I've been chillin' out on a star with my 5 star view

There will be a thread for interacting with NPCs, but they may not all go up at once, so keep an eye out for them.

Note: A log for the events in the village will go up on the 21st, in time for the hurricane and droid incursion.

[On the twenty-third, Katara is making rounds in the infirmary. Of course one of the places she makes a point of stopping by is Aang's bed.]

Hey. How are you feeling?

[Aang was laying in the bed with an uncomfortable silence. He heard Katara's voice, a relaxing voice, but one that also tinted him with fear when he remembered visions of his dream.

He slowly looked towards her, but he couldn't find any words.]

Catowl got your tongue?

[Come on, Aang, don't do this. You're scaring her.]

[He put some effort into a slight smile.]

Y-yeah. It's... like that. Katara... [The killing. The Dream Shifter. The Avatar State.] I- I... I feel real lousy.

[She takes a seat on his bed.]

Are you in any pain?

[She's not sure he's ever been in the Avatar State for that long. Now that he voices this, she's concerned about what kind of havoc it could wreck on his chi, channeling all that power for that long.]

I guess my body feels really like... it's been worn out. [His sleep problems didn't help any.] Like I've been drained. [Aang hesitates, not yet ready to unleash the emotional pain.] And some... aches. [He didn't focus enough to realize that these aches were around his chakra points.]

[She frowns slightly.]

Why don't you lay back down and I'll take a look?

O-okay.

[He slides himself back into a laying position.]

Is everyone else... doing okay?

[She streams water out of her high-tech waterskin and kind of wishes they'd let her take this back, coats her hands with it, and places her hands on Aang's chest.]

They're all in one piece. I'm sure they'll be by to visit you later, if they haven't been already.

That's great. [He smiles lightly at the watery touch. It's pretty reassuring to him, since he can't - or doesn't want to - remember whether or not they had encountered him when he was like... that. But there's still one person he clearly remembers meeting with. He nervously focuses his eyes on Katara.]

And how... how are you doing?

[As she'd suspected, Aang's chi pathways were strained from channeling all that energy for so long. There were distinct spots along his spine which were swollen and knotted. It would work itself out in time, but she could ease that on her own with healing.]

It's... always very difficult, but--

[she bites her lip]

I found a friend of mine after I dropped you off here yesterday. ...I found her body, I mean.

[He begins to feel mild bits of comfort from her healing, but he instead gets a strong sinking feeling from her news.]

No...

[A tear escapes.

It's going to be so hard telling Shikamaru. Why had Temari insisted on fighting by herself? She should have tried harder.

Meanwhile, she keeps on healing.]

[He saw the tear. And he didn't know what to do. If only the Avatar State had focused on saving people instead of punishing...]

I'm sorry, Katara.

I know.

[She was sorry too. Everyone was always sorry.]

I'm sorry too.

[He look up at her, but he couldn't get himself to look at her eyes.]

You don't understand. I... I lost control. If I didn't- if I... if I could have controlled the Avatar State, I could have done so much good. I could have saved people. Instead of... what I did.

[Katara looked up at him.]

Is that what's bothering you?

It's... it's part of it. It was worse than ever this time. I tried to... take so many lives. And I... [He looks away] I even attacked you. That's not what the Avatar should do.

Aang, if you had really attacked me, then I would have been a lot more than a little bruised.

[She moves her hands to a different point along his chest.]

And I know you're upset about the lives you take in the Avatar State, but at least this time you can hold on to the fact that they're not gone for good. Everyone who dies here will be back in a week.

It still never happened before. It shouldn't have happened, Katara. I don't want to scare you or hurt you. And even if... if they do come back, I... I still took lives when I didn't need to.

[At that, Katara stopped and streamed her water back into her waterskin.

She took Aang's hand.]

You didn't scare me. You're never going to scare me, Aang, not in the way you mean. I worry about you when you go into the Avatar State, you know that. And I hate seeing you in that much rage and pain, so disconnected from who you really are. I worry that... that maybe you won't come back, or what will happen while you're like that. But I never worry that you'll hurt me.

[I know that you would never hurt me. Not on purpose.]

[He grips her hand, but he feels hesitant and guilty about it.]

I still worry. It... I think it could have gotten worse. This place makes it so hard, because everything's a trick or an illusion, and I think it thought that you might have been an enemy in disguise.

[He hesitates before continuing on.]

Because... that's what happened earlier. What... put me into the Avatar State to begin with.

What do you mean, Aang? What happened?

[He releases his hand and looks at the ceiling.]

Well, I... when I got separated from all of you, I got... trapped by some kind of Shifter without knowing it. And it made me think I was in... some kind of fantastical world where everything was peaceful and perfect. All the good people I ever knew were alive at the same time and happy. Including you, and, and your family.

[She had heard about those. Her brow furrows and she pauses a moment as she thinks through what something like that might have meant to him - the merging of times and experiences; the life of his people...

She makes no move to reclaim his hand. She doesn't feel worthy of it.]

That must have been very difficult for you.
