Who: Gai, Elizabeth, and all invited (and possibly some uninvited) guests
What: A wedding!
When: Just before sunset on June 30th
Where: The beach
Summary: Finally, after much planning, pre-wedding jitters, and ice cream consumed, this is it. The big day. Gai and Elizabeth are finally getting married. (Never mind the fact they've been technically married since the draft... shhhh.)
Rating: Keep it G, people, this is a public venue.

[The ocean has returned, the day is clear and sunny, and wedding fever is back in the air.]

[This time the location is the beach, and between the setting sun, the waves, and the decor there is no lack of ambiance. little battery-powered votives in paper lanters litter the space, and larger lanterns line a yellow petal aisle that leads up to a decorative arch with a few chairs. Over to the side is the reception set up, which looks like it can accommodate more guests than the ceremony. Frames draped with chiffon and lit with little electric light strings indicate both food and bar/drink areas, and similar setups surround both small and large tables for seating, lit both with electric lights and votives in varying glass jars. And of course, there’s music and an open floor for dancing.]

((OOC: Close CR/specifically invited friends are welcome at the ceremony, but the party is definitely for anyone who wants to come see the spectacle or welcome back the ocean! ♥ ))

[ Moment of passionate youth...? God dammit, she really has been getting an impression from Lee. Masaomi sighs and folds his arms behind his head. While yes, he did challenge Hilda, he's actually almost not taking it very seriously here. He rolls his shoulders, and winces a bit as his wings are snagged in this comparatively tight top. Dammit. Damn it all and he was totally going to be able to dance with Crystal and she ruined it and... ]

I don't know, I'll decide after I get a drink too. Unless you just want to make it up to me by giving me a kiss you just stole.

[ WAS THAT TOO MEAN. Whatever not like she's a normal girl. He motions for her to follow as he heads to the bar ]

[That is quite mean. But she follows him, frowning slightly. That's kinda hurtful.]

I would rather you kept your kisses for the girl you are interested in, even if I will have a dance with her before you. [Hilda's confidence is shaking just a little because of his obvious annoyance, but she pushes forward.] I do not think that this small interruption will ruin your night with her.

[ ... Yeah, that was too mean. He sighs. ] ... I appreciate your confidence, Hilda. [ Hilda. No honorific. They're rivals - equals - so of course he's going to be overly familiar with her like that. For now.

[ A beat, and then he itches the back of his head, increasing his stride to the bar ]

[Don't increase your stride, she'll have to do the same. Which she does. The lack of an honorific, from him, is a little weird. Maybe it's because he was annoyed with her?]

You are understandably upset, so I do not mind what I deserve.

[Masaomi is the last person she wants to owe an apology to, but-- He apologized first. So.]

... I do admit it was bad timing on my part, but it is proper to dance with the person you came with before anyone else. I do not apologize for that. I do, however, apologize for not stepping in earlier.

[ She-- pffthaha. Okay, that just makes him burst out laughing. It's a light laugh -not a big one, but one which makes him grab his sides as they near the final stretch towards the bar ]

With that sort of apology you're better of not giving one!

[Whew. Laughter is always good. Hilda relaxes the tension she didn't know she had and simply shrugs her shoulders.]

It eases one's conscience to give an apology, no matter how it is structured. Between you and I, Masaomi, if I shall continue holding you in somewhat high regard, I do believe that you may still have a chance to earn yourself a kiss.

[He's pretty charming after all. And nice. Kind of sweet to girls. It is obvious that he likes Crys and vice versa, and that kind of makes Hilda feel a little envious. To have such trust and interest in another...

She shakes her head and takes a seat, smoothing her dress down. No drinks for her though. She's had enough.]

[ He's being too presumptuous. He knows that he is... he wonders why. Is it because they were at a wedding - because someone else is advancing in a relationship to that extent when he's never made up anywhere near that far? He's got a strong string of failed relationships; Shikamaru has a stable comfortable thing with a girl who rejected him, and he couldn't even have that. Gai is married. Fucking Gai.

