Speed Dating

Who: Anyone who wants/is forced to come
What: Speed Dating!
When: Saturday at a vaguely-afternoonish time period
Where: The Rec Center
Summary: Details here, Roster here!
Rating: PG/13/T/R/god I don't know there's too many people

[The rec center today is colourfully decorated, with posters and directing signs here and there to make this whole process easier. The main floor is peppered with a bunch of tables and chairs pilfered from various locations (primarily the school) with two chairs facing each other per table. There's a couple of bigger tables off to the side, one for food (carrying drinks and various snacks, including Teddy and Ororo's homemade rainbow cookies), and the other with a few chairs and piles of paper everywhere. And a checklist. The checklist is important.

The desk is Billy's, and he's handing sheets of paper out to anyone who comes in and was signed up for the speed dating. Give your name, get a sheet and a name tag, go to the first desk or mingle until it starts- that's what people will be told when they arrive. Teddy's not far from the desk or the door depending on where he's needed, directing people to follow the signs, get comfortable, try some snacks- whatever they want.

Finally a lounge area has been set up with cushy chairs, couches, and the rec center's supply of games and whatnot in the corner. There is a sign for the area that says, "If you find yourself on a turn without a date, come hang out!" It's also got a picture of a weird-looking potato man hanging out, but never mind that.

When everything is ready and people are good to go, Teddy steps up and calls for attention, with Billy sitting on top of the table behind him for moral support (and unhelpful interruptions).]

Hey, guys – Hey! Can everyone hear me? Everyone? [...] Great!

I'm sure everyone knows why they're here. Or, you know, not, since a few of these sign-ups look a little suspicious...
[He raises an eyebrow at that, but his smile remains good-natured, and his brow smooths over soon enough.] On behalf of Alliance, welcome to Luceti's very first -

-We think.

- speed dating event! [Though Teddy glances at Billy for that interruption, he'd paused as if he expected it to come.] I'm Teddy, and this is Billy, and we're your hosts today. I'll try to be brief for those of you who just want to get this started already, but let's go over the rules and regulations first.

If you happened to get dragged into this without knowing what you're getting yourself into, it's basically exactly as it sounds. You might remember one of us handing you a list of numbers. Well, when Billy gives the signal, everyone will head to the table with the first number on their list, which will pair you off with someone in the room you just might not have met before! You'll have five minutes to talk to them and get to know them, just enough time for a good – or bad – first impression. After that, one of us will blow the whistle, and you'll go to the next numbered table. And on and on, until it's all over! By then, you might have found someone you're interested in, either as a friend, a potential love interest, or even just someone you really don't want to see again.

To keep track of it all, there's a space beside the number to write down the name of the person you're talking to and anything else you might have learned about them. And maybe by the end, you can write down a no, a yes, or an oh yes.

Try not to be too vague about it and we'll give you your matches at some point in the future.

[Teddy grins after that, a happy and excited one.] Remember, this is all about having fun and meeting new people! If you want to take a break, get bored, or don't have a partner, refreshments are on that side of the room [He gestures to the side, showing off the assorted foods and the cookies that he and Ororo spent a good part of the night baking.], or you can come up and talk to us! We're just the supervisors here, after all.

[He takes a step back after that, his attention going to Billy, his way of telling him to give the signal.] Billy?

[Billy gives a small wave, remaining on his table. Teddy did the hard part, after all.] There's a lounge, too, if we're not interesting enough. You might meet somebody there you're not paired with and find a new friend, so give it a shot.

That's pretty much it, so everyone can go on and head to your first table, and we'll blow the whistle in one minute. Thanks for coming, and try to have fun!

(( ooc: directions are as follows:

1) check your roster
2) make a top thread for your character with their name in the subject line
3) tag and be tagged
4) THERE IS NO QUESTION MARK ONLY PROFIT ))

Pretty sure a lot of people are from my time or later. You really should ask.

Is that really not anything you've ever thought about?
blessingone: (out there on the sea)

[personal profile] blessingone 2013-08-22 06:22 pm (UTC)(link)
It's...I've thought that it was a little weird, but it's not like it's the only weird thing around here that doesn't have an explanation. Humans being everywhere just seemed like one of those things.
musubi: (that's what she said)

[personal profile] musubi 2013-08-22 10:16 pm (UTC)(link)
And yet there are places without humans. Have you heard of some of those?
blessingone: (we've been sitting here for hours)

[personal profile] blessingone 2013-08-25 04:16 am (UTC)(link)
I haven't heard about many of them. I guess there's those...talking horses, even if I've never actually met them. [But she's gathered at least from Rainbow Dash's journal posts that her world doesn't have humans.] But I can't really think of any others off the top of my head.
musubi: (but are you certain?)

