[The rec center today is colourfully decorated, with posters and directing signs here and there to make this whole process easier. The main floor is peppered with a bunch of tables and chairs pilfered from various locations (primarily the school) with two chairs facing each other per table. There's a couple of bigger tables off to the side, one for food (carrying drinks and various snacks, including Teddy and Ororo's homemade rainbow cookies), and the other with a few chairs and piles of paper everywhere. And a checklist. The checklist is important.

The desk is Billy's, and he's handing sheets of paper out to anyone who comes in and was signed up for the speed dating. Give your name, get a sheet and a name tag, go to the first desk or mingle until it starts- that's what people will be told when they arrive. Teddy's not far from the desk or the door depending on where he's needed, directing people to follow the signs, get comfortable, try some snacks- whatever they want.

Finally a lounge area has been set up with cushy chairs, couches, and the rec center's supply of games and whatnot in the corner. There is a sign for the area that says, "If you find yourself on a turn without a date, come hang out!" It's also got a picture of a weird-looking potato man hanging out, but never mind that.

When everything is ready and people are good to go, Teddy steps up and calls for attention, with Billy sitting on top of the table behind him for moral support (and unhelpful interruptions).]

Hey, guys – Hey! Can everyone hear me? Everyone? [...] Great!

I'm sure everyone knows why they're here. Or, you know, not, since a few of these sign-ups look a little suspicious... [He raises an eyebrow at that, but his smile remains good-natured, and his brow smooths over soon enough.] On behalf of Alliance, welcome to Luceti's very first -

-We think.

- speed dating event! [Though Teddy glances at Billy for that interruption, he'd paused as if he expected it to come.] I'm Teddy, and this is Billy, and we're your hosts today. I'll try to be brief for those of you who just want to get this started already, but let's go over the rules and regulations first.

If you happened to get dragged into this without knowing what you're getting yourself into, it's basically exactly as it sounds. You might remember one of us handing you a list of numbers. Well, when Billy gives the signal, everyone will head to the table with the first number on their list, which will pair you off with someone in the room you just might not have met before! You'll have five minutes to talk to them and get to know them, just enough time for a good – or bad – first impression. After that, one of us will blow the whistle, and you'll go to the next numbered table. And on and on, until it's all over! By then, you might have found someone you're interested in, either as a friend, a potential love interest, or even just someone you really don't want to see again.

To keep track of it all, there's a space beside the number to write down the name of the person you're talking to and anything else you might have learned about them. And maybe by the end, you can write down a no, a yes, or an oh yes.

Try not to be too vague about it and we'll give you your matches at some point in the future.

[Teddy grins after that, a happy and excited one.] Remember, this is all about having fun and meeting new people! If you want to take a break, get bored, or don't have a partner, refreshments are on that side of the room [He gestures to the side, showing off the assorted foods and the cookies that he and Ororo spent a good part of the night baking.], or you can come up and talk to us! We're just the supervisors here, after all.

[He takes a step back after that, his attention going to Billy, his way of telling him to give the signal.] Billy?

[Billy gives a small wave, remaining on his table. Teddy did the hard part, after all.] There's a lounge, too, if we're not interesting enough. You might meet somebody there you're not paired with and find a new friend, so give it a shot.

That's pretty much it, so everyone can go on and head to your first table, and we'll blow the whistle in one minute. Thanks for coming, and try to have fun!

She nods a little and looks up, as if pondering.

"Yes, that is one word I have heard to explain it. All I know is it is on the edge of the sea of the soul. Where it intersects the realms of dream and the realms of man."

"Do you mean you lived there?"

"Yes, I was born there and served till I decided I wished to rescue my first guest. I will admit, the realm of mortals is somewhat confusing and chaotic, yet it is also quite fascinating."

Don smiles again at this.

"Replace "mortals" with "humans", and I completely agree."

"But you are not a human, yet you inhabit that realm as well, correct? Or is it humans themselves that are like that? I have so little experience outside sometime it is hard to figure these things out."

