Well, he did include a picture on the list... hold on a sec.

[And this is where she stops and whips out her smartphone to pull up the photo she took from the aforementioned list.]

It's really shiny like silver, but also has some kind of magical property to it. See, the way those smaller fragments float around it means it must be infused with some kind of energy or magic! And I can't imagine there's that many rocks out here that can do something like that.

[...which she also knows as a fact only because of its prevalence in a certain video game series as a common item for customizing weapons. But she's not going to mention that.]

So it's magical. Meaning, maybe if we have a way to find magic we'll end up being lead to it, you think?

Sounds like a pretty solid hypothesis to me. But do we have a way of doing that? I mean, I don't exactly have a sixth sense for magic or anything myself.

Lucky for us, I actually do. I've always had an affinity for feeling out energy and magic. And I've learned a few new ways of finding it.

[Mars kneels down and traces a circle in the sand, shutting her eyes in concentration. Don't mind her, Hoshikyo. She's not going to say much for a bit.]

...have I mentioned how cool you are lately? Because I should probably say it more often.

[And Kari's just gonna kneel down with her, keeping quiet so she can concentrate.]

[Mars doesn’t answer, as she’s still lost in concentration. This goes on for several minutes before she reaches down and picks up a handful of sand. With a whisper, she breaks the circle and tosses the sand up into the air, watching it intently. It swirls briefly around the girls and then starts drifting towards the east, and a clearly visible collection of boulders visible a mile off.]

That would be a likely place to start I think.

[magicalesbian]

That way, huh? [She raises her hand up over her eyes to get a better look, before turning back to Rei and holding out a hand to help her up.] Well, then let's get going! Those magic rocks aren't gonna find themselves, after all!

Yeah. [Mars takes the hand and hops up, ready to get a move on. The walk isn't far, and crossing the sand is easy enough in this form. But...can Kari keep up? Since the mun doesn't know how Kari's powers work. And had no idea how Mars walks in those heels beyond magic.]

[magicalesbian]

[Kari's magic basically prevents exhaustion until she de-transforms, so she'll be able to keep yup pretty well. Clearly the answer to everything is just magic.]

You know, all this exploring is making me kinda nostalgic. I used to go out to all kinds of worlds... but I've been grounded in that little village for so long, I almost forgot what it was like.

[faithfulflame]

You know, I've never really traveled as Mars before. The moon, once, but not around the world at all.

[magicalesbian]

What, seriously? You should try it more often! Traveling is so much better when you've got magic in your side, after all.

...but I guess can see the high heels being kind of a deterrent, huh.

[faithfulflame]

Actually it's mostly because the enemy only ever seems to attack Tokyo.

[magicalesbian]

Only Tokyo, huh. You'd think they'd have better luck attacking somewhere that doesn't have it's own team of fighting magical girls to combat their devious plans...

[faithfulflame]

Well, I assume there's a reason. It's likely that they knew Tokyo was where the Ginzuisho was.

[She assumes Kari knows what that is, by now.]

[magicalesbian]

Either that or they're just super dumb. [The most logical conclusion.] But hey, I guess it's probably better for you guys that they're not setting off attacks on the other side of the globe all the time. Even with teleporting, that'd probably be a big pain.

[faithfulflame]

Oh without a doubt. I'd say it's really fortunate, if...you know...the enemy wasn't evil. I have never really figured out the motivation for that kind of thing. Is power really worth all the trouble?

[magicalesbian]

Mmm... it's hard to say without knowing why they want it in the first place. I mean, I've dealt with my fair share of enemies in the past and... usually I can at least understand where they're coming from, even if I don't agree with it. [...] But sometimes they're just nuts.

[faithfulflame]

Right. Yeah. They probably are.

[Or...they're misguided somehow? Rei's never stopped to really think about them, and given their methods...they sort of have to be evil.]

[magicalesbian]

Honestly, I'm never sure what's worse. For them to be too crazy to negotiate with, or to be so sympathetic you almost feel bad making them lose. I've had to deal with both before, and let me tell you, it's no fun.

[faithfulflame]

And just want sort of enemies do you have? I never asked.

[magicalesbian]

Oh, well, there's basically three different types. First, there's the weird bounty-hunter types who come to my world looking to steal my pendant -- and thankfully, there's only been a few of them. [And seeing as they're the ones who actually follow her to her world, they're definitely at the top of the list in terms of being the most dangerous.]

Then there's the people I accidentally manage to piss off when I visit other worlds -- again, only a few, but they've probably been some of the more crazy ones. [Which includes the few she also doesn't like to talk about.]

And then there's the special cases, who started out as enemies, but then stuff happened and now we're friends!

[faithfulflame]

Well, I can't say I have many enemies like that back home. But...um...why would anyone want to steal your pendant? Isn't it dangerous?

[She is not fond of the spirit, Kari. Not at all.]

[magicalesbian]

...to be honest, I still don't know the full details myself. But what I do know is that the power this pendant gives me isn't very common, even in worlds where world-traveling is known to be possible. I mean, the first time I figured out how to use it? It was just by making a wish. It's not like I ever had any experience with magic before. And if you consider all the power I know it has on top of the powers I haven't figured out yet, that makes this thing pretty powerful.

[Immense magical power and the ability to manipulate time and space? Yeah, powerful is actually kind of an understatement.]

Of course, I'm pretty sure most of the people who want to steal it from me don't know about the creepy spirit thing that listens in on your thoughts all day long. Or that fact that the stupid thing can't be removed. Since, to be perfectly honest, if I could just give it away, I probably would.

Would you really?

[That's a genuine question.]

I wouldn't give up being Mars for anything. Even if it is dangerous. But you'd give up being Hoshikyo? All that freedom?

Freedom? Maybe that's how your powers feel, but not mine.

[She brings a hand up to her chest, tapping her fingertips against her pendent.]

The only reason I started traveling to different worlds was to find some way of getting rid of them. I mean, sure it's kinda cool and all -- creepy spirit thing aside. But my magic is practically a beacon for anyone trying to find this thing. And as long as it exists in my world, no one there is safe... probably not even me.
