[The rec center today is colourfully decorated, with posters and directing signs here and there to make this whole process easier. The main floor is peppered with a bunch of tables and chairs pilfered from various locations (primarily the school) with two chairs facing each other per table. There's a couple of bigger tables off to the side, one for food (carrying drinks and various snacks, including Teddy and Ororo's homemade rainbow cookies), and the other with a few chairs and piles of paper everywhere. And a checklist. The checklist is important.

The desk is Billy's, and he's handing sheets of paper out to anyone who comes in and was signed up for the speed dating. Give your name, get a sheet and a name tag, go to the first desk or mingle until it starts- that's what people will be told when they arrive. Teddy's not far from the desk or the door depending on where he's needed, directing people to follow the signs, get comfortable, try some snacks- whatever they want.

Finally a lounge area has been set up with cushy chairs, couches, and the rec center's supply of games and whatnot in the corner. There is a sign for the area that says, "If you find yourself on a turn without a date, come hang out!" It's also got a picture of a weird-looking potato man hanging out, but never mind that.

When everything is ready and people are good to go, Teddy steps up and calls for attention, with Billy sitting on top of the table behind him for moral support (and unhelpful interruptions).]

Hey, guys – Hey! Can everyone hear me? Everyone? [...] Great!

I'm sure everyone knows why they're here. Or, you know, not, since a few of these sign-ups look a little suspicious... [He raises an eyebrow at that, but his smile remains good-natured, and his brow smooths over soon enough.] On behalf of Alliance, welcome to Luceti's very first -

-We think.

- speed dating event! [Though Teddy glances at Billy for that interruption, he'd paused as if he expected it to come.] I'm Teddy, and this is Billy, and we're your hosts today. I'll try to be brief for those of you who just want to get this started already, but let's go over the rules and regulations first.

If you happened to get dragged into this without knowing what you're getting yourself into, it's basically exactly as it sounds. You might remember one of us handing you a list of numbers. Well, when Billy gives the signal, everyone will head to the table with the first number on their list, which will pair you off with someone in the room you just might not have met before! You'll have five minutes to talk to them and get to know them, just enough time for a good – or bad – first impression. After that, one of us will blow the whistle, and you'll go to the next numbered table. And on and on, until it's all over! By then, you might have found someone you're interested in, either as a friend, a potential love interest, or even just someone you really don't want to see again.

To keep track of it all, there's a space beside the number to write down the name of the person you're talking to and anything else you might have learned about them. And maybe by the end, you can write down a no, a yes, or an oh yes.

Try not to be too vague about it and we'll give you your matches at some point in the future.

[Teddy grins after that, a happy and excited one.] Remember, this is all about having fun and meeting new people! If you want to take a break, get bored, or don't have a partner, refreshments are on that side of the room [He gestures to the side, showing off the assorted foods and the cookies that he and Ororo spent a good part of the night baking.], or you can come up and talk to us! We're just the supervisors here, after all.

[He takes a step back after that, his attention going to Billy, his way of telling him to give the signal.] Billy?

[Billy gives a small wave, remaining on his table. Teddy did the hard part, after all.] There's a lounge, too, if we're not interesting enough. You might meet somebody there you're not paired with and find a new friend, so give it a shot.

That's pretty much it, so everyone can go on and head to your first table, and we'll blow the whistle in one minute. Thanks for coming, and try to have fun!

[Artemis is slowly starting to get the hang of this whole thing, although she's still fighting off the last of the nervous butterflies. But she returns Bulla's smile with one of her own, reaching out and taking her hand with a warm grip.]

Hey, I guess you're my next match-up, then. Nice to meet you too.

[Fortunately, Bulla is right in her element when she's socializing and she's a welcoming person.]

How long have you been here in Luceti, Artemis? I've been here for about three months now.

[She offers a slight wry smile.]

The wings took some getting used to. And all the other weird things that happen here.

About that long, too. Going on four now, if I've counted right.

[It was all too easy to lose track here and she propped her chin in her hand as she relaxed a little.]

This place is definitely full of weird. Even more than I'm used to. The wings aren't all that bad, though. Pity they don't actually work, though.

I can fly, so I didn't need them for that, but it does seem kind of pointless to have them there without anyone being able to fly even for short distances.

[Especially since the wings were one big target on one's back.]

They are kind of cute, though. If I had to have something randomly stuck on my back, better these than bug wings.

Can you? [Artemis blinks at her, curious.] Is that normal where you come from?

Most people can't do it because they don't have enough ki - life force energy. There's maybe about fifty to a hundred out of billions of people who can. Mostly it's the best martial artists in the world.

[She's definitely not in that category, though she's more of a natural at it than she realized.]

You're a martial artist then?

[Artemis looks intrigued by this, leaning forward.]

Sort of. I'm not that good, but I was born with an abnormally high amount of ki and my dad is one of the best martial artists in the world. I know enough to make muggers regret causing trouble, anyway.

[She shrugs and smiles.]

I'm also a lot stronger than I look, so that helps, too.

Heh. I know the feeling of that, at least. [She'd taken down her fair share of them in Gotham, after all.] That's really impressive about your dad, though.

My big brother is a pretty impressive martial artist, too. He got hardcore into training from an early age.

[Bulla smiles fondly. She misses her older brother.]

I had to be nagged to just do the basics, but I'm glad I learned that much.

It's useful to know. I started pretty young, too. [Artemis gives her a crooked smile.] Do you have family or friends here? Or is it just you?

Both of my parents, actually. A friend of the family was here for a while before the Malnosso sent him home, too.

[She was lucky and she knows it. Although there was one detail that made things a little awkward at first.]

...the weirdest part was being from different points in time. Dad's from about the same time as me, but Mom's from before my brother or I were born.

I've heard that can be pretty common, actually. [Artemis makes a face.] I have a friend here, too. We're from close to the same time, but she's from a little ahead of me. It must be really weird though, with there being that much of a gap for your mom.

Is her name Zatanna by any chance? I met a girl named Zatanna before who mentioned having a friend named Artemis.

[It's a small Luceti world after all.]

I feel worse for my parents. I'm just glad that Mom's not from a year earlier. She would have still been with her loser ex-boyfriend then. At least she'd met my dad and was attracted to him by the time she was brought here.

[Wow. Apparently Z had really gotten around while Artemis had been away. She blinked in surprise a moment before grinning.] Yeah, it is. We come from the same place.

Ohh. Yeah, I bet. That's... got to be even weirder.

I gave her a birthday makeover.

[And they'd met the first time during a shopping trip. Bulla enjoys being a girly girl.]

She also told me your birthday's just a few days after mine.

Oh that was you, was it? [She remembered Zatanna mentioning it.] Oh? Coming up soon, then.

Well, I was hardly going to let her not do anything special for her birthday.

[Her smile is playful as she says it. Ultimately, it was Zatanna's choice, but that doesn't mean she couldn't give a good natured nudge. Turns out, it hadn't taken much nudging at all.]

I'm turning sixteen. What about you?

That seemed to be the theme for her birthday, yeah. [Artemis looked amused by that, propping her arms on the table once more to lean forward.] Wow, really? Me too.

I was planning on throwing a big party for my birthday. Since it's a few days away from your sweet sixteen too, I wouldn't mind sharing and throwing an even bigger party if you want. You seem pretty cool.

[Bulla can see no downside to combining parties, if the idea appeals to Artemis.]

Thanks for the offer, but I'm not really all that into parties. Not that that should stop you from throwing a big bash for your own, I mean. You totally should.
