Haha, I suppose that is true.

[He gets himself a little more comfortable in the seat]

Though if you only gamble with money, you will be missing out.

Shouldn't you only gamble with things you're prepared to lose? [Ok, now she's being contrary for its own sake, a little bit, considering she's right here at the gambling table and probably likely to risk a little more than she should if she thinks she can get it back.]

When you gamble for love, you can experience heartbreak, but it doesn't mean that risking isn't worth the potential benefits. Pearls do not lie on the seashore. If you want one you must dive for it.

Unless you're gambling with my money, I don't tell you what's worth the risk or not. [So don't tell her what's worth it, either. People? Kind of aren't. All his talk about love and heartbreak? Definitely involves people.]
tea_lover64: (Iroh Buh)

[personal profile] tea_lover64 2013-10-30 12:37 am (UTC)(link)
You asked me a question, I merely answered.

[He will raise his eyebrow a bit at her. The monotone voice reminded him a bit of Mai]

Right. Maybe we should play a hand instead. If you're still ready for the challenge.

[personal profile] tea_lover64 2013-10-30 04:04 pm (UTC)(link)
Certainly. I'm always up for a challenge.
mysicksadlife: (just as planned)

[personal profile] mysicksadlife 2013-10-30 10:55 pm (UTC)(link)
You do realize I'll take as much of your money as you're willing to wager, right? [Someone over here hasn't realized just what Iroh's gentle and slightly awkward old man persona hides.]
tea_lover64: (Pleasant)

[personal profile] tea_lover64 2013-10-30 10:57 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh well, money doesn't particularly matter that much to me. I'm sure you could use it for something you'll enjoy.

[The basis of warfare is deception, though the statement is clothed in truth. He didn't particularly care that much about the money, but as many he did enjoy winning]

aka Daria Meets Her Match

[personal profile] mysicksadlife 2013-10-30 11:46 pm (UTC)(link)
You're on. Let's get started. [Yep she's ready for the deal now. And when they're all settled and it comes, her face gives absolutely nothing away as she surveys her cards. It's one of the benefits of being born deadpan.]

To be fair, competent adults are rare in Daria's world.

[personal profile] tea_lover64 2013-10-30 11:52 pm (UTC)(link)
[Iroh's expression changes as the cards are dealt, to one that is contemplative and calm, very zen like.]
mysicksadlife: (Default)

This is very true.

[personal profile] mysicksadlife 2013-10-31 01:46 am (UTC)(link)
[Daria regards Iroh for a moment. That's definitely a bit different from a moment ago, and she does notice it.]

You have some experience.

[He gives his beard a stroke]

Its one of the main benefits of being old.

[personal profile] mysicksadlife 2013-10-31 02:10 am (UTC)(link)
[A tell, or a feint? She can't be sure without having ever played with him before, but Daria is mildly suspicious of that beard-stroking!]

What other benefits are there?

[Sometimes an action can be just that, silly]

Well, there is of course the benefit of being able to take long naps, and people don't expect you to work.

[Not during poker, it can't. Or, usually isn't, anyway.]

They also put you in crowded homes with nothing to do, because they'd rather pay someone else to have to deal with you than visit you themselves or have you clutter up their lives.

[personal profile] tea_lover64 2013-10-31 01:57 pm (UTC)(link)
[Sneaky Iroh is sneaky]

Huh, that doesn't sound pleasant. I haven't heard of that happening in my time.

[Old people all know each other, so that'd be put down quickly]

[personal profile] mysicksadlife 2013-11-01 07:11 am (UTC)(link)
[She's just going to go with 'back in his time because he's old.]

No. Back in your time, people usually had their parents come live with them instead, or something like that.

[For once, she's tactful enough not to mention this means the burden was put on people who weren't always equipped for it instead of people trained for it. But she's thinking it.]

[personal profile] tea_lover64 2013-11-01 04:40 pm (UTC)(link)
Actually I know a great many people who are my age or lower who still are leaders in their communities. One friend of mine rules a kingdom, and he is over a hundred. One of the most competent warriors in the world, in fact.

[You missed the memo about the Avatar world. Getting older isn't a bad thing, its gaining levels]
mysicksadlife: (Default)

[personal profile] mysicksadlife 2013-11-02 12:46 am (UTC)(link)
[Alright, that's enough to prompt Daria to drop the act a bit.]

That's actually pretty impressive. But you'd be hard put to find someone capable of that where I'm from.

[personal profile] tea_lover64 2013-11-02 12:51 am (UTC)(link)
With the right exercise, diet and mindset it is quite possible to stay active late into life. Perhaps there is a lack of that in your world?

[The whole other worlds thing is still pretty new to him]

[personal profile] mysicksadlife 2013-11-02 03:03 am (UTC)(link)
People are fatter and lazier. [She has plenty of evidence and numbers to back that statement up, too.] I'm sure it doesn't help their quality of life later on.
tea_lover64: (Playing a game)

[personal profile] tea_lover64 2013-11-02 03:13 am (UTC)(link)
I see. Well it is always possible to make a change if so desired, even later on.

[He had gained some weight and worked it off]

I'll raise.

[personal profile] mysicksadlife 2013-11-02 07:39 am (UTC)(link)
Are you sure about that? [Whether she means the philosophy or the card choice, she doesn't say, and she really gives no signs of what type of fakeout that probably is.]
tea_lover64: (Playing a game)

[personal profile] tea_lover64 2013-11-02 07:47 am (UTC)(link)
Always.

[To both questions]
