Speed Dating

Who: Anyone who wants/is forced to come
What: Speed Dating!
When: Saturday at a vaguely-afternoonish time period
Where: The Rec Center
Summary: Details here, Roster here!
Rating: PG/13/T/R/god I don't know there's too many people

[The rec center today is colourfully decorated, with posters and directing signs here and there to make this whole process easier. The main floor is peppered with a bunch of tables and chairs pilfered from various locations (primarily the school) with two chairs facing each other per table. There's a couple of bigger tables off to the side, one for food (carrying drinks and various snacks, including Teddy and Ororo's homemade rainbow cookies), and the other with a few chairs and piles of paper everywhere. And a checklist. The checklist is important.

The desk is Billy's, and he's handing sheets of paper out to anyone who comes in and was signed up for the speed dating. Give your name, get a sheet and a name tag, go to the first desk or mingle until it starts- that's what people will be told when they arrive. Teddy's not far from the desk or the door depending on where he's needed, directing people to follow the signs, get comfortable, try some snacks- whatever they want.

Finally a lounge area has been set up with cushy chairs, couches, and the rec center's supply of games and whatnot in the corner. There is a sign for the area that says, "If you find yourself on a turn without a date, come hang out!" It's also got a picture of a weird-looking potato man hanging out, but never mind that.

When everything is ready and people are good to go, Teddy steps up and calls for attention, with Billy sitting on top of the table behind him for moral support (and unhelpful interruptions).]

Hey, guys – Hey! Can everyone hear me? Everyone? [...] Great!

I'm sure everyone knows why they're here. Or, you know, not, since a few of these sign-ups look a little suspicious...
[He raises an eyebrow at that, but his smile remains good-natured, and his brow smooths over soon enough.] On behalf of Alliance, welcome to Luceti's very first -

-We think.

- speed dating event! [Though Teddy glances at Billy for that interruption, he'd paused as if he expected it to come.] I'm Teddy, and this is Billy, and we're your hosts today. I'll try to be brief for those of you who just want to get this started already, but let's go over the rules and regulations first.

If you happened to get dragged into this without knowing what you're getting yourself into, it's basically exactly as it sounds. You might remember one of us handing you a list of numbers. Well, when Billy gives the signal, everyone will head to the table with the first number on their list, which will pair you off with someone in the room you just might not have met before! You'll have five minutes to talk to them and get to know them, just enough time for a good – or bad – first impression. After that, one of us will blow the whistle, and you'll go to the next numbered table. And on and on, until it's all over! By then, you might have found someone you're interested in, either as a friend, a potential love interest, or even just someone you really don't want to see again.

To keep track of it all, there's a space beside the number to write down the name of the person you're talking to and anything else you might have learned about them. And maybe by the end, you can write down a no, a yes, or an oh yes.

Try not to be too vague about it and we'll give you your matches at some point in the future.

[Teddy grins after that, a happy and excited one.] Remember, this is all about having fun and meeting new people! If you want to take a break, get bored, or don't have a partner, refreshments are on that side of the room [He gestures to the side, showing off the assorted foods and the cookies that he and Ororo spent a good part of the night baking.], or you can come up and talk to us! We're just the supervisors here, after all.

[He takes a step back after that, his attention going to Billy, his way of telling him to give the signal.] Billy?

[Billy gives a small wave, remaining on his table. Teddy did the hard part, after all.] There's a lounge, too, if we're not interesting enough. You might meet somebody there you're not paired with and find a new friend, so give it a shot.

That's pretty much it, so everyone can go on and head to your first table, and we'll blow the whistle in one minute. Thanks for coming, and try to have fun!

(( ooc: directions are as follows:

1) check your roster
2) make a top thread for your character with their name in the subject line
3) tag and be tagged
4) THERE IS NO QUESTION MARK ONLY PROFIT ))

Raised by a priest? Like, I never would have guessed...!

[He gives off an entirely different impression...to her, anyway. Pilouette leans forward, just a little, and rests her head on her hand, interested.]

Why don't you think he was very good, though?
rashness: (Bright Clouds)

[personal profile] rashness 2013-07-01 04:19 am (UTC)(link)
'Cus he was a huge pervert, and could be pretty low brow when he wanted, too. [He even laughs a little at this, looking sheepish. But really, when it comes down to it...] I didn't really take it seriously growing up, but he was an exorcist too - the Paladin, even, which means he was the strongest one. So while he wasn't great at actin' like a priest, he was the best at all that other stuff.

