Who: OPEN to all!
What: Movies, movies, movies! And games and food too.
When: All day Saturday, June 7th (starts 11ish)
Where: Rec Center
Summary: Ginia throws a movie marathon at the rec center for entertainment and post-draft distractions.
Rating: PG-13 for some of the movies shown, but let's keep it around here or lower.

On Thursday, flyers were posted around the village with another notification of the movie marathon and the list of movies that will be shown:

The Sword in the Stone
Grease
Robin Hood: Men in Tights
Moulin Rouge
The Princess Bride
Jurassic Park
Clue
Rocky Horror Picture Show

Come Saturday, the list can also be found outside the rec center. Inside the center, there are tables set up filled with food: fruit and veggie platters, cookies and cake from the bakery, sandwiches, packages of popcorn (with a microwave nearby), and an assortment of packaged candy. As food begins running low, runners will be sent to the stores to bring back more. There are also drinks - water, sodas, juices, tea, and coffee. Alcohol is bring your own, but Ginia also has a small table set aside with some gin, whisky, vodka, and mixers.

Besides what seating is already in the rec center, additional chairs, large cushions, and even two beanbag chairs have been brought in. For those who want to hang out but not watch movies, there's still pool, board games, and a few deck of cards.

Enjoy, relax, and try not to think about the draft.

Well, take it slow then. [There's just a hint of pride in her voice, that someone's complimenting a brew from her hometown.]

So...um...what is this movie about? Jurassic Park?

[The pride is well-deserved; it's a good drink. And as an occasional bartender and someone who appreciates good drinks, it's definitely top shelf.]

/Some scientists find a way to bring dinosaurs back to life and create a theme-slash-education park. From there, it goes downhill. Based off a series of novels./

...Dinosaurus? You mean...those reptiles?

[This gets her attention big time. They're a reminder of a friend, and...well...she didn't quite ever get an education on them in school.]

That sounds exciting. Is it a horror movie, then?

/Those reptiles that died out long ago, yes. And there are a few suspenseful and scary bits, but it's largely an action movie. The thing I love most about the movie is the fact they built life-sized models for some of the dinosaurs. Adds to the realism./

[After the draft, Ginia was slightly hesitant to include Jurassic Park on the movie list. Maybe some parts would be too scary for the audience. But it wasn't war violence, and there weren't dinosaurs out on the draft, so she felt it was safe enough.]

Oh. Huh. That is interesting.

[She's just seen bones in a few museums, after all. And VelociSouji]

I knew they were all gone, I just don't really know much about them. Is any of the movie accurate?

/Not very. They took a lot of creative liberties like most movies do. Still doesn't make it any less entertaining./

Ah. Well, that's a little sad. But...it sounds fun. Is it...new? Or older?

/It was first released in 1993, but there was a re-release in 2013. This is the original. I remember seeing it in the theater with my family when it first came out./

[A small smile, though slightly sad, creeps back onto her face. A wide-eyed girl of twelve so prone to flights of fancy and a wild imagination. It was a wonderful movie, a time when things seemed so simple and calm. When her parents were still alive, she still got along with her brother.]

/I got my niece and nephew a copy. I hear they love the movie too./

You have fond memories of it then?

[She caught that smile, Ginia. And recognizes it for what it is. Today, at least, she's going to pry a little bit. After all, she's beginning to realize she knows very little about you.]

[Truthfully, few people know a lot about Ginia. There are things that a careful observer on the network would know; that she has a brother and a niece and nephew, her parents are dead, that she's from one version of Earth. She's still a person that plays her cards close to her chest.

Sometimes she still wonders why. She was in Luceti before, who knows how many people know her and aren't saying anything, what she's said before.]

/It's a memorable movie and it's hard not liking dinosaurs. It's amazing to think animals that were so large once roamed the planet. Some museums have dinosaur skeletons, they're amazing to see./

[Perhaps so, and normally Saori would just let it go at that, but she's feeling curious, and it's possible the alcohol is beginning to affect her. Or more likely she's using that as an excuse to indulge an idle thought.]

