enchantressofore: Thanks to Tarot for the B/W bases! (I am not certain that I understand.)

[personal profile] enchantressofore 2014-03-02 01:41 am (UTC)(link)
Have you been busy with officiating ceremonies?

[The laughter, oddly enough, lets her relax more as she leans back onto one palm where she's sitting. In fact, she gestures for him to sit next to her if he wants to so that she can keep up the conversation with him more comfortably.]
tea_lover64: (Listening with tea!)

[He nods a little at the gesture and slowly brings himself down, folding his legs neatly as he does so out of ingrained habit]

Not as many as I thought might occur this week, but that is probably for the best. Marriage is after all a lifelong commitment.
enchantressofore: Thanks to Tarot for the B/W bases! (I wonder what my uncle is doing...)

[personal profile] enchantressofore 2014-03-02 02:18 am (UTC)(link)
That it is, but even so I trust that the ones that did happen were joyful events.

[In spite of herself she smiles a little, her eyes turning back to the water once more as she slips into deeper thought.]

Have you seen any friends or family of yours here, Iroh? From your home that is.
tea_lover64: (Playing a game)

[personal profile] tea_lover64 2014-03-02 11:35 am (UTC)(link)
Of course! As all marriages should be.

[He looks at the water himself. His tone goes a little lower]

My nephew was here when I first arrived, but he has since returned home. Aang and his companions are also here, and we struck up a friendship later on, so there are a few friends from home. Actually the majority of my family save my nephew, I am sad to say would not bring me great happiness.

[For some reason Iroh felt the need to tell a little bit about his family]

We are a complicated family.

[To put it mildly. Many royal families over the years were though]
enchantressofore: Thanks to Tarot for the B/W bases! (Thoughts of home)

[personal profile] enchantressofore 2014-03-02 07:19 pm (UTC)(link)
Ah, is that right?

[For some reason the expression on her face is a bit more sad. She looks to the water again, frowning.]

I suppose it is the same for me, save for seeing any of my family here. My uncle is truly the only one I can call close to me. My father passed away when I was very young, and my mother left me in my uncle's care soon after that. I had no one else.
tea_lover64: (Listening with tea!)

[personal profile] tea_lover64 2014-03-02 11:58 pm (UTC)(link)
Mmmmmmm. My father was a strict man, a prodigy when it came to strategy and firebending prowess, but not a particularly caring individual. While he did expand the Fire Nation territories and improved our defenses significantly, I wonder what the world would have been like had he used his power for the good of all instead of just the Fire Nation.

[Not something he usually muses about in public with people he hardly knew. Even those he had spoken with a great deal did not hear many misgivings from him]
enchantressofore: Thanks to Tarot for the B/W bases! (Just this once my guard is lowered.)

[personal profile] enchantressofore 2014-03-03 05:41 pm (UTC)(link)
It... Likely would have been very different, though I could not say I would know for certain. However, as much as we may wish for otherwise, there is nothing gained in dwelling over what we cannot change...

[After a moment she laughs softly, her eyes closed.]

At least, I believe that is what my uncle would say to you. As irritating as he may be sometimes, I do think of him as wise.
tea_lover64: (The way of Tea)

[personal profile] tea_lover64 2014-03-03 06:16 pm (UTC)(link)
[He laughs as well]

Yes, I have said similar things. There is only what you do with what you are given that matters truly. I like to think that I have done some good in my time, and helped others.

[He looks out at the lake]
enchantressofore: Thanks to Tarot for the B/W bases! (Maybe you are not so terrible.)

[personal profile] enchantressofore 2014-03-03 06:19 pm (UTC)(link)
I would like to think you have as well - and are still continuing to do so here, bringing people together on such a special day as a wedding... Not just anyone could do such a thing.
tea_lover64: (Tsungni Horn)

[personal profile] tea_lover64 2014-03-03 06:22 pm (UTC)(link)
I like to think people bring themselves together, I am just there to make it official. The strings of fate bring those who love one another together.
enchantressofore: Thanks to Tarot for the B/W bases! (Perhaps I will show some gratitude.)

[personal profile] enchantressofore 2014-03-03 06:23 pm (UTC)(link)
Still, their ceremony could not have been completed without your aid, could it?
tea_lover64: (Default)

[personal profile] tea_lover64 2014-03-03 06:28 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm sure it could. My role is largely ceremonial. Love blooms where it will.

[He smiles]

It is an honor to be part of the formalization of it though.
enchantressofore: Thanks to Tarot for the B/W bases! (Just this once my guard is lowered.)

[personal profile] enchantressofore 2014-03-05 05:33 pm (UTC)(link)
[Gosh Iroh let her praise you. Still, she doesn't seem annoyed but just shakes her head, the ghost of a smile still lingering on her face when she does.]

I am sure that there are other things you can do to help others here as well.
tea_lover64: (The way of Tea)

[personal profile] tea_lover64 2014-03-05 06:10 pm (UTC)(link)
[He nods]

Well, one can certainly hope.
enchantressofore: Thanks to Tarot for the B/W bases! (Maybe you are not so terrible.)

[personal profile] enchantressofore 2014-03-06 08:33 pm (UTC)(link)
Your tea store can help in a way, can it not? You are sharing your gift in the form of good, hot tea that not many would be able to prepare themselves.
tea_lover64: (Iroh)

[personal profile] tea_lover64 2014-03-06 11:59 pm (UTC)(link)
Well there is a proverb better to go without food for three days than go without tea for one.
enchantressofore: Thanks to Tarot for the B/W bases! (What are you blathering about?)

[personal profile] enchantressofore 2014-03-08 09:40 pm (UTC)(link)
... Of course.

[No Iroh she's not giving you a strange look for that one at all, whatever would give you that idea?]
tea_lover64: (Tsungni Horn)

[personal profile] tea_lover64 2014-03-08 09:53 pm (UTC)(link)
Yes, it is a most civilized drink. Very good for your health, both body and soul!

[He'll just continue on ignoring the look, since he is a man who adores his tea]
enchantressofore: Thanks to Tarot for the B/W bases! (What are you blathering about?)

[personal profile] enchantressofore 2014-03-08 09:55 pm (UTC)(link)
... You must truly enjoy your tea.
tea_lover64: (Relaxing)

[personal profile] tea_lover64 2014-03-08 10:01 pm (UTC)(link)
[He laughs at the comment]

Yes, many have said that. It is not something I make a secret of.
enchantressofore: Thanks to Tarot for the B/W bases! (Perhaps I will show some gratitude.)

[personal profile] enchantressofore 2014-03-08 10:04 pm (UTC)(link)
I have never seen someone so dedicated to it... It is admirable.

[That's a hint of a chuckle and a smile from her, mostly at the elder's enthusiasm at the subject.]
tea_lover64: (The way of Tea)

[personal profile] tea_lover64 2014-03-08 10:08 pm (UTC)(link)
Well, I think that if more people in my nation focused on tea instead of warfare, we would be better off.
enchantressofore: Thanks to Tarot for the B/W bases! (Thoughts of home)

[personal profile] enchantressofore 2014-03-08 10:13 pm (UTC)(link)
... I suppose it would be that way almost anywhere.

[A sigh, and she shakes her head before turning back to the lake waters.]

I cannot say I would know with any certainty -- my home is peaceful, and I do not remember a time when my country was at war.

You are fortunate. I was born during the war, and I lived the majority of my life involved in it, in one shape or another.

[It had a strong influence on him to the other direction]

I see... I suppose I truly am fortunate. I have only heard tales from my uncle, who has lived long enough to see it many a time.

It is a thing he despises above all else, so far as I can tell.
