[Ooh, more kissing. Kissing is good, and Gai is happy to return it... that is, until he hears Elizabeth's voice.

Whoops. "Awkward" does not even begin to cover this.

Quickly he pulls away, trying to think of some kind of excuse for this that isn't going to make Elizabeth angry with both of them.

... yeah, he's got nothing.]

Elizabeth...

[When she said 'Have fun you two', she hadn't meant... this.]

[Elizabeth makes a noise halfway between 'What are you doing?' and 'I can't even' and 'This is the last time I eat cotton candy'.]

Gai! [Yes, there's the angry. But that's followed shortly by complete and utter discombobulation. Her brain catches up with her mouth, providing thoughts such as 'Gai punched Shu a few weeks ago' and 'Gai nearly punched another person because of this mix-up with the lines and begrudgingly went with Shu', in addition to 'Gai isn't this idiotic to kiss someone else right in front of you'.]

What... what is going on here? [Now she's just mystified.]

[Shu's still feeling madly in love with Gai...even though the boat ride ended. He's going to tell Elizabeth how he feels about Gai! Shu thinks this is the only solution.]

I confessed my love for Gai. I think he understands how I feel and that's why we're...[Holding hands and kissing like it's no big deal. Does he even need to say that part out loud? This sounds very unlike Shu and Elizabeth can notice that much already.]

I'm sorry. Gai, say something.

[That's a good enough start to make Gai feel a little less awkward about this whole thing. It's still weird, but not as much as it was before Shu explained what was going on. It hasn't even occurred to him that there might be more at work here than just love suddenly being in the air.]

I had no idea he'd felt this way about me for such a long time. I can't believe I never saw it, even after all of the time we'd spent together.

[Sorry, Elizabeth. Your boyfriend's brain is in another castle.]

What?

[Elizabeth is shifting from confusion to hurt rather quickly. Because as much as her logical brain is telling her that something is wrong, there's a very clear indication that Elizabeth is about to be left for the boy who couldn't go three minutes without apologizing for something.]

But... [She blinks, still too bewildered to cry.] ...but what about me? Don't you love me, Gai?

[Shu reluctantly moves away from Gai, giving him space and time to decide. He doesn't want to be left for Elizabeth, but he wants to respect Gai's decision.]

Answer her. This is your job, Gai. Just know that I love you too.

[WHAT WHY IS THIS HIS DECISION, that is totally unfair. Shu was the one who confessed to him, not the other way around!

Torn, he looks back and forth between the two of them. The Shift is warring hard with his real emotions, making this a hard question to answer.]

Of course I do. But I love Shu too. I can't deny my feelings for either one of you.

[Elizabeth is very, very close to hauling off and punching Shu ~~since it's her turn~~. 'Just know I love you too', how dare Shu twist Gai's arm like that?]

[...provided these feelings were real, and Gai is certainly treating them as such. She's still confused as to how this has happened in the span of four minutes, which is the only thing that's keeping her from falling apart completely outside the ride.]

Well I don't--! [Elizabeth is about to let Gai have it, let him know that she isn't going to 'share' Gai with Shu the Limp Noodle, when a familiar set of faces is carried off the ride, fully mounted on whatever that is. And Elizabeth knew the two of them hadn't said anything to one another while in line.]

[She looks at the lines, at the entrance again, and starts to formulate a hypothesis.]

I don't...! Know what to say! This is very sudden... Did you figure this all out in the boat?

[He gives Gai a look before nodding to Elizabeth. Yes, they figured out everything on the boat and within four minutes at that.]

I want to be with Gai-[Shu interrupts himself for a minute. There's a different name he's going to use here.]

No, Triton for the rest of my life. We've spent a long time together and I finally understood that what I felt towards Triton was love. [Shu's using "that name" for Gai. If Gai loved him then he wouldn't mind it being used here.]

Yeah, we did.

[He's about to ask how she knew that when Shu interrupts him and uses That Name. Suddenly Gai is a bit unsure about this whole thing. Being with Shu is one thing. Having his past and his old name brought up in front of Elizabeth? Not sure if want, even if he does love Shu.]

... I haven't used that name in years. It's no longer who I am. If you really love me the way you say you do, then you'll accept that.

[Well now. Four minutes for true love. That sounds very convenient.]

[Or it sounds like a shift, and Gai and Shu will be gargling mouthwash the second it wears off. The image nearly makes her laugh out loud, she has to bite her lip to keep it stifled.]

Well, I'm so glad the two of you worked it out. [She steps forward and takes their hands, putting them together in a dramatic gesture.] I knew the moment I saw you two together that it wouldn't be long. That's why I put you both on the boat, obviously.

