"Oooh. A truly brave opponent." Loki gestured grandly toward his large pile of chips. "Take what you like."

Rogue rested her champagne glass on the table and then hooked her finger in Loki's collar, pulling him closer. "I already have."

She gave a lingering kiss to his lower lip and then released him, moving to slide off his lap.

Loki might have looked ever-so-slightly poleaxed when she pulled away, though he recovered quickly and smirked. "Who else is brave enough to stay in?"

It seemed the other opponents were, and another woman (though not nearly as pretty as Rogue, in his opinion) slid in to fill the other seat.

In this context, Rogue decided that poleaxed was a very good thing. Smiling a little to herself, Rogue stood beside him and smoothed down her dress, in part so he'd have the chance to properly admire it since she didn't think he'd actually seen it at all, and in part because it had gotten twisted around when he'd pulled her into his lap.

She took her seat and a modest amount of tokens from Loki's pile. She probably could go get her own, but this was much more fun, and she didn't really want to walk away. The other woman gave Rogue one of those covert,assessing stares and frowned while Rogue pretended not to have seen it. She wasn't here to challenge anyone; she was here to flirt with her boyfriend and play poker.

"So have any of you tried the chocolate mousse?" Rogue said innocently. She stared at the cards as they were being dealt. "I do enjoy it when it's served the right way."

She flicked her gaze to Loki then.

Loki did inspect the dress, and was very pleased by the result. He made no secret of either of those things, watching her as she moved around the table.

Chocolate mousse. He licked his lips, and it had nothing to do with the idea of mousse.

"If you two are done flirting," one of the remaining men said, sounding annoyed, "Let's get the next hand." That prodded the dealer back into activity.

"We're never done," Loki murmured, amused.

The other still seemed more interested in conversation. "I like mousse. And cheesecake."

Rogue decided that if Annoyance Man was so easily annoyed by a bit of innocuous conversation, then he would really be better off seated elsewhere. She'd work on wiping him out first.

And keep flirting with Loki. Her tone remained perfectly conversational, if slightly speculative, addressing the gentleman who had picked up bait not meant for him. It didn't matter, she could work with it, "It's quite a spread they put out there. All kinds of delicacies. I bet there are some types of dessert I haven't even tried yet."

Loki still managed to give his freshly dealt cards an intent look, but his attention had wandered a bit. Rogue was doing this on purpose. He liked it. "We can't have that, now can we?"

Annoyed Man gave them both a look. Loki smiled charmingly. "Don't like sweets?" he purred.

"He might just not have had any in a while," Rogue put in helpfully, her voice innocent. "It can be easy to underestimate how good something is if you haven't experienced it."

She calmly put down two cards for the dealer to change.

Annoyed man wasn't in the least bit fooled. He rolled his eyes. "Too much dessert and you get fat," he said.

"Rude," Loki remarked casually. Yes, he would be trying to destroy that player, himself. "I certainly hope you're not implying anything." He did a quick mental calculation and handed over three cards, before turning his attention back to Rogue. "Though my own sweet tooth would like to be indulged, I think, now that you've mentioned it."

The other man, ever hopeful, asked Rogue, "Can you show me where the desserts are? Those sound awesome."

"I'm in the middle of a game now, sugar." She picked up her two cards and fanned them into her hand. "But it's hard to miss the buffet. The line's a mile wide. That's okay, though. Some things are worth the wait." She glanced at Loki. "An' I hear this is all you can eat."

Annoyed Man made an annoyed sound, but he was frowning at his cards. It was far too exaggerated a frown.

"Oh..." Dessert man sighed, knowing he'd been rebuffed.

Loki, for his part, smiled. "Is that so? My appetites are rather legendary, though..."

Rogue gave a brief laugh. "The way you eat? I'm astonished."

She put in her bet. "You're just so picky."

Loki raised her bet with a lazy movement of his hand. With a show of great reluctance, Annoyed Man did as well.

"I just know what it is I want," Loki drawled.

Rogue eyed the pile and her cards, then decided that she would drive the bet up so that Loki could wipe Annoyed Man out. It would be more fun that way.

"Oh, is that it," Rogue said mildly. She met and raised the bet, not enough to scare Annoyance Man off, but leaving her with very few chips. It would be bait that she didn't think he could resist and Rogue wanted him gone; he was spoiling the mood. "But I hope that won't keep you back from tryin' new things..."

Loki read what Rogue was doing; he knew her well enough now, and knew she found the man annoying. He carefully counted out his chips and added a few more. He'd played with the man enough that he knew how to draw him in.

And it was obvious the man thought he had a good hand. Let him think that; Loki would play up the reluctance. A little slight of hand would ensure he came out on top if necessary. He hadn't been caught yet; he was a god of trickery, after all. Lack of magic just meant he had to have more care.

"Oh, you know. I do love to try new things." He grinned. "Even if I need a bit of incentive at times."

Dessert Man folded and Annoyance Man grumbled and raised the bid. Rogue sighed a little and went all in. It was the only way she could stay in the game, and really, her hand wasn't all that bad. And if worst came to worst, she was fairly confident that Loki could win it, and then maybe they could both go get a drink...

"Incentive? What happened to the experience bein' incentive in and of itself?"

Loki checked his cards again, then called the Annoyed Man's bet. The man smirked and flipped over a straight. "More play, less dessert."

...she'd apologize to Loki later, even after the set-up, she could beat this smug jerk. And so she would. Rogue's face fell slightly, "No dessert?"

She put her cards on the table - flush. "And I was startin' to get so hungry."

Loki considered his options, and decided he liked the idea of Rogue winning. He flipped his cards to reveal two pair, smiling. "I'm afraid I can't offer anything nearly so pretty. I hope the lady hasn't lost her appetite entirely."

"Who, me?" Rogue said, raking her chips in, much to the disgust of Annoyed Man. "I'm just gettin' started."

Loki gave the man a sharp smile. "In for another?" They'd be able to clean him out completely in another hand, he thought, perhaps two. "You don't seem played out."

The man crossed his arms across his chest. "Still some fight left in this dog."

Rogue was tempted to make some kind of comment having to do with promises and stamina, but it was too easy, and besides, she didn't really want to speculate.

She gave Loki a smile instead and took a sip of her champagne. Dessert Man struck up a mild conversation with the other woman at the table while the dealer dealt the cards.

"I wonder if they have any ladyfingers," Rogue said, a touch absently. "I bet they taste great dipped in coffee."

Loki licked his lips again. "It sounds lovely. Full bodied. I'd rather like to try."

The next hand was dealt. Hr checked his cards casually.

"You might like 'em," Rogue said, putting down a single card. "They're light. Kinda lemony."

She usually enjoyed poker, but right now, Rogue was starting to get hungry. They'd wipe this guy out first, maybe play just a few more rounds...

"I'll try nearly anything once," he remarked.

Even being honest. That had worked out shockingly well.

He drove another round of betting. "And I'd rather things be more interesting than just sweet, as you know."
