Luceti Valley - The Second Log

Luceti Valley continued in its own merry little way. The rich got richer, the poor got poorer. A new tax hike had ensured increasing animosity between both groups, despite the protests of the every charitable Lord Mayor. But on the sixth day, something happens and people begin to notice things are unusual. Idle thoughts that if thought about too much is bound to get you a visit to the police station for an hour or so. Or worse, it may just get you committed.

Meanwhile, the asylum continues to gain more and more patients. Those that are trapped there will find escaping difficult, but there may be more to this place than they first assumed...

On the tenth, battle breaks out across Luceti Valley. People begin to exhibit powers and abilities they didn't know they had. The police begin rounding up these people to lock up. If they resist, its bound to come to blows. Even though no one has regained their memories of their true self yet, it becomes apparent that some trickery is afoot, even if they might not know the source or why.

Note: This is the second log! There will be a third and final event log for the aftermath. There will also be two separate logs specifically for finding John and defeating Zompano. For those of you that signed up, we'll be randomizing the results and replying to the selected characters later tonight. In the meantime, keep enjoying the event! W-What the?

[Did... did Pretty-boy just spontaneously hit puberty or something? Is that how it works for guys?? But wait he's glowing why is he glowing wtf.]

[Kari just sort of stares at him for all of 5 seconds, before taking an awkward step back.]

...stop that!

[ Yes Kari that's exactly how it works for guys. All gain no pain. Except for the part where Joshua doesn't exactly seem to have any idea what's going on either, if the way he's staring at his hands in shock is anything to go by. ]

Stop? I don't even know what I'm doing.

H-How can you not know? One minute you were all normal and now you're all weird! That doesn't just happen!

[While she's freaking out, though, the pendent pinned to her shirt is starting to flash and flicker, pulling her attention away from the living Disco ball.]

W-Wait... now what?

[ Yeah sorry Kari, not going to get to your surprise until it turns critical. Josh is more preoccupied with his giant-ass light show than your tiny one at the moment. ]

Do you think I don't know that? Why would I have any idea what's going on?

I-I don't know! Maybe because it's happening to you!? Who else would know!?

[She starts trying to undo the pin on the back of her pendent while she talks, but as soon as she gets it undone, it starts to glow brighter, eventually turning too hot to touch. She gasps and tries to let it drop to the ground--]

[But as soon as she does, several long gold metal coils shoot out from the pendent in mid-air and impale Kari's chest, causing her to stumble a few feet backwards.]

[She doesn't even have time to cry out, just standing there in shock as though not even registering what just happened.]

...uhh.

[ jesus fucking christ on a cracker

That gets Joshua's attention alright. He's dumbstruck for all of two seconds, and then his brain is kicking into crisis mode. ]

--Kari!

[ He takes a step towards her, wanting to help but at the same time not exactly ready to approach the pendant that just stabbed his friend. He shouldn't pull it out, right? You don't pull out puncture weapons, and he's not sure if he should be touching anyone while his skin is glowing anyway, and what the hell that thing just stabbed her in the heart ]

[She still hears his voice, and for a moment tries to reach out towards him. But the moment she moves her lips to try and speak, the pendent begins to spin, as though drilling the coils deeper into her chest. Blood rushes down the front of her uniform and drips from her lips, as she lets out a single, strangled cry of pain.]

[She crashes down to her knees and falls limply on her side, expression frozen in a look of pain and confusion. The pendent locks to the center of her chest and ceases its spinning, steam rising from where it had burned away some of her clothing to make room for itself. But even when the glowing stops, Kari still doesn't move.]

[By all appearances, she looks dead.]

[ ... Kari, if you were still alive you'd probably wish you were glowing like a disco ball instead, too.

Joshua slowly approaches, half wary of the pendant lashing out again, half wary of something else going spectacularly weird within the span of five minutes. When he gets close enough he leans in to try to check her pulse, but the energy swirling around him flickers and reacts before he can even touch her, and he pulls back again.

Alright, looks like that isn't an option. He glances around them to see if they've happened to catch the attention of anyone else around. (Un?)fortunately for them, the street seems deserted. ]

Dammit.

[He won't have to mull over this for too long, at least.]