[And he misses him. He speaks with pride]
ribbonbon: (a tiny bit of happiness)

[personal profile] ribbonbon 2013-07-02 04:43 am (UTC)(link)
[Pilouette gives an awkward little giggle. The man who raised Rin was a pervert, huh? It brings to mind what Precis once told her about Rin once. Still, the way Rin talks about this guy...she can't help but smile.]

It sounds like you really thought pretty highly of him, huh? I bet he taught you like, a lot of stuff, right?
rashness: (Garrosh)

[personal profile] rashness 2013-07-02 04:47 am (UTC)(link)
Eeeh... [This long after his death, it doesn't seem like it, sometimes. Yukio was training to be an exorcist from an early age, and worked with Father Fujimoto in a way he was spared from for years. Probably for his own protection, and the protection of all sorts of other people around him.

He recalls wondering "why was I saved?" - but that isn't even the same question. Here, he tugs a little at his tie, without thinking]
I wasn't always listening the best, but I did learn some stuff from him, yeah.
ribbonbon: (Smile)

[personal profile] ribbonbon 2013-07-03 05:27 am (UTC)(link)
[Pilouette frowns for just a moment, thinking, but smiles a little when she responds.]

Well, even if you only learned some stuff, it must have been nice to have someone around to learn things from. Plus, whatever you learned must have been good, right? You did say he was the strongest, after all...
rashness: (From her business trip)

[personal profile] rashness 2013-07-03 05:33 am (UTC)(link)
Y-yeah but-- what about your folks? What're they like?

[It's a bit of an unseemly deflection, he knows. But maybe he just doesn't want to talk about his dead dad]
ribbonbon: (Thinking)

[personal profile] ribbonbon 2013-07-04 05:37 am (UTC)(link)
[She's a bit surprised by the sudden change in subject, but decides not to press him. After all, she's been asking him all these questions, it's only fair for her to answer some.]

Well...Daddy is pretty nice. He's works a lot, though, so we don't really get to spend a lot time together. But that's how it's always been, so I'm pretty used to it.

[Though, she does miss him quite a bit, especially having not seen him in nearly two years.]
rashness: (We Belong Together)

[personal profile] rashness 2013-07-05 03:53 pm (UTC)(link)
What's he do for work?

[Not having really had a mom himself, he doesn't think to ask about her. And he's not sure if this is invasive or hurtful or whatever, but he blanked on other questions]
ribbonbon: (Let me explain)

[personal profile] ribbonbon 2013-07-06 02:31 am (UTC)(link)
He's an investment banker! He helps people figure out the best way to make money and stuff!

[She seems proud to know this. She's been asked what an investment banker is so many times that she eventually ventured into the haunted-but-not-really library and did a little bit of reading on it.]

He's on call pretty much all the time, though. He works all the time and then some...like I said, a lot. I've probably spent more time around my friends' families.
rashness: (Basho...)

[personal profile] rashness 2013-07-06 06:11 am (UTC)(link)
Oh wow, so are you rich back home?!

[Rin's first thought: Someone who manages money and works a lot must logically be rich.

His envy...]
ribbonbon: (Ahahaa...)

[personal profile] ribbonbon 2013-07-06 06:30 am (UTC)(link)
Huh? Well, I don't know if we're rich. I mean, we have money, I guess. Um, we're not rich, but we're not poor, either. Maybe in the middle, but in the higher part of it? What's the word for it...in the middle, but not really in the middle of the middle, but the high part of the middle? Um...

[The whole time she's moving her hand up and down as if trying to illustrate it, not just for Rin, but for herself while she tries to think it out.]

Oh! That's right! Daddy always uses the term Upper Middle class! But yeah like, we're not rich or anything like that! It's not like we spend lots of money or anything.

[She probably shouldn't mention she went to a private school. Or the yearly trips to France.]
rashness: (Double Duncing)

[personal profile] rashness 2013-07-06 10:40 pm (UTC)(link)
[He is sheepish through her entire explanation, letting her feel it out until she finishes, and...] Oh, okay. But the point is, you gotta have some spending money of your own, right?