Well, yes. But nostalgia and the attractiveness of a dinosaurus aside...it has meaning to you, doesn't it?

[She'll probably never be able to really say that word right, but...it's always sounded better that way in her head.]

[Ginia pauses to take another drink, this time a little longer. It's a pointed question and Ginia has a feeling Saori is prying. She could deflect or lie, but... hell. If she's not avoiding one memory she's avoiding another and right now Ginia would rather avoid talking about the draft.

She takes another drink and sets the cup down again.]

/It was the last movie I saw with my brother before he left for college./

[For once? Yes, she is. But she's not trying to hide it, and given that Ginia's seen some of Saori's vulnerable moments, a little bit of prying shouldn't be too much of a problem. At least, that's Saori logic.]

I see. I didn't know you had a brother. Was that...a long time ago? I don't know how old this movie is, in your time.

[Saori logic is logic Ginia wouldn't argue against.]

/I still have a brother but we don't talk much anymore. And it was 2018 when I was last in my world./

[When she was last alive, but that doesn't need to be said.]

[It's good logic. Sometimes.]

Six years after mine, I think. Did something happen, with him?

[A lot of things happened and those are things Ginia's not ready to talk about. It's complicated and messy, maybe even a little more so than the draft. Because it's a loose thread and once someone tugs it, Ginia knows a lot of seams will come undone and there's no coming back from that.]

/Just time, different lives. He's six years older than me so after he went to college and began his career, we began drifting apart./

Ah.

[Well, that's really a fairly normal answer, no reason to even think anything more on it. After all, people drift all the time, even family, right?]

What does he do, for his job?

/Actor mostly, but also a little bit of everything. Providing aid to people in need./

[It wasn't quite a lie, not even by omission. Avery would always be an actor as such was needed for a grifter. And while he worked less in favor of watching the kids, he still assisted on the occasional job taking down smuggling rings and corrupt officials.]

Oh? An actor? [Saori perks up.] Like in movies and television? Or in plays?

/Plays and musicals. He's a great singer too. There are other dancers so he's not a true triple threat, but he has talent. Looks too. Some people get it all./

Some people do indeed.

[Saori purses her lips, vaguely amused. There was a time when she'd likely have been a little envious of someone like Ginia saying that. She was pretty, and clearly had talents of her own, whereas Saori as a young human woman had been plagued by a myriad of doubts and had been dealing with a divine teacher who had no real idea how to quell them. It'd been a great recipe for incredibly low self-esteem. Though now she can look back on it with more understanding and a sense of self-deprecating humor.]

Like you, in your own way. You're talented and attractive too, you know. It must be genetic.

[Ginia's lips twitch into a slight smile and she bows her head in acceptance of the compliment, but it's a gesture from someone who knows how to accept something she doesn't believe in. As a child, taunted and teased for being unable to speak, shy and undergoing the awkward years all teens went through, Ginai would have given anything to be beautiful and talented.

And here she was now and she couldn't see anything but the blood on her hands, the scars seared into her back, the deep ugly cuts marring her mind and heart. Beautiful? No. Hardly. Maybe on the outside, enough to get compliments, enough to seduce a mark, but she was rotting and crumbling away inside.

But she knows how to take a compliment.]

/Genetics, maybe. My mother was very beautiful. She was also an actress and singer on stage./

[Saori nods at that, and for an instant almost asks if Ginia did the same until she remembers the speech thing. She's gotten a little better at catching herself instead of asking impulsive, and sometimes insensitive questions with obvious answers.]

And what about you? What's your profession?

[Ginia distracts herself with a drink of her gimlet as she tries to figure out how to answer. It's silly; she's been teaching Saori how to shoot and the goddess saw her cut someone down in the draft so it's no secret she can fight and kill. And it's not a secret anyway. It should be easy.

So why is she hesitating? Ginia takes a long drink of her gimlet before setting it down.]

/I'm a bounty hunter. Or was, I retired years ago./

[Saori doesn't know. In fact, she thinks it's outright strange to hide one's profession. Even if you are a potter or something. But while Ginia dithers, she finishes her drink and pours another.]

A bounty hunter? You look for criminals for money, right?
