Luceti Valley - The First Log

Summary: Luceti has become an idyllic and peaceful 50s-esque village. The first few days are just business as usual, right?

August 1st had seemed like an ordinary day in Luceti. But late in the evening, for those night owls who had not turned in yet, they were witness to strange fluctuations in the barrier. Beautiful, really, almost like Luceti had received its own 'Northern Lights', even though it seemed to come from the far east, across the ocean. This ominous light show lasted for all of fifteen minutes before it ceased all together. Skimming the ocean waters, a horde of cultists entered Luceti, cloaked by darkness. Upon reaching the entrance to the tunnels, their leader stepped inside and was followed one by one by his fellow cultists. When the last had entered, the tunnel entrance closed. Across the mountains, the entrance to the tunnels in the village did the same.

Midnight passed without incident, but by three in the morning, the change suddenly came. Minds were altered, forms were changed, and buildings sprang from nowhere.

Much later, on August 2nd, morning settled on a changed village, the new mayor made his way to his mansion with his pair of adorable dobermans at either side of him. The sun shined bright. It was a good day to be a Lucetian.

Note: There will be a stand alone log for the homecoming dance. There will be another log for the second stage of the event.

[ The textile strike wasn't the part that affected Arietta the most. No, it was the poor crops this year. It had become harder to feed everyone, yes, but it had become harder to feed the animals!

Day 1 finds her out on the farm, playing with their horses, cows, and even the farm cats.

Day 2 is the day before school, and she's around Hightown trying to buy all the stuff she needs.

Day 3 and 4, she's attending school like usual, but by Day 5 she gets bored and sneaks out in the morning, at which point she can be found... well, pretty much anywhere else. ]

[Aang is on a break from his own shift of farmwork - it hasn't been long that he's been working here - and he's spending it on a quiet walk while chewing on an apple. Then he witnesses Arietta playing with some animals and, intrigued immediately, heads over to see.]

[ Arietta looks up from petting the cat at her feet and gives Aang a wave. ]

Hi Aang! Are you working around here today?

[He rubs at his hair a little nervously and chuckles, leaning down towards the cat.]

Yep! Guilty as charged. It's like they're trying to make a working guy out of me. How about you, Arietta - are you the director of petting kitties?

[ That cat seems to startle and move behind Arietta, but from that position it pokes its head out towards Aang and sniffs at him.

Arietta laughs. ]

I guess so. I want to keep all our animals happy! These ones seem to be eating fine even with the harvest, but if this happens again, they'll be in trouble, too...

[He chuckles a little more and takes his turn in petting at the cat. But He frowns at Arietta's news.]

Right. I mean, it still seems like a lot of work, but the harvest isn't as good as it should be, right? I didn't realize that even little animals would be affected...

No... it's not. Things were really bad this year. With less food, there won't be as many animals that the cats hunt. Even if it's not what they eat, they go hungry, too...

That's... It's really sad. [He wraps his arms around the cat.] I wish there was a way to make everyone better. Why can't everyone have enough?

[ Tame or not, the cat is still a mostly wild animal, so it responds to the hug by trying to squirm away. Sorry Aang. ]

I don't know. Maybe if we could get more food from other places. Since it all comes from here, it means everyone is in trouble when something goes wrong...

[Oh. He frowns a little at that and awkwardly pulls back from the hug then giving an apologetic smile.]

Where else could we get food, then? Should we... ask some rich people?

[ She shakes her head. ]

Most of their food comes from us, too, I think. I've never asked... but we sell to the store, and they buy from the store. Even if they do get it from somewhere else, it's probably really expensive...

That makes sense. I don't know what to do then. Unless we all work together to make sure we get all the food. But if rich people wanna help... All that money's gotta help somehow.

Yes... but how? And... I don't like having to rely on them. We should be able to do this ourselves... [ But not when the harvest is like this. ]

[The poor harvest really hit them the most. Kouki did what he can to make sure the animals have some food to eat, leave enough to send to town but also feed themselves as well. Since he's also looking after Arietta, that means ensuring she get some food on the table as well.

Speaking of Arietta, after surveying the crops again, Kouki made his way to check on the animals. And obviously find his sister there with the horses.]

Kouki!

[ She quickly leaves the horse she was brushing and runs over towards him. ]

I think they've started to notice we're giving them less grain... They're not as happy as usual. Oh, but how are you doing?

[ After all, food was scarcer all around, and Kouki was always working so hard... ]

I thought so, but they just need to bear with it a little longer.

[Until the food situation get better. Which will take a while.

But her question got his attention. Kouki dislike making her worry any more than she needs to.]

...I'm doing alright. There's been a lot of work, but nothing I can't handle.

[Just as long they can feed themselves. He's been planning on discreetly giving Arietta some of his portions.]

[ If she notices she will be unhappy, but Kouki is such a nice brother, sob. ]

Alright. But, if you do need my help, let me know... I've been extra nice to the animals to make it up to you!

[ Arietta weren't you always extra nice to them... ]

[The joy of having a nice older brother who acts strong, sob.

He smiles and chuckles a bit, raising a hand to pat her head.]

Yeah, I know, Arietta.

[She's always nice to the animals, and he can tell they prefer her more than him. They do like him, just...not as much as his little sister.]

So you're brushing them right now, right? How about I help out as well?

Only if you want to! There's only these two left to brush, so if you're tired, you don't have to help. I can finish on my own.

She quickly disappears into the stable and returns with a second brush, which she hands over to him. ]

[Such a good horse. And hey, he's spending some time with Arietta right now, so why not brush with her?

...He's done with his work for the moment, too, so there's that.]

I hope so! And that way, everyone can be happy again. I don't like it when people are upset, and when you're hungry, you get mad really easily.