[Then, she stretches up on her toes and puts a kiss on Gai's cheek.] Don't worry about me, Gai. I'm happy that you're happy, trust me.

Just do me a favor and don't start your relationship fighting, alright?

[Shu's not really quite sure what caused Elizabeth to suddenly be okay with this. She seemed pretty upset, but it works in their favor. (for now)]

I don't know how to thank you. Shouldn't we head on over to the petting zoo? Elizabeth wanted to go earlier.

You don't mind, do you Gai? [Shu's going to be grasping at Gai's hand when Elizabeth puts them together dramatically.]

Gai and I love each other too much to fight over it. [His attention is to Gai now.] I'm sorry about calling you that, Gai. My sister was fond of that name so I wanted to do her a favor by not forgetting this time.

[Gai reaches out a hand to rest on Elizabeth's shoulder after she kisses his cheek and gives her an appreciative nod, pleased that both Shu and Elizabeth are happy with how things have worked out.]

Don't worry, fighting is the last thing on my mind right now.

[When Shu squeezes his hand, Gai actually smiles at him and squeezes right back. This really is shaping up to be a wonderful day so far.]

I don't mind at all if that's what you want to do. A petting zoo sounds like fun-- just like the one we used to go to on Oshima.

[The apology mollifies him enough to just shrug the use of his childhood name off... which is probably for the best.]

And I'm not angry with you for that, but I'd prefer it if you didn't call me by that name again. I'm Gai now, not Triton.

Well, I'm glad we've cleared that up. [Elizabeth claps her hands as though to close the subject of Gai's name. Though she can be certain that 'Triton' is going to be a topic of conversation once Gai comes to himself.]

Come on, I need to pet a rabbit. [The fluffiest one she can find. Because damn, she has a feeling she's going to need something relaxing to keep her from laughing.]

[Shu goes in for another kiss.]

Let's get going. [If Gai will let him then Shu will be trying to hug Gai as well. ]

[SHU NOT IN-- okay, fine, he'll kiss back, but only because it's Shu. That's the only reason he allows the hug, too.]

[Alright, so, maybe it's a little annoying to watch Shu and Gai kiss in public. Because that should be her, damn it, but a shift is a shift. The two of them really couldn't help it, much to Elizabeth's relief. If only she had something she could take pictures with...]

[She leads them to the petting zoo, where she immediately becomes attached to a very fluffy rabbit. Much better.]

[All of the pet animals here look so cute! Is what Shu would have originally thought if his mind wasn't so preoccupied with Gai. This is the worst shift.]

Is it bad that I'm kissing you here? [Shu might be under a shift, but he's still Shu. He's insecure about the whole thing for one reason or another.]

[Okay, that bunny IS pretty cute... cute enough that Gai can't quite resist the urge to pet another one. Just a couple of times, to see if it really is as soft as it looks, that's all.]

It's fine, as long as you don't make too big a deal out of it.

[Gai is, under normal circumstances, fairly reserved about his own affections. Just making out in public really isn't his thing.]

[...aw. Gai petting a bunny. Elizabeth's heart melts a little, and she resolutely resists the urge to roll her eyes when Shu starts questioning what (in her opinion) was a very good thing. This was crazy. If she didn't stop thinking about how she could be doing all of this with Gai, instead of Gai doing it with Shu, she was going to start to get resentful.]

We have an entire week here. I'll spend time with him tomorrow. [She mutters to the bunny. It wriggles its nose at her.]

[...yes, Mr. Bunny, that is an excellent idea.]

Gai! Do you have your phone with you? [She stands up, cradling the bunny as she approaches the happy couple.] Let me take a picture of you both!

[Because being able to laugh about this later is the only thing that will save her from getting too bent out of shape.]

Don't worry, I won't. [It's Shu's choice if he wants to kiss in public or not. As long as no one walks up to them and starts asking why they're kissing in public he doesn't mind it.]

He seems fond of you. [Shu's trying his best to sound as gentle as he can towards Elizabeth. They both love Gai and that makes it sort of awkward for him.]

Mhmm..a photo's a good idea. [Within minutes Shu will regret saying that.]

I think Elizabeth should keep a picture of herself and the bunny. What do you think, Gai?

Yeah, it's in my pocket. Hold on...

[He reaches into his pants pocket and withdraws said phone, flipping it open to reveal the holoscreen and getting it set up to take a picture.]

We can get pictures of both; there's plenty of room on here for them. I won't be able to print them out, but at least they'll be there. I'll see about finding some kind of printer later. Maybe there's a place around here that has one I can borrow.