[personal profile] musubi 2013-08-25 08:03 am (UTC)(link)
Eh. They exist. That's all that matters.

We didn't come here to talk about all this crap, though! [He grins all of a sudden.] You and I are supposed to be on a date.
blessingone: (do the people all take care of you)

[personal profile] blessingone 2013-08-26 05:25 pm (UTC)(link)
A speed date.

[She is quick to correct him. Even if she's not having a bad time talking to him now, she hasn't forgotten his behaviour when she first arrived. She doesn't want him to forget that he hasn't gotten to the "date" position yet.]

But I guess you're right. So, um. What kinds of hobbies do you have?
musubi: (we will burn this place down)

[personal profile] musubi 2013-08-26 09:57 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh, you know. Working out. Being a generally awesome guy.

Seriously, though, I spend a lot of time working at Seventh Heaven. Sometimes I work with whatever spirits will listen to me, which isn't saying much.
blessingone: (we've been sitting here for hours)

[personal profile] blessingone 2013-08-31 10:55 pm (UTC)(link)
[She resists the urge to roll her eyes. She might normally been amused, but she's still affected by the first impression. Still, no need for her to be rude.]

So, you're having trouble learning much in the way of magic around here, huh? I haven't tried it myself, but it does seem like it might be a bit hard.
musubi: (friendly skepticism)

[personal profile] musubi 2013-09-01 09:56 am (UTC)(link)
I wouldn't say I'm having trouble learning it... just getting them to teach me. I don't have any trouble picking up things from the ones that will.

[Even if he hadn't really been seeking to learn from Nala in the first place. He'd all but shoved the healing arts aside once Hyt opened up to him.]
blessingone: (like you could save me)

[personal profile] blessingone 2013-09-14 02:21 am (UTC)(link)
[She shrugs.]

It might be just that I haven't tried it myself, but it sounds to me that convincing them to teach you is a big part of learning it. ...Maybe that's being a little too critical, though. It's good that you are good at the second part.
musubi: (every side of me)

[personal profile] musubi 2013-09-14 04:45 am (UTC)(link)
If they want me to beg them, then forget it. They aren't worth it.

[He's been pondering his own means of getting some magical abilities back lately, anyway.]
blessingone: (like you could save me)

[personal profile] blessingone 2013-09-16 04:32 am (UTC)(link)
I don't think that it's supposed to involve begging.... [But, then again, she's never tried it herself. Maybe it does have to go that far.] Well, in the end, it's up to you.
musubi: (we will burn this place down)

[personal profile] musubi 2013-09-16 05:36 am (UTC)(link)
That's exactly right. It is.

[He smirks a little now.]

You get points for putting up with me.
blessingone: (the same bad lines always get you)

[personal profile] blessingone 2013-09-27 01:11 am (UTC)(link)
[She's a little surprised to hear him bring it up, but...maybe he's used to people not putting up with him. Then again, she can understand why, with how he was acting when she first talked to him. She hesitates for a moment before replying somewhat huffily.]

Well, you aren't as bad as I thought you were at first. I can put up with you for a few minutes, at least.
musubi: (we're all mad here)

[personal profile] musubi 2013-09-27 04:28 am (UTC)(link)
Aw, now that's just sweet of you.

[He leans back again with his hands behind his head.]

Just as long as it's not out of pity.
blessingone: (I'll be awful sometimes)

[personal profile] blessingone 2013-09-29 04:55 am (UTC)(link)
[She shakes her head. Maybe there's the slightest tinge of pity from the thought that people might normally not put up with him, but in her opinion, people who make themselves difficult to get along with should just deal with people not getting along with them or shaping up, so it's certainly not the deciding factor.]

Why would I pity you? You said yourself that you spend a lot of time being "generally awesome."

[She smirks a little.]
musubi: (a little flirtatious)

[personal profile] musubi 2013-09-29 07:36 am (UTC)(link)
Exactly!

[He grins at her again.]

See, you get it.
blessingone: (I'll be awful sometimes)

[personal profile] blessingone 2013-10-02 03:27 am (UTC)(link)
[She can't help but find that kind of confidence entertaining, so she continues to grin.]

I -- [But then she's interrupted by the whistle.] Well, I guess that's five minutes. It wasn't as long as I thought it was going to be.

[Her tone and expression indicates that she's joking, though it is kind of true after how it started.]
musubi: (just me in the window)

[personal profile] musubi 2013-10-02 08:05 pm (UTC)(link)
Far too fleeting. Maybe we'll meet again on our own terms.

[He stands and holds out a hand to her.]
blessingone: (show me how pretty the world is)

[personal profile] blessingone 2013-10-06 06:18 pm (UTC)(link)
[She shakes his hand.]

Maybe we will. That might be nice...as long as you're a little more careful about tables.

[She's kidding.]