... Is it so selfish that he wants that life too?

... Probably. He exhales, and forces a smile on his lips for Ginia, getting himself a double sized appletini before walking back over to Hilda. Oh, she sat. ... He's not sat down all night, so he takes this moment to sit down across from her. ]

Yeah, but if you put it like that, then the apology is solely for the one giving it. It becomes a selfish thing.

One could say that about a number of things. Anything can become selfish if you solely fixate upon one side of the matter.

[Like... Right now, for example, the way she's feeling. It seems so normal, to have something like that... To have something like this in general. The wedding. Lorule lacked in anything of the sort. Hyrule... Hyrule must have things like this very often. With its bright lands and warm skies, surely something like takes places regularly.

Hilda, for the first time tonight, feels kind of out of place. She averts her eyes to the table between them and thinks that maybe she should get a drink after all.]

... Or so I think, if one wishes to make that argument.

[ He takes a long sip from his drink, looking keenly at her. He's not going to get drunk, just a little pleasantly buzzed, if it's only this one drink and he has something to eat. He knows his lips, and he does not intend to break them. But this is somehow another heavier topic - or well no, more esoteric. ]

Mmmm... I can see that argument. But when one's apologizing, shouldn't the catharsis be secondary to repaying the wronged party? In an "ideal" world, anyway.

Certainly. Thankfully, this is not an ideal world, so I suffer little guilt from my honest words.

[Loser. You don't deserve a real apology. Even if she is feeling a little bad for interrupting them like that. The princess stares long and hard at Masaomi's drink, then glances at the bar.]

Would you consider a world ideal if it had no conflict? Where those who apologize mean every word, where there is not such a thing as guilt... Nor sadness, nor anger, nor anything of the sort.

I've never seen an "ideal" world. [ And he takes another long sip. The implication there being, of course, that his world is not ideal. Katara's wasn't either. He's never even heard of one - even some of the closest (like the world(s) of Pokémon) have a lingering danger or darkness to them.] But if I had to put my finger on what might make it ideal... I suppose all of those might be nice, but more important than that...

[ And he runs a finger along the rim of his glass here, and carries on to say: ] I think an "ideal" world would be one where people can unlimitedly pursue their passions and interests without it actually hurting other people. Where people don't want for their "happy endings" and aren't crushed by the weights of their regrets.

[ And as the says that last thing he looks around past Hilda. It's not clear - even to him - if he's looking for the bride, for Crystal, or for some women who aren't even here. ]

[Her own ideal world is so much simpler, something she's dreamed. Lorule, blessed and beautiful and without extortion. Where her people are happy and safe. How it should've been. How Hyrule is. Hilda taps her finger idly on the table before she speaks, watching him carefully. This is sobering. Man.]

Could you truly call yourself content with in a world such as that, where you cannot compare the happiness you obtain to the pain you and others have felt trying to reach that goal? All things come at a price. That is a fundamental law of the world, no matter how "ideal".

[In her experience, it's always been a painful processes, and it's just not something she can fathom a world not having. The drumming intensifies, but she slides her hand across the table to try and take Masaomi's glass from him.]

Though, I suppose I would like to ask you something a little more forward... If it could exist, what would you give up for such a world, Masaomi?

[ What would... he do? Can you consider it happy? These are hard questions, and while he makes to grab his drink again - he sees her reaching for it. He doesn't push it away from her, he actually gently nudges it towards her ]

For me...? I'll never have that sort of power. So I don't need to think about it.

[You are too kind, Masaomi. Too kind. She takes a long sip herself, perplexed at such a simple idea of avoidance. But you're not getting this glass back. Probably.]

At home, in my land of Lorule, there is a legend of a sacred treasure which can grant one's wish simply by touching it. [Hilda keeps the drink by her as she slowly draws a triangle.] Think for a moment that you are able to obtain such a powerful thing. It would be within your grasp. What would you do for it, and would you wish for that ideal world despite any and all consequences of using that power?