[Unlike his own 2000 yen a month allowance Mephisto tried to shelve onto him. That was crazy.]
ribbonbon: (a tiny bit of happiness)

[personal profile] ribbonbon 2013-07-07 03:34 am (UTC)(link)
O-oh! Yeah, I guess you're right...! I had some spending money. I always did my best to make it last, though. And even when I was little, I'd put the spare change into a little piggy bank at the end of the week. Just in case.

[She smiles and lets out a quiet laugh.]

I probably sound like a total dork sitting here talking about like...piggybanks or whatever.
rashness: (To to be king)

[personal profile] rashness 2013-07-07 03:37 am (UTC)(link)
No... really. Well, a little, I guess, but I always spent whatever I earned on ice cream and manga and stuff.

[Haha]
ribbonbon: (Smile)

[personal profile] ribbonbon 2013-07-07 05:15 am (UTC)(link)
Well, it's not like you were wasting it or anything. Fun stuff is okay sometimes, you know?

[Especially ice cream. Ice cream is super okay.]

I used to go out with a friend of mine and we'd spend our pocket money on movie tickets and cakes or whatever. Sometimes, we wouldn't even spend money. We would just go window shopping and not even buy anything.
rashness: (Serenity Fires)

[personal profile] rashness 2013-07-07 05:19 am (UTC)(link)
Oh yeah, I'm not saying it's wasted or anything, it's just... different. [He window shopped some too. Not about much more than food, but...]
ribbonbon: (Thinking)

[personal profile] ribbonbon 2013-07-07 06:33 am (UTC)(link)
You really think it's all that different?

[She leans forward a little, a curious look on her face. Their family situations certainly were different, but...]
rashness: (Three's Company)

[personal profile] rashness 2013-07-07 03:45 pm (UTC)(link)
Well, aside from your dad's job, you're also a foreigner, right? Or err-- not from Japan, anyway. So it's gotta be pretty different.
ribbonbon: (Ahahaa...)

[personal profile] ribbonbon 2013-07-08 03:34 am (UTC)(link)
Oh...Yeah, that's true...To be honest, I don't know much about other countries besides the US and France, so I'm not sure just how different it is.

B-But I'm sure we have some stuff in common, like...Oh! You said you like cooking, right?! That's like, one of my favorite things!
rashness: (I want you)

[personal profile] rashness 2013-07-08 09:14 pm (UTC)(link)
You cook? ...Oh, and you know France, so you can do fancy French stuff?!
ribbonbon: (Ahahaa...)

[personal profile] ribbonbon 2013-07-09 06:15 am (UTC)(link)
Y-Yeah, I cook! ...I can't really do anything fancy, though. S-Sorry. I mean, maybe if I had a recipe to follow...

[She hopes he's not disappointed.]

B-But I've been cooking most of my own meals for a while. What I really like is baking, though. Sweets are probably my absolute favorite!
rashness: (Mowed you lawn)

[personal profile] rashness 2013-07-09 06:21 am (UTC)(link)
Oh yeah? Cool - I only really learned all that much about baking here in Luceti. It's a lot more fun than I thought it'd be.
ribbonbon: (all the smiles)

[personal profile] ribbonbon 2013-07-11 06:30 am (UTC)(link)
I know, right?! Making sure all the ingredients are just right, mixing everything together, waiting until it's all done baking and seeing how it turned out...! It's great! ...Uh...

[She grins a little sheepishly, realizing that she may have gotten a little too excited there.]

I've learned a little more about baking here, but...I got started with a friend's parents back home. They owned a café, so they were baking stuff all the time to test out new things.
rashness: (Party all the time)

[personal profile] rashness 2013-07-11 04:04 pm (UTC)(link)
[Oh she's passionate! ...Not that he can blame her, at all. But still, he smiles more to see her get so into it, and when she finishes-] Was it a French café? Like, do you know any of those sort of special deserts they got over there? 'Cus if you do I'd love some pointers.
ribbonbon: (nyoro~)

[personal profile] ribbonbon 2013-07-12 07:02 am (UTC)(link)
W-Well, no, it wasn't. It was a cafe-bakery kinda thing in the US. I guess they had some French stuff, but it's the kind of stuff you see in lots of places. Croissants and stuff like that.

I know some French desserts, but I haven't really tried to make a lot of them myself yet. Like...Like, Opera cake. Or Clafoutis. Tarte Tatin...

[It's been so long since she's had any of those things that she's starting to drift off a little bit. Hopefully, she won't start drooling...at least not to the point where it's noticeable.]
