[The rec center today is colourfully decorated, with posters and directing signs here and there to make this whole process easier. The main floor is peppered with a bunch of tables and chairs pilfered from various locations (primarily the school) with two chairs facing each other per table. There's a couple of bigger tables off to the side, one for food (carrying drinks and various snacks, including Teddy and Ororo's homemade rainbow cookies), and the other with a few chairs and piles of paper everywhere. And a checklist. The checklist is important.

The desk is Billy's, and he's handing sheets of paper out to anyone who comes in and was signed up for the speed dating. Give your name, get a sheet and a name tag, go to the first desk or mingle until it starts- that's what people will be told when they arrive. Teddy's not far from the desk or the door depending on where he's needed, directing people to follow the signs, get comfortable, try some snacks- whatever they want.

Finally a lounge area has been set up with cushy chairs, couches, and the rec center's supply of games and whatnot in the corner. There is a sign for the area that says, "If you find yourself on a turn without a date, come hang out!" It's also got a picture of a weird-looking potato man hanging out, but never mind that.

When everything is ready and people are good to go, Teddy steps up and calls for attention, with Billy sitting on top of the table behind him for moral support (and unhelpful interruptions).]

Hey, guys – Hey! Can everyone hear me? Everyone? [...] Great!

I'm sure everyone knows why they're here. Or, you know, not, since a few of these sign-ups look a little suspicious... [He raises an eyebrow at that, but his smile remains good-natured, and his brow smooths over soon enough.] On behalf of Alliance, welcome to Luceti's very first -

- speed dating event! [Though Teddy glances at Billy for that interruption, he'd paused as if he expected it to come.] I'm Teddy, and this is Billy, and we're your hosts today. I'll try to be brief for those of you who just want to get this started already, but let's go over the rules and regulations first.

If you happened to get dragged into this without knowing what you're getting yourself into, it's basically exactly as it sounds. You might remember one of us handing you a list of numbers. Well, when Billy gives the signal, everyone will head to the table with the first number on their list, which will pair you off with someone in the room you just might not have met before! You'll have five minutes to talk to them and get to know them, just enough time for a good – or bad – first impression. After that, one of us will blow the whistle, and you'll go to the next numbered table. And on and on, until it's all over! By then, you might have found someone you're interested in, either as a friend, a potential love interest, or even just someone you really don't want to see again.

To keep track of it all, there's a space beside the number to write down the name of the person you're talking to and anything else you might have learned about them. And maybe by the end, you can write down a no, a yes, or an oh yes.

Try not to be too vague about it and we'll give you your matches at some point in the future.

[Teddy grins after that, a happy and excited one.] Remember, this is all about having fun and meeting new people! If you want to take a break, get bored, or don't have a partner, refreshments are on that side of the room [He gestures to the side, showing off the assorted foods and the cookies that he and Ororo spent a good part of the night baking.], or you can come up and talk to us! We're just the supervisors here, after all.

[He takes a step back after that, his attention going to Billy, his way of telling him to give the signal.] Billy?

[Billy gives a small wave, remaining on his table. Teddy did the hard part, after all.] There's a lounge, too, if we're not interesting enough. You might meet somebody there you're not paired with and find a new friend, so give it a shot.

That's pretty much it, so everyone can go on and head to your first table, and we'll blow the whistle in one minute. Thanks for coming, and try to have fun!

Ooh, okay, lemme give you some advice! If it's seriously awkward, like you can't even talk properly or whatever, just get all those awkward feelings out on the table and talk about 'em. Then you'll work everything out way faster then if you just kept them inside or whatever!

[That's what Asbel and Cheria did and everything worked out fine! ... Granted there was some shouting and some tears before they reached the fine part, but the point is they worked everything out in the end.]

... There's no way that's good advice, is there? I mean I'm all for bein' honest, but just blabbing everything'll just make it more awkward.

Don't go and spill everything, they don't need to know all your itty bitty secrets! Just, y'know, the stuff that's making you feel all awkward in the first place. [...] Plus if you reaaally stick your foot in it, just think, you've only gotta get through five minutes of talking to them!

Wait you mean spill it now?! That's a terrible idea, Pascal!

Yeah? If you tell them now then it won't be anywhere near as awkward later! You'll be set for smooth sailing, and not the kind where you ate way too much before hand and you want everything to stop.

If you do it now, you can run out of time and not be able to finish it off. Doing something important like that in a time period just isn't the way to do it, Pascal.

Get it outta the way fast or really early or somethin'. Once you've done that you can tell them you want to hang out later so you can see them again without the time limit, totally awkward free, doi! C'mon you're putting way too much thought into five tiny minutes.

Things don't just go away like that, you know...! [Sure he's being petulant, especially given that she's an older woman who probably actually does know better, but how she's being so calm and jovial about this is irksome]

Not with that attitude they won't! [SMILE.] I'm not saying you hafta tell them, but you'll both have way more fun if you're not staring at your shoes and being all awkward over 'em.

[Hmm. How much time do they have left?] ... Mmhm, I think we've totally got enough time for a practice run. You be you, and I'll be whoever you're feeling all awkward over!

What- no! No, I'm not gonna do that, Pascal! And no ones staring at anyone's shoes here, it's just one of those thins where you don't wanna take a risk right off!

It's not risky, what's the worst you can say to someone at a time like this anyway? [...] I guess you could say 'man, still four minutes left' or something. Ooh, or say their face reminds you of month old fruit! All shriveled up and gross, that's pretty bad! What else...

[And then Pascal got sidetracked from her own idea because she was too busy thinking up bad things to say on a speed date.]

Pascal, bein' level here, have you ever had a crush on someone?

Me? Well sure, I musta had one on some guy growing up or whatever. Probably?

[That was a pretty long time ago though... There's Hubert! But that's more of a BFF deal. Then again, she wouldn't know she had a crush on anyone or if anyone had a crush on her even if someone smacked her over the head with a sign that has the word crush written on it... Lovey dovey things tend to slip right by her if she's involved in some way.]

So you don't even know, basically? I mean, I'm not doubting you or nothing, but i you don't got experience, should you really be advising people?

Sure, why not! It's not like understanding lovey dovey stuff is difficult or anything like that. It's super easy!

It does? [It doesn't seem that way to her. She's just curious and wants to help out!] Nah, it's fine! You sure you're not just kinda touchy when it comes to romancey things?

Good! 'Cus you can be pretty fun and helpful, you know, I wouldn't want people to be bugged out of talking to you just from this one thing. [Himself included]

[It's okay Rin, she understands completely, her advice is pretty great after all.]

Sorry Rin, there might be someone here who's way more awkward than you and they'll need some helping out too. But don't worry, you can always come find ol' Pascal if you need a reminder on what to do!

She stares at Rin and wonders if he's okay, but not for too long. The whistle is about to go in the following few seconds and she needs to be ready to move on to her next match.]
