A Gaang Reunion

Summary: Toph and Zuko arrive at the house and information is shared.

Thanks to Appa, the journey to the village was significantly shorter than if he and Toph had walked. Which Zuko took note of as he watched the terrain pass beneath them while on the bison's back. 

Once they were in contact with the ground again, Zuko effortlessly slid off Appa's back and looked at the house that now stood before them. It was no palace, but it was certainly a decent size. 

"Hello?" he called out. Though Zuko was sure that Appa's arrival hadn't gone unnoticed.

[Surprise! Toph's been here, lounging off to the side while the two firebenders caught up.]

Ah, hello Toph. I wondered where you had gotten to.

[He picks up a cup of tea]

[The old man makes the best tea. Toph finally gets up to join the guys where they're sitting.]

[Why was everyone else from the past? With the exception of Avatar Korra and Aangs granddaughter of course.]

Yes, you will find there are many such time changes here. I was able to meet people from over seventy years in the future, including the next incarnation in the avatar cycle, Korra.

It is an incredible thing. There are people from all different sorts of worlds, and time periods.

Imagine a whirlpool. It spins around and around, and can catch things and drag them deep down to new locations. Apparently this will happen from time to time, individuals will be drawn from all different universes.

This world draws people in, trapping them for a time. Some will be stuck for some time, others will come and go. As to why this happens, I am uncertain.

[He has a sip of tea]

The Malnosso however take advantage of the phenomena that happens on this world, and use us to help them against their enemies. As well, they also conduct experiments known as Shifts upon select individuals and the whole enclosure of Luceti.

So we're stuck in a giant space whirlpool?

[Forgive his skepticism. He's always had a hard time understanding his uncles metaphors.]

I've heard about the Malnosso. That they're very powerful but also incompetent.

It is where the waters meet from different directions. As you may or may not know the oceans follow different streams, there are points where they meet up. Think of this place as sort of along those lines, but along a greater scale than even our world.

[Iroh strokes his beard]

Yes, that seems to be the general consensus. They lack a strong solidified leadership and seem to be sort of run a bit like a merchants guild rather than a formal sort of military.

Then it's no wonder they can't defeat their own enemies. And they're pulling us into their war?

[He doesn't like that one bit.]

Yes, though it seems to be primarily a volunteer basis. It does give you access to certain bonuses not otherwise available.

Being able to ground yourself in at least some rudimentary knowledge I found to be quite helpful.

[He pours a cup for himself as well, taking a sip without blowing across the top. Fire benders didn't mind a bit of heat]

Having a good base to work off of? Yeah, that's always really helpful.

[Lucky. Toph doesn't really care though, she'd just rather not have burns on her tongue.]

Well, as you should know already, this is not our world, but a separate one. Sort of like how the spirit world and the material world are separate.

Okay... I guess that makes more sense. I can't remember timebending being a thing back home.

No, I assure you it is not. The closest I have ever heard is trips to the spirit realm where the individual emerged many years later.

Even then, time only moved forward, right? And didn't like...spit people out from whatever time it felt like.

[It hurts her head to think about, ngl.]

Well if you think about it Aang comes from a very different world. He was frozen in time, but for him it felt like only moments before he awoke.

Yeah, but he still only went forward in time. And it's not like it was super random when he woke up, right?