[She's tense for his reply, honestly. The underlying intentions have been edging at her mind since she stepped back and reviewed the situation herself.]

[ The power... to make anything happen? A sacred treasure that grants wishes? Masaomi shifts in his seat, actually uncomfortable now - because how did they go from discussing his desire to find love, to a challenge, and possibly even how attractive she is in that dress to end up here. It's deeply personal in a way he's never been comfortable addressing...

But when he's put on the spot like this, he really ought to try. So he keeps her gaze for a long while, thinking. Then, finally, he lowers his eyes to look down at his hands - which seemed to have tensed into things on the table he's not even sure are fists ]

... Probably not. I'm a product of an imperfect world, and the darkness that's in my heart would probably make me wish for my own happiness before I'd wish for anything as altruistic as that.

[ There ]

[Hilda relaxes in response. She is the better person. Where Masaomi would use it for himself, she would use it for all her land. That makes her the better, doesn't it? It certainly does. Even if the cost was high, no matter what happened, so long as she used it for others over herself...

She doesn't really feel victorious, though she speaks easily now.]

Such selfishness is common in those like yourself, but for a ruler our duty is first to our land. Therefore, the happiness of my home would be my happiness as well. It would be inexcusable of me to have such power and not use it in a way that benefits my land, even it should cost my very life.

[If it was to go that far.]

I agree, actually. [ He exhales, lightly, bringing his gaze up to face her ] But I'll never been in that position, and I'll never have that power. But if you will, then that's a call I'm glad you're equipped to make.

[ Die... like some hero. You know he wanted to- ] But. A ruler's responsibility to their land also means they can't afford to die, wouldn't you say?

[Hilda looks away, frowning slightly, and reluctantly pushes his drink back towards him. She won't look at him as she replies evenly.]

Even if I cannot afford to die, if I must, then I will. There will always be another to take my place. That much is understood, when you accept the right to rule.

The experience I have in my world though is that maybe only one in every dozen rulers is just and sound though.

[ And he takes it back - immediately takes a sip. Oblivious to the indirect kiss ]

Should I meet an untimely demise before an heir is sired, then the one who would take my place is my advisor. He has taken care of me since I was a young girl, and so I trust him fully. I need not worry about my kingdom - though I pity your world's sorrowful state.

Ah...ah. Well, for the time being, that's not an immediate concern. [ But that's unfair of him to say. That's just a kneejerk reaction to how deeply unsettling it is to see a young woman - one he knows is younger than him, perhaps the same age he was when he first showed up here - talk like that. Responsibility is impressive, admirable. But her tone here, somehow, is something much closer to resignation. He sips his drink, but then looks down at it, and pushes it back towards her without her even prompting ] Which isn't a slight for your kingdom, but the day to day concern here's something more like "how will I beat Masaomi," right?

Indeed. It amazes me how often I have begun to think about you, even from the moment I wake up. Before... I would think of my land and nothing else.

[It isn't her current concern, thankfully, unless she happens to be sacrificed. Luceti's world is far disconnected from her own for now. She has people to help here. Things she can do. Spirits she can learn from. Masaomi to beat.

It's a pretty great vacation to be honest, even though she'd hate herself for thinking it that way. Can she have the rest of this, Masaomi. Can she. She will.]

Careful, you're going to make that attention go to my head. I might have my interests elsewhere, but I am a man, and you are a beautiful woman.

[ And he leans his elbows onto the counter so that he can rest his chin on his hands, once more checking her out as she takes the drink again. Crystal was not being modest. Hilda is drop dead gorgeous right now, and anyone who denied that needed to take the shit out of their eyes ]

[She smiles slightly over the glass, but she doesn't put it down. It's a ready projectile.]

I am aware of your forwardness, but I do not intend to do anything but defeat you tonight. You challenged me, Masaomi, but may I put forth a suggestion for you to heed?

Who am I to refuse a princess? I didn't even have an idea.
