New Feather Party, Summer Edition!

It's been a lot of hard work, but the New Feather Party is set up and ready to go! A make-shift canopy has been set up, underneath which are a few small tables covered with various foods, some made by Welcome Center staff(though people are encouraged to bring dishes of their own to share!) along with some small ice-filled coolers full of various drinks. There are also a few beach balls, some buckets full of water balloons and some small water pistols (All Pilouette could find were the basic kind; no pumps here!) scattered about for for a bit of fun in the hot weather.

[Beach party? Beach party.]

[The rave on the beach was fun, and while she isn't a New Feather she's actually excited to be on a beach to swim and enjoy the ocean during the day. Of course she's asked Robert and Booker to come along, just so she has an excuse to be there.]

[And she is, of course fashionably attired for some seabathing. Wide-brimmed hat and parasol included.]

[She does want to go out into the ocean, but in the meantime she's simply taking in the view and breathing the sea air.]

[In contrast, Gai is wearing a t-shirt and a pair of red swim trunks as he lounges on the sand, not minding the heat of the sun at all. When you've spent a good portion of your childhood in Africa, the sun here is downright balmy, even in the heat of the summer.

He also brought along a small cooler with a few sodas in it just in case; he reaches in to grab two, one for himself and another which he offers to Elizabeth.]

Let me guess: you sunburn easily?

[Elizabeth gives him a look and settles back down onto the sand, taking the offered soda.] I might. Or maybe I'm trying to look like all of the fashion magazines. Worldly and elegant... [She grins and opens the bottle.]

[Gai pops his own open with a smile, taking a sip.]

Right, I always forget those things exist. I don't think I've ever looked inside one myself. Some of the covers aren't bad, though.

Really? I used to look at them all the time. Imagine myself in something parisienne and fashionable. [Of course, what she considered to be important had changed so drastically after her escape. It was ironic, in a way, that she could dress however she liked, read whatever she liked, go where she liked (within Luceti of course), but it was happening in another prison.]

When I was feeling silly and girlish. When I could think about those things.

You can think of them as much as you want now, and what's even better, you can try out as many fashions as you'd like here without paying a thing. It's like having your own infinite closet.

[He is so out of his element here and he knows it. Sure, he's got a decent familiarity with the men's fashion of his time - he needed to, in order to look sharp and classy while presenting deals to businessmen to secure financing - but women's fashion is a different beast entirely. It's all way too complicated for him.]

That's true! [Elizabeth nods, giving Gai a conspiring look.] I've taken things home from the clothing shop that I'm sure I'll never wear, but it just looks interesting. A black dress with no straps that looks like it's meant to conform to my body's shape, shoes with rhinestones on them, long coats... I'm trying to get up the nerve to wear trousers too. I've seen some women wearing them here!

[voidseeing]

[Gai's eyebrows go up just the slightest bit at the mention of the body-hugging strapless black dress... he likes the sound of that one.]

Don't be too surprised when you look around-- there are women here wearing a lot less than that right now.

[Now he can't help but wonder if she's noticed any of the bikinis present here at this party.]

[Nope, nope she has not.]

[But now she's looking around and... Wow.]

My underwear covers more than that. [Elizabeth swallows and starts to feel incredibly self-conscious in her own bathing suit. She can't possibly wear that though. Her body wasn't so... displayable, especially with the scar on her spine.]

Most people's underwear covers more than that. I think that's generally the point.

[From the look on his face, he's not especially impressed by any of the swimwear present. Sure, it's nice eyecandy, but that's about it. Now that he's off the market, it doesn't have the same appeal it once did.]

That doesn't make any sense. [Elizabeth raises a helpless eyebrow at Gai, then watches someone go by in a bikini she's just barely contained by.]

I thought the point of going to the ocean was to seabathe. Not to... be as unclothed as possible. Has that changed?

Those are just for showing off. They aren't exactly designed for much in the way of swimming, which is why it's common to hear a girl shrieking because a wave took part of her bikini off. I don't know why you would even go into the ocean wearing one of those in the first place.

[Sure, they're hot, but they're also impractical.]

[...Elizabeth doesn't know why either. And frankly, she's having a bit of a panic attack just thinking about being topless in the middle of the ocean. This is the woman who's been shot at repeatedly.]

I can see why men are so excited about seeing women at beaches, if the likelihood of seeing someone naked is high.

Not as high as most men would like. Most of the time they have to content themselves with just looking at the bikinis, not what's under them.

Of course, they don't leave all that much to the imagination to begin with.

[And if Elizabeth decided she wanted to wear one, he would be the last person to object to that.]

[Tenenbaum is looking out at the sea while walking, always a good combination and just avoids running into the girl.]

Ah, I am sorry.

[Unlike most people she is not dressed up, wearing tattered clothing. Yup she's a new one.]

[Elizabeth herself is looking out at the ocean as well, and doesn't realize she's about to be hit until the other woman stops in time.]

Oh, no, I wasn't paying attention either.

[She eyes the woman's clothing with a little frown.] Are you alright?

[She thinks she's still talking about running into her.]

Yes, I am fine.

I was just distracted by the ocean.

[That answers one question, though given Elizabeth was distracted by the ocean as well she figured it was something along those lines.]

Yes, it is beautiful, isn't it? [She's trying to be polite, of course, but she's also still curious about the clothing situation.] Did you run into something angry on the way here? There's a rip in your sleeve...

Hmm?

[She glances over at her sweater sleeve. Oh right.]

Oh, no. It's just falling apart. Have been meaning to stitch it up when I had the time... but always more important things coming up.

[The bottom of the sweater is also frayed and coming apart in one spot.]

[Wow... this sweater sure has had a number done on it. Elizabeth manages not to stare and looks back up at the woman.]

Have you been to the clothing shop in the village? I'm sure you could get a new one there. [This is a New Feather party--it's entirely possible this person is new and hasn't read the guide in the back of the journal.]

A new one?

[New clothing, what is this concept.]

Ah perhaps.

What sort of currency is used here?

[This woman really is new, isn't she?]

None, everything is free. It takes a little getting used to, but everyone seems to manage alright. You... haven't been sleeping outside since you arrived, have you?

No, I have been staying with someone.

Ah, I see. Well, there isn't any currency here. If you wanted to live alone, you could do that without having to pay for your room. It's the same with clothing.

Unless that sweater has some... personal value. In which case mending it might be the best thing to do.
