Luceti Valley - The First Log

Summary: Luceti has become an idyllic and peaceful 50s-esque village. The first few days are just business as usual, right?

August 1st had seemed like an ordinary day in Luceti. But late in the evening, for those night owls who had not turned in yet, they were witness to strange fluctuations in the barrier. Beautiful, really, almost like Luceti had received its own 'Northern Lights', even though it seemed to come from the far east, across the ocean. This ominous light show lasted for all of fifteen minutes before it ceased all together. Skimming the ocean waters, a horde of cultists entered Luceti, cloaked by darkness. Upon reaching the entrance to the tunnels, their leader stepped inside and was followed one by one by his fellow cultists. When the last had entered, the tunnel entrance closed. Across the mountains, the entrance to the tunnels in the village did the same.

Midnight passed without incident, but by three in the morning, the change suddenly came. Minds were altered, forms were changed, and buildings sprang from nowhere.

Much later, on August 2nd, morning settled on a changed village, the new mayor made his way to his mansion with his pair of adorable dobermans at either side of him. The sun shined bright. It was a good day to be a Lucetian.

Loki curled up in the seat as best he could, still listing protectively over his left side. He pushed his hair back from his face with one trembling hand. "Think I need a bit o' that lovely scotch of yours. Calm my nerves."

"Yeah, that's not going to happen." Because all a drunk man needed was more alcohol. Loki needed a doctor, lots of water and a good sleep, and he had already shot down one of those. Tony put his keys in the ignition, starting the engine to pull into the street again.

[complicatedliar]

Loki have no sign of having heard those words. He gave Tony a warm, almost adoring smile. As soon as they were moving, instinct told him things would be all right. Tony would take care of everything. "You're such a good friend, Tony. Like my brother. I don't deserve you."

[alloys]

"That's the thing about friends," he said plaintively as he drove. "It doesn't matter who deserves what as long as there's someone around to carry your ass home at the end of the night."

[complicatedliar]

Loki attempted to consider this idea. It seemed reasonable enough. "Your turn next time," he finally said.

[alloys]

"I'll think about if that means you'll lay off the hard stuff for awhile."

[complicatedliar]

"'s just a bit of fun," Loki said, sounding somewhere between defensive and petulant. "I can stop whenever I want."

[alloys]

"No, you can't," Tony murmured, and this was the final straw. Loki had wrecked his car, driven it into a ditch - he was lucky to be alive. Next time - and there would be a next time, if he kept this up - Tony doubted he'd have the same streak of luck.

[complicatedliar]

Loki glared at him. "Can too. This was an accident, yanno. Just an accident."

[alloys]

How many accidents was it going to take before he realized he was wrong? "We're not talking about this tonight."

[complicatedliar]

"Fine," Loki muttered. "Didn't want to talk anyway." He couldn't seem to quite settle on how he felt about anything. "I'm just tired."

[alloys]

"If you fall asleep in this car, I reserve the right to throw cold water on you to wake you up."

[complicatedliar]

"'m sorry," he said. Why was Tony being so mean to him? Loki hunched his shoulders a bit more, sinking down in the seat. "I'll try to stay awake."

[alloys]

"Good." He didn't say anything after that, letting the monotony of the radio fill the silence.

[complicatedliar]

Without anything to distract him, Loki did start nodding off, as curled up as he could get in the front seat.

Fortunately, it didn't take them more than a few minutes longer to arrive at the Stark estate. Tony pulled into the driveway and killed the ignition, glancing over at his drunk friend crumpled in the passenger's seat.

"I don't have to get that glass of water, do I?"

[complicatedliar]

The cessation of movement and Tony speaking dragged Loki from his near stupor. "...what?"

[alloys]

"We're here." He sighed inwardly.

[complicatedliar]

"Right." Loki began to untangle himself from the seat and his own coat, then fumbled the door open. Then promptly fell out of the car. And started laughing.

[alloys]

Good grief.

Tony stepped out of the car and wheeled around the hood to find his friend laughing in a heap on the ground. "I fail to see what's so funny about this," he grumbled, stooping down to help Loki to his feet again.

[complicatedliar]

Loki giggled, the sound abruptly ending in a hiss of pain as he clung to Tony. "It's hilarious," he said. "I hated that car anyway. Father should have been driving that one." He started laughing again.

[alloys]

"Ass," Tony hissed, glaring ahead as he led Loki towards the front door. If Loki wasn't as drunk as he was, Tony might have slugged him for that one.

[complicatedliar]

"Why not," Loki continued, still laughing. The sound had a definite tinge if hysteria to it now. "I was the one that killed them anyway. It's poetry. Poems. Poetic. Thingy. Should've taken the other car."

[alloys]

He wasn't going to bother reasoning with him. At the doorstep, Tony pulled out his keys and unlocked the door.

"I doubt it."

[complicatedliar]

Loki leaned on Tony. He seemed to finally be running out of laughter. Or breath. "Doubt what?"
