[Kohan will have to deal with his loss of mancard, because Ion is so not giving up that picture anytime soon. Every time he looks back up at Kohan, eventually his eyes are drawn back down to it, and he smiles even more.]

Of course it is. This is the first time someone's given me a gift like this before. Knowing how much time and effort you put into it makes me really happy.

I'm sure someone else has given you something like this before. Maybe not a drawing...

[Seeing as he still has that stuffed animal sitting in his room on display, he probably hasn't forgotten about that. But this was something Kohan made himself, and he was clearly thinking of Ion when he drew it. That made it special.]

That may be so, but that doesn't mean this isn't still important to me.

[So important, in fact, that he's going to take a quick glance around before shortening the distance between them and leeeeaning up on the tips of his toes to plant a short kiss on his cheek.]

[As it turns out, that "moment" ended up being a bit longer than he thought. Every time he showed it to one person, someone else came over and wanted to see it too! Which basically means by the time Ion finally goes to find Kohan again, pretty much everyone at the party has seen the picture. And Ion is practically beaming.]

[Of course, when he sees Kohan off in the corner somewhere, he feels a little bad for wandering away for so long. Oops.]

I suppose that was a little longer than a moment. I hope I didn't keep you waiting?

[Ion's smile wanes for a bit at the response, but then after a moment, he reaches out to take Kohan's hand.]

...say, why don't we go outside for a little while? It's still pretty warm out, even though it's late. And it might be nice to get away from the crowd for a few minutes.

[He knows socializing is not exactly Kohan's forte -- especially for as long as this party has been.]

[ Kohan's quiet for a moment, but then gives a small squeeze to Ion's hand. Maybe he's just a bit tired. He's never really done well around big groups, after all. ]

Sounds good, if... you think it's alright for you to step out like that.

Well, it is my birthday, isn't it? I think I'm entitled to step out for a little while if I want.

[And he's just gonna start leading them both outside. The summer air is cool, but not so much that there'd be a need to grab a sweater or something. And while it's not completely dark yet, it's dark enough to see a few stars beginning to twinkle in the sky.]

[But more importantly, as soon as the door closes behind them, it's nice and quiet. The only sounds to be heard are the faint chirping of crickets and the occasional muffled sounds of someone inside.]

[ It's a breath of fresh air for Kohan, both literally and figuratively. Just being away from the group, off on their own like this, is making him feel much better. It's a weight off his shoulders he didn't even notice was there. ]

... I still don't think I like parties.

[Ion laughs softly.] To be honest, I'm surprised you've lasted as long as you have without leaving to take a break.

[And seeing as they're alone out here, he's just gonna go ahead and take a step closer to Kohan, gently leaning against his arm.]

But I'm really glad you came. It's so nice having everyone together like this.

[ Being alone, this is quite acceptable. ]

... I think keeping to myself has helped.

[ Because even if it means less socializing, it keeps him from ragequitting his boyfriend's birthday party and he would approximately never live that down (if not due to his own conscience, then via the intervention of Ion's many mother hen types). ]

I don't even know how I'd deal with as much attention as you're getting.

[Even if Kohan had ragequit the party, Ion wouldn't have held it against him -- if anything, he'd have felt bad, thinking he could have done something to help Kohan enjoy things more.]

I'm sure it's only because I have more experience with it. As Fon Master, I was always surrounded by all kinds of people. But I still remember how it was when I first started... I couldn't even walk through the city without being overwhelmed by how many people were there.

[Of course, he was only a few months old back then, so it's pretty understandable. He had a high learning curve to deal with, taking over the life of someone as loved and respected as Fon Master Ion.]

Oh... right. I guess compared to that, this many people is probably nothing, huh?

[ Meanwhile Kohan is over here with just island bumpkin memories. ]

How long did it take... to adjust to that?

[He actually has to think about that. When did he start adjusting to it...? It's hard to say.]

...I'm not sure if there ever really was a time when I felt I had finally adjusted to it. For every thing there was that I figured out or became used to, it always seemed like 3 more thing would take its place.

[It felt a little strange talking about this. It was never anything that upset Ion, even when he did feel overwhelmed for the most part. But thinking about it now, he realizes he's never really talked much about it -- his life when he was still growing into the role of "Fon Master Ion".]

If anything, I think I just adjusted to feeling overwhelmed.

How do you adjust to something like that...? That... there must have been so much pressure on you.

...there was. I suppose that pressure is what accounts for what I used to be like before I met Luke and the others. The only way I knew how to deal with it all was to seal my emotions away.

[It seemed like the easier option at the time. Looking back, it really wasn't until Luceti that he was finally able to understand the gravity of doing so.]

It wasn't until I met Sync, another replica of the Fon Master, that I finally understood the feelings I had been dealing with all that time. And by then, I had already been alive for over two years.

[ Kohan is gonna grip Ion's hand now okay? okay. ]

Two years of just... trying not to feel. Two years...

[ For someone who was only alive for two years, who could only remember those two years, how long must that have seemed? ]

It sounds so lonely.

It wasn't... well, not entirely. After all, I had Anise with me.

I may have learned everything about how to be Fon Master from the other Maestros in the Order, but Anise was the one who taught me how to be a person. She was always helping me, and even though I lied to her for so long about what I really was, she never held it against me.