"Yes. More or less." He throws his hands up. "I don't know."

"Neither do I really. Sometimes I wonder if I was wise when I set out on my journey alone, yet my brother and sister were not equipped to come with me."

"You have siblings."

And you had to leave them behind?

"I do, though the master would only permit me to leave."

She sighs a bit and looks down.

"I'm sorry to hear that."

"I miss my brother and sister dearly, but I realized, not every journey involves one's family. Especially if one's family is just as shut in as I am. I look forward to completing it and returning to them though."

No longer caring about the bell, Don leans forward, fully engaged in this conversation.

"I've always been with my brothers, but they're all gone from Luceti now - for months. I like it here but I don't know how much longer I can live without them."

Elizabeth nods a little.

"I am sorry for your separation, but ask yourself this. While your brothers may be gone, would they want you to live in pain or to find purpose on your own for when you next should meet?"

She looks down and shakes her head a bit.

"That is the thought I have been using to keep moving forward myself."

"They would want me to be where they are."

She nods a little.

"Were that not an option though? I sadly do not understand the magic that binds this place and calls souls here but if I did I would gladly call them for you."

Don looks away.

"They always knew I needed something else... but Luceti isn't it."

Elizabeth shakes her head a little.

"I'm very sorry. I can relate why I left my siblings, but I can only offer words and I suspect you need more than words."

[i_speak_softly]

"No... I'd like to hear your story."

"We of the Velvet room exist only to serve our guests. Understand that is why we were created, that is why we have our powers and that is why we are trained to look at the way destiny unfolds."

She lets out a sigh and looks down.

"My first guest was a young man, his contract was simple. He was to bear full responsibility for all actions that he caused. The problem was someone had locked the herald of Death in that young man's soul."

She looks to the side, her eyes growing distant.

"He took me into his world and accepted my help, and I saw the many masks that he wore as he ventured to understand why shadows of the soul were devouring the will to live of the people in the mortal world. He was tricked however and Death's herald was released."

A glowing tarot card appears in her hand for a moment before she flicks it away.

"He refused the option laid by the herald to forget and have an era of oblivion ushered painlessly in, and gathered all 22 arcana together, weaving his soul into a new barrier that trapped Nyx and allowed her to return to sleep."

She then looks down and closes her eyes, shaking her head a bit.

"Then came my second guest, the clockwork woman who wished to forsake her humanity. She split her feelings from her and they formed a second being who petitioned my Master to help again as they wandered the Abyss of Time. Ultimately seeing why the young man gave his soul to do what he did, seeing the beast that claws at the wall he made."

"They defeated the beast but it can not die. It is born of despair, and feeds on humanity's wish for oblivion. I knew I could not properly serve another guest as long as my first's soul was trapped in a wall that was constantly being battered down by such a beast so I left in the night to find out how to kill the monster."

"My brother.... I believe he understood why I left as he had a guest that suffered a similar fate of mine, yet my sister had never had a guest, she only had her duty to the master. I am told that has changed but I am not to return home till I finish my goal for I too now am bound by that same contract. I must bear responsibility for every action I cause."

Don listens quietly, and has just one question.

"Don't we all?"

"To some degree, but how many would use as a defense to a crime 'I did not know that was the law' or something like that? I am to fault for every mistake I make and not the situation, and as such I must keep tight the reins of control over what I do."

Don shakes his head. "I'm a ninja, not a lawyer. We have our own code."

"I am just Elizabeth. I am neither a ninja or a lawyer. I have realized that what I am has too long defined who I am and I desperately need to know who I am before what I am."

Don suspects that other people are beginning to get annoyed at him and Elizabeth, as they overstay the bell and disrupt the flow of the event, but this is too familiar to let go of.

"Where do you live? We need to talk more later."

"Live? I have moved from a few empty houses when I desired entry to the dream realm, but since carry all I have and have not yet found the master of this domain to request a place of my own, I have never settled."

She tilts her head a bit and blinks. "Would you know the master here?"
