Since I was maybe ten or so. Or that's when I started practicing on my own anyhow. If you're talking about fighting as in being trained, I never have.

Depending, practice on your own can be more important than formal training. I've done both since I was six.

Knives mostly.

[She raises up a hand here, the edge of one of her spring-loaded holsters shown around her wrist.]

I have some experience with throwing knives and stars. Recently I prefer the sword.

Are stars the same things as shuriken? I borrowed a few of those when I first arrived.

Exactly the same. [Now he's curious who she's met, but he won't push that just yet.]

How did you like them?

They aren't too bad. Different weight, different feel. I've gotten a little more used to directing them.

[After practicing on the walls of her room for days on end.]

[There's a pause while Mai studies him a moment. Then she offers a faint smile, the first of the conversation and one not so tinged in sarcasm or wanting to border more of a smirk than a smile.]

You'd have to be more entertaining that what I usually practice on.

[His own smile is still half-smirk... but for that, it's pretty genuine compared to previous. Sasuke can honestly say he likes this girl's attitude.]

I'd like to think so.

The one piece of bullshit nonsense that's actually useful in the enclosure.

[He won't care if she's not, but it'll make it harder to know exactly what her bubble is like otherwise. Harder to practice after this "moon" bullshit is over, too.]

There's a guide you should read if you haven't. I can send it to you if no one has. There are other prison-villages like ours; they call them enclosures. Apparently everyone from all of them is mingling here.

Anyway. [Back to what's obviously more important.] There's a large dome on the edge of town. It has chambers that display illusions - good ones. Tactile as well as audiovisual. They're useful for battle simulation.

More high technology, huh.

[Mai settles back in her seat, mulling this over. She isn't sure how much she likes all of this technology, aside from Asami's glove. That intrigued her.
Then she nods a bit, adding.]

That sounds better than doing absolutely nothing. I'll go give it a look once this idiocy is over.

That's what they're calling it. I don't believe there isn't some kind of supernatural manipulation going on.

"Absolutely nothing" is unfortunately popular. It's good to know I'm not the only one bored out of my head by it.

It's popular everywhere, mostly because you have people complacent in letting others do their thinking - and their acting - for them.

[Sasuke makes a distinctly unpleasant face at that.]

That's the truest thing ever spoken. I wonder how much closer we'd be to escaping this place if fewer people were content to do nothing.

[Here she offers a shrug, her own expression bland.]

I don't typically like dwelling on fairy tales that will never come true.

[She reaches for her tea cup.]

The majority of people are self-serving. If it works for them then that's all they care about. You'll never have fewer people content because that's what serves them well.

[...Honestly, there's not a lot Sasuke can say in response to that. She's hit the nail on the head. Instead he shrugs, and lifts his own tea cup to her words before having a sip.]
