flowers, she can ask him why he cares.]

Origami is an art form that I've enjoyed since I was a child.
[It's really not a secret that she can make her paper shuriken, so she doesn't mind revealing that much about her abilities. It's some of the others that she hasn't revealed, like the ability to make exploding paper clones of herself. She hasn't even mentioned that ability to her closer friends here.]
I also have the ability to make paper as sharp and hard as steel, so it's an art form that has a self-defense function for me.
no subject
no subject
I rarely joke.
[Almost idly, she begins to fold a paper shuriken as they speak. She won't use it as a weapon, but after it's folded, she first demonstrates how flimsy it is without the use of her chakra, poking the edge so that it bends under the weight of her finger. Then she hardens and sharpens it and uses it to cut tidily into another sheet of paper as if she's using an x-acto knife rather than another sheet of paper.
Carefully, she passes over the thin but unnaturally durable and sharp paper shuriken for him to examine.]
no subject
It doesn't hurt per se but he feels it poke him. He barely put pressure on the edge and it's like he'd pinpricked himself, a tiny little spot of blood coming up out of his finger.]
Well, I must say that's a neat little trick you've got there. [He doesn't say it, but he knows he stands corrected.]
no subject
It's useful enough. Most people wouldn't think to confiscate some blank pieces of paper I had on me, if I happened to be captured and searched for weapons.
no subject
What are you supposed to be, some kind of sorceress? [He slides the shuriken back over to her, not wanting to deal with it anymore.]
no subject
I am a ninja. The paper is controlled with my chakra. That's also how I make it harder and sharper than it's naturally capable of being.

Good day. [He glances towards the origami flower.] Now aren't you the social flower.
no subject
[Konan looks mildly amused at the pun. She doesn't help herself to the wine just yet, nor will she until she sees him drink from the same bottle. Old paranoia dies hard.]
Flowers tend to thrive on water rather than wine.
no subject
Does this mean that you'd prefer a good swim? [He says with a light shrug.] Still, a flower raised on wine would be a worthwhile sight, wouldn't you think?
no subject
I don't mind swimming.
[It was a necessary skill where she came from. It was a wise idea for all shinobi to know how to swim, but Ame shinobi in particular needed to know how.]
Assuming it survived long enough to bloom, yes.
[She avoids touching the wine, and has no intention of doing so until she sees him pour from that bottle and drink a glass of his own. Especially since it was assumed rather than offered and accepted.]