[Not long after Josh tries to take her pulse, she gasps, and then quickly pushes up off the ground and scoots backwards, almost like a delayed reaction to those gold coils striking her before. Her eyes are wide and she looks, understandably, freaked out. She hasn't noticed that she looks like an extra in a zombie movie just yet, but her voice sounds ragged and stressed nonetheless.]

What the fuck just happened!?

... You're alive.

[ Yeah we can leave aside the rest of everything for now because what the fuck, Kari. I mean, Josh is glad and all but what the fuck. ]

How the hell did you survive that?

W-What? Of course I'm alive! Don't say creepy stuff like-- a-ahh!!

[She just reached up to wipe her mouth and pulled back a hand that was covered in blood. And when she went to wipe it on her shirt, she found it both in tatters and also covered in blood.]

[Her immediate reaction is to bring her hand to her chest, pressing down as though to cover a wound -- but all she finds is the pendent, still hot and stuck to her chest.]

W-What... w-what happened to me!? What is this!?

Your homicidal pendant, that's what. Beyond that, your guess is really as good as mine at this point.

How can you be so calm!? I-I mean, look at me! I look like I got hit my a car or something! A-And you! You're still weird too!

[Right away she tries to pull the pendent off -- but finds she can't. It's stuck tight against her chest, only furthering her distress.]

I-It won't come off!

Don't touch that!

[ jfc Kari do you have no sense of self-preservation ]

It stabbed you. Pull it out and you will bleed to death.

But... b-but I can't just leave it there! What the hell am I supposed to do!?

Leave it there. [ If you're still alive then let's try not to change that. ] We should find a doctor and have them try to pry it--

[ But his words are cut off as a loud screeching sound starts to emanate from Joshua, as the energy swirling around him picks up in intensity.

It takes several seconds before both fade back to the level they were at before. ]

... I don't think I should try doing that again.

[The noise is enough to make Kari reach up and cover her ears -- and thankfully distract her from the fact that she's still more or less covered in her own blood. She doesn't drop her hands until she's sure the noise is gone.]

...w-what's even wrong with you? I'd say you need a doctor too, but I don't even know what I'm looking at.

Well, I appear to be a decade or two older than I actually am, lit up like a Christmas tree, and whatever all this is [ he waves a hand, trying to indicate the energy swirling around him ] seems to not like me touching things. Not to mention I'm hearing voices, I'm not certain I'm actually breathing anymore, and I have a lot of mental buttons that don't seem to want to be pushed.

But aside from that, nothing's really wrong with me as far as I can tell.

And why did weird things start happening at the same time? I mean, i-it's too weird to be a coincidence, you know?

[ Though considering the way they both are panicking, if in their own different ways, it's not surprising that that fact got lost somewhere along the line. ]

Oh, I have no doubt these are related somehow. You surviving something like that and me... doing whatever I'm doing are both not exactly things you'd see in the average day, after all.

Now is hardly the time for sarcasm! [Sorry if she sounds a little snippy but she kinda sorta just got impaled. And is still covered in blood. Seriously, should she even be conscious right now??]

[Somehow she manages to stand up without feeling dizzy, but the stress was beginning to make her nauseous.]

I-I... I need to get to a hospital or something. And you too!

... You do know how far we are from the hospital, right?

[ ~~Push those mental buttons, Joshua, one of them will teleport you! One of the others might take out an entire city block, though, so choose wisely.~~ ]

Yeah, well you got any better ideas? I'm not just going to sit around here and hope for the best!

[Though the more she thinks about it, the more she begins to wonder. This just felt too freaky to be some kind of accident. Maybe going to the hospital would be pointless?]

[ These are the mental gymnastics Joshua has already done, but Kari is more than welcome to do them herself, too. ]

First off, can you check if you're actually still bleeding?

[ Though as he looks at the pendant, he has a realization, and after a couple seconds turns around.

Making sure they both make it through whatever the hell is going on alive takes priority far more than teasing her about him using this to get a glimpse of her chest. ]

[She almost pipes back how could she not be bleeding, but instead takes the opportunity to check when he turns around. He'll hear the sound of fabric ripping as she tears a clean strip away from the bottom to wipe the blood away from around the pendent -- and also the sound of her trying very hard not to start crying at how freaked out she is over all of this.]

...i-its not bleeding. And it... doesn't even hurt. But I don't know if that's just shock or whatever.
