Luceti Valley - The First Log

Who: Everyone
What: The start of a new experiment... or is it?
When: August 2nd - August 6th
Where: Luceti itself
Summary: Luceti has become an idyllic and peaceful 50s-esque village. The first few days are just business as usual, right?
Rating: Varies with thread. Please move explicit stuff to appointments post with appropriate warnings.

August 1st had seemed like an ordinary day in Luceti. But late in the evening, for those night owls who had not turned in yet, they were witness to strange fluctuations in the barrier. Beautiful, really, almost like Luceti had received its own 'Northern Lights', even though it seemed to come from the far east, across the ocean. This ominous light show lasted for all of fifteen minutes before it ceased all together. Skimming the ocean waters, a horde of cultists entered Luceti, cloaked by darkness. Upon reaching the entrance to the tunnels, their leader stepped inside and was followed one by one by his fellow cultists. When the last had entered, the tunnel entrance closed. Across the mountains, the entrance to the tunnels in the village did the same.

Midnight passed without incident, but by three in the morning, the change suddenly came. Minds were altered, forms were changed, and buildings sprang from nowhere.

Much later, on August 2nd, morning settled on a changed village, the new mayor made his way to his mansion with his pair of adorable dobermans at either side of him. The sun shined bright. It was a good day to be a Lucetian.

Note: There will be a stand alone log for the homecoming dance. There will be another log for the second stage of the event.

Day 5

Ahhh...your place is lovely like always, Mr. Curtiss!

[A business meeting with Mr. Panda is always a surprise, mostly because he plans them on a whim. He also decides on the day of that there's going to be a meeting at all. After hearing about the tax hike, though, how can he not go and talk with his dear friend about it? Mr. Panda is extremely wealthy himself, and he is the town's most prominent banker unless I missed someone.]

Your wine is as flavorful as ever, too. What year is it?

Day 5

[If there's one upside to hanging with the Panda, it's a steady stream of praise. He nods with a confident smirk as he sits with his own wine-glass nearby.]

Oh, this bottle is [INSERT YEAR HERE]. It's the same year I fought in the war, so I've been certain to save it for a specific occasion. [Like today. Not for any anniversaries or anything like that.]

[He takes another sip.]

Ahh...! This is the right day to share it. I was so worried about the tax hike not passing that I almost lost sleep. Almost.
yourfononsarewhack: (I have you now)

Oh Panda, you shouldn't have worried yourself at all. There was a never a chance that this bill would get vetoed. We're the ones with true power here, after all. And that bill is a gentle reminder of that for those radicals down at the bottom.

You're right, Mr. Curtiss. They might not be happy now, but I'm sure they'll come to understand! They always do. [Or they'll grow complacent while Mr. Panda grows richer.] They won't even remember by the time the next holiday comes around, after all.
yourfononsarewhack: (pleasent)

You've raised an unusually significant point, Panda. It's similar to the behaviors of ants, really. Once an unexpected change is introduced, they may try to rally against it. But it's forgotten the moment some little morsels appear for them to devour, and they end up living around the new structure with no problems. So it is that holiday seasons are an ideal time for those lower classes to forget about their petty squabbles and focus on their little families. That's the way it's always been, after all.

Hmm...[Even though he's an aristocat, he's not sure he approves of them being called ants. It's kind of true, though, he can't deny it! And he certainly won't say so to Mr. Curtiss.] That sounds right to me. While they're all enjoying the holidays, we'll be enjoying them in style, too. It must be really hard to be an ant. It's like they're eating crumbs and we're eating bamboo.

[Why always bambooo...]

[He waves it off.]

Does it matter? They get along well enough for crumbs. Maybe they even get accustomed to the taste. It's as simple as that.
bamboozler: (bad dude)

Ahh...! It's like how you eat something even if you don't like it just because your mom used to make it for you. Is that what it's like to be poor? [He laughs.] You wouldn't know, of course.
yourfononsarewhack: (reflection)

[personal profile] yourfononsarewhack 2013-08-08 07:20 am (UTC)(link)
I certainly don't know for myself. [He only manages a slight smile rather than any laughter.] And I don't intend to. It's too unseemly to even entertain such thoughts. Just accept things for what they are: we're us, and they are them.
bamboozler: (let me be honest folks)

[personal profile] bamboozler 2013-08-08 08:49 am (UTC)(link)
That's right, that's right. We work really hard, too. We're the ones who deserve all of this, don't you think? They'd be lost without us instructing them.
yourfononsarewhack: (i'm wearing a cape motherfucker)

[personal profile] yourfononsarewhack 2013-08-08 02:47 pm (UTC)(link)
It's startling, the amount of valid points that you're raising. But you're right. It's our birthright. We're the only ones who truly know better, in the end.
bamboozler: (Unsure)

[personal profile] bamboozler 2013-08-09 08:46 am (UTC)(link)
Hmm, hmm! Without me, there'd be no Bearbank or Panda wing at the hospital! They should be more thankful, really...it's too bad.
yourfononsarewhack: (light up glasses)

[personal profile] yourfononsarewhack 2013-08-12 05:38 pm (UTC)(link)
They don't think to be grateful - most of them, that is. They're greedy and grubby and don't know how to just settle for what they have. This tax hike is just the firm measure we've needed to keep them in line.

[ooc: Continue?]
